This is a great video. I grew up as a child in the 60's and 70's , graduated from high school in the 70's and ate all of these snacks or sugary cereals like captain crunch or froot loops or whatever. There was no epidemic of childhood obesity back then but i thought it was because kids were so much more active. In the 60's and 70's kids would go out and play after breakfast or lunch and be out all day and would return till dinner time. There was no electronics to tie us down so we were always running around and we seemed to have boundless energy. We were always running around , riding bikes, at the playground or the park. I played sports and literally had no fat, I was skinny the whole time and so were other kids I knew yet we ate all those products. This video makes sense. Thank you 😊

But even worse our foods are contolled by a hand full of corporations and its getting worse all the time. You could watch tv… but we only started having options beyond scheduled tv (ie. 3-5 networks with their channel programs, and no replays or repeats. If you want the new episode of Little House on the Prairie or Charlie’s Angels, you had to tune in the scheduled day and time.) We played in the neighborhoods. We did sports, learned instruments. Rode bikes. Skated (later, bladed). We just were not glued to screens. And the summer I spent in Tonga, I ate well but lost 8 pounds in 2 months. No chemicals in the foods.

What got me was once I stopped by a local coffee shop, it is a famous chain in Canada. Not hard to figure out, I bought a muffin and coffee took went for a hike. Not eating the muffin I put it in the console of a black vehicle this was in march and forgot all about it. I was looking for something in the car around September/ October I came across this bag and remembered want it was. Thinking I had a science experiment being a guy I looked in and found it was the same as the day I bought it wasn’t even hard it felt like it just came out of the oven. I have never been back to that chain or pretty much all fast food places, I only buy baked goods if I don’t make them myself is buy from a mom and pop shops.

Also what gets me as in Canada I can only talk about, but they talked about paper was such a bad thing paper bags for groceries, lunches, garbage bags. So move to plastic so we save trees, not to mention the bags were made from pine/ spruce/ and end cuts that were not good for anything but for making the pulp. Now plastic is a bad thing, now we are back to making paper bags that are a lot cheaper made, and everything is fine. This is why I sit with a lot of younger people and talk with them having them understand to question everything, if you don’t understand get them to make you understand. Don’t be shy and ask the questions.

Sorry, but you should get your facts straight on ORIGINAL Grape-Nuts. They STILL contain only 4 ingredients - Whole grain wheat flour, malted barley flour, salt and dried yeast. No added sugars. Post makes Grape-Nut Flakes, and that product DOES contain added sugar. Original Grape-Nuts is one of the few cold cereals I still buy. Some types of Shredded Wheat without BHT,Uncle Sam Cereal (now hard to find) and regular Oatmeal are are other 3 I know that have been around for over a hundred years, and still worth buying. I grew up on Corn Flakes in the 60’s , but wouldn’t give a plug nickel for them now!

Support with your wallets. Avoid processed foods with high fructose corn syrup, any ingredients that you can't pronounce, and bioengineered ingredients. Stop buying processed foods and companies will get the memo. Hurt big companies wallets and they will shift back to natural ingredients.

I would not be surprised if these ceos make sure their families stock the healthier versions

The more I learn, the more I realize that there's no such thing as an unhealthy food….. just unhealthy ingredients and ways of preparing it Burgers, pizzas, ice cream, cookies, pasta...all of these can actually be nutritious, healthy and easy to digest with the right ingredients...

So it's not my imagination that things don't taste as good today as they did back then. Or it could be that my taste buds are just getting old.

The versions of these things now taste nothing like they once did. Not even tempted to eat these industrial chemical disease-bombs. Had a graham cracker lately? 🤢

Some of the ads shown are actually from the 80s...though the product is 70s or earlier.

It's an informative video, but what's left out is that the more wholesome past-time snacks were, just like today, packaged in plastic which can leach into the product.

Don’t eat anything packaged or processed! We were meant to eat meats, eggs, & vegetables and fruits in season, and drink water! No chemicals, very little sugar, and carbs. And as for the more natural packaged foods… well they might have been better but they were still processed foods and were not “healthy”!
