@@wesleytwiggs7687 "Solid. Here’s to sub 2:50!" - Two things about that. Yes, he should be a shoe-in for a sub 2:50 considering the Buffalo Marathon is literally flat for the fist 13-14 miles. However, the caveat to this are the hills that come after that. Ever noticed that the bulk of Nick's training is done on flat courses? Not hard to run at goal race pace when training on flat courses. If he doesn't run a sub 2:50, let's just hope he doesn't come up with the same excuse as he did after the 2020 Austin Marathon, as he said afterwards "this is a hilly course". Yep, which he knew well in advance and which he should have trained for well in advance (and by the way, 2020 wasn't the first time he ran the Austin Marathon either).

Nick you are such a motivation to me. Im struggling when it comes to training last 2 months. I kind of hit plateau and I am not going anywhere but vids like these keep me going. I dont know what is problem with me. Its probably my diet. 2 week ago I got myself plan from Next Level Diet. From what I saw its promising and I think it will help me continue with gaining muscle.

Try Sage Canaday. Not only is he a world-class athlete who's achieved REAL results (not a fabricated Kipchoge-style 'marathon distance' with assistance from his friends, on a completely flat course with a man shouting at him from a golf cart), but he's an excellent coach who provides practical advice for all running abilities. And if you want some true inspiration, look up Mark Lewis. Previously 300 pounds, 6'6", but took up running and now down to 200 pounds, but at the age of 50yo, can still run a sub-20 5km, does ultras and triathlons, and I recon he could give Nick Bare a run for his money. I can't tell you the motivation you've provided me. I spent 14 yrs in the army which I think created my distaste for running. Since I've been out ive gained weight (6'6" 335), stopped working out and ate like trash. 5 months ago I stumbled upon one of your videos. The next day I went on a run, then another and another. Im up to 4 miles a day 4-5 days a week, lifting 5 days a week and have completely changed my diet and im down 55lbs....thank you for that

This was incredible! I also crushed my last long fast run yesterday which puts me 3 weeks out for my half marathon. I’ve been following the prep and applying the teachings and yesterday truly shocked me with the results. I also had one of the best workouts ever. Thank you to the whole BPN team for helping the community thrive.

He's just a body builder trying his hand at running Plenty of actual REAL runners and coaches on the internet. Sage Canaday is a good example. @@thepsychologist8159 Nick bare is a good runner, because he is coached by some great people. So it is a ‘plausible’ source of information. But a long taper is difficult to do because most people will do everything to easy. In a taper there should still be some intensity

I know runners who don't even have a coach who can run a faster marathon than Nick Bare and the irony of that is, they wouldn't dare call themselves a good runner. "great people" - Jeff Cunningham is great? Hmm, personally I think Sage Canaday is better. Not only was he a better runner than Jeff but he provides more practical running advice. I'd sooner seek him out as a coach. Man I love watching these. I was on pace to run my 1st marathon this year at age 44, but seriously injured my right heel last November after 11 months of gradual training and working my way up. Having surgery soon after 5 months of trying rest and PT with no success. These videos have helped me hold on to this goal and work on other parts of my fitness.

Nick, it might be interesting for you to talk about how you handle heat and humidity during training. I live in San Antonio and I did a 14 miler on the same day you did this 20 miler and the weather was amazing. So the run felt effortless. This past Saturday was totally different. The humidity was close to 90% and my run was a bit of a struggle. I couldn't imagine trying to hit fast splits under those conditions. I had to slow way down just to keep the heart rate low. I'd be interested in how you execute in the heat and humidity.

A fellow San Antonian! Hello! I started training for my first marathon last year, in JULY. And I'm starting this year in May, running through the summer until October. I think I've read everything there is to read about training in the heat, & most of it says train early in the morning. Unfortunately for me, that isn't an option bc of my work schedule. So I run in the hottest part of the day, between 2-5. Moral of the story: it sucks, stay hydrated. Truthfully I don't think anything can make it suck less, just takes some adapting to.

@@chiknlittle I hear you. I personally prefer the heat to the humidity. I run early in the morning most days (work schedule) but that's usually when the humidity is 90% or higher. I'm not training for anything specific at the moment but I love to run. I realize that it's just going to suck. I was just wondering if Nick had any hacks or something that could make it suck a little less.

About a month ago we had an usually nice day up here in Canada and my plan was to run my marathon pace for 30K (20 miles) and everything was going so great, I was in the zone 100% and then at about 8K things went off the rails and for the first time in my life I tweaked something in my hamstring. When I debriefed the situation in my mind I realized my wife needed me to do something before my run and I was so jacked to get out (been looking at the weather and planning it for days) I rushed through my pre race routine (stretching and warming up) and sure enough.... I was so frustrated that I was that stupid. Your advice about treating it like race day is spot on. I have been running for 20 years and I made that rookie mistake. Luckily I recognized it right away and stopped and had my wife come and pick me up and stayed off it for a few days but come on man.....how could I be so stupid. 100% bro - this is the key!! Those long hard workouts must be 100% race day prepped! Well done.

Twice a week i will do 10 mile runs. Taking every other day off from running. Strength training 6 days a week. As well as mixing it up for cycling, incline treadmill walking..... The 10 mile runs for me its all about getting your brain in check. You can be great but if your mind is not in the game then its over before it begins!

Nick, it's really awesome to see you out there running like hell and honoring the sport. You're a great runner. Miles 18-19 are inspiring. You might surprise yourself with your final time at Buffalo. It might be faster than you think. You're definitely more durable because of your resistance training. I'm not aware of a big guy breaking 2:50 in the marathon. If we adjusted everything, a 2:49 for you is like a sub 2:20 marathon for a lighter weight guy. It would be interesting if you could develop training methods for the skinny guys who want to run sub 2:20's. Would you call Kipchoge or Bekele fragile? Maybe they are but they are also speed demons. But they can definitely benefit from being strong.

Strength endurance flexibility is optimal. At 25 I could bench 350 and ran a three hour and six minute marathon. Weight was 175 and height was 5 8

Hey Nick, when talking about paces can you just add a simple conversion from min/miles to min/km overlay in the video? I know such convertors exist online but this would make it much easier to relate when people like me(in Europe) just see it on screen rather having to pause go convert and resume the video.

Awesome training. Hopefully I can work my way up to a marathon. Today I tried the G 1 M Sport before my hockey game. I ended up with a crazy calf cramp. Never had that before while playing. Any helpful information on what I should add to avoid the cramp again?

Most of it is easy runs, it takes years to build durability, not months YEARS, I definitively underestimated it and got severe injuries
