20 Minute Pick Up - Kitchen

Happy New Year! I'm back home and back to organizing. I thought it might be fun to try a 20 minute pick up. My target this time? The kitchen! There are several areas of my house in which piles of stuff tend to accumulate, and the kitchen is definitely one of them. Having the timer on helped me really focus and not get stuck on decisions that are really quite simple to make. I hope you enjoy!

Jen, I love watching your organizational videos. I am not the neatest person myself, but I hate clutter, and you are right, mess makes you feel gross and stresses me out. This video inspired me to spring clean my toddlers playroom. It didn't take 20 mins :-( but it is now clean, and broken toys have been thrown out, surfaces sanitized, and now looks perfect.

you are so right when saying that if the house is messy so are you inside.i feel just like that when something is out of the place.i like things to be organized, where they belong. often when i'm not feeling good i find something to do around the house and after i am much better

I like your ideas like using baskets for stuff you need to move to another room. I don't really need to see 20 minutes of another room though- I like your tips rather than seeing you do things. I like watching both videos and tips please don't change anything. I find both is what inspires me. I've cleaned most of my closet, under my kitchen sink, under my bathroom sink, my husbands bathroom sink, well on my way to starting a craft room. I got a label maker and the pack it cubes all because of watching your videos. I've got a list of things still to do, but I just wanted to show some of the things I've done because of your videos. Please don't change anything, it really helps me a lot.

Great video! Love the basket idea. I have two kids and I can have one basket for each child and then make one trip at the end of the day and put the things away quickly. 20 minutes is a perfect amount of time. You have to get in and get out! Thanks Jen.

Jen, I'm so with you on the winter weather bla's, My father also got more depressed in the winer as well, and there is a term for this, but i'm having a brain fart and can't recall what its proper name is, I too LOVE snow, it makes the world bright white and just make's it feel FRESH and CLEAN to me, Just know your not alone with the winter time blue's!

That's very true.When the house is disorganizing so does yourself.I'm guilty on this one.I love to organized but every time I'm in a hurry I tend to clutter and put anything any where.When I planned to organize and took sometime to do it,I feel tired just by thinking that I have lots of things to do that need to be done.Thanks for the motivation.Hope I can unclutter my house and my mind.thanks:)

Someone gave me that book when my son passed away. I never read it. I couldn't agree more with the author. I can't begin to imagine life not organized, including my house. I think I will start reading that book. Love your videos.

Omg!! I wish my kitchen would look like that! So organized. I have 3 kids (under 5 years old) and is so hard to keep it organized. That really stress me out. But you really motivate me to start organizing and labelling everything so that way i can keep my house organized.

Fantastic! Inspiring! I think that the next project for you would be to share some of your cooking excellence with maybe a food bank or children's charity. You don't have to interact at all with people. Just cook and drop off. You would feel happy because you helped others, just like royal women do, and they would benefit from gourmet goodies! Nothing chases away those blues like a greater purpose.

@OohToBeFree It's on my to-do list for February. The pantry's been a tough for me and the solution I have right now is still not great,but it's the best I can do with the space I have. Stay tuned.

Would love to see what's in your hello kitty make up bag. :) My purple lululemon backpack (just like your carry on) finally made it to my friends place in Buffalo along with all my Container Store goodies. But the weather has been exceptionally bad or I would go get it. I can't wait to see it all, especially that bag. It's been in post office limbo since Jan 3 but now its safe and sound and only 2hrs (and 1 country) away. :-)

I find that when I do a 15-20 minute pickup daily (could be in various rooms) I am always challenging myself to get done before the clock and it makes me more likely to just put things away where they go the first time around so I can beat the clock later lol This only works if I'm doing these pickups daily though. I also find my husband likes to join in and pickup with me. I always appreciate the help! :)

I usually suffer from SAD. This year I am loading up on my Vitamin D3 intake (5,000 IU per day) and I have not suffered at all so far. Vitamin D3 is extremely important for proper brain function and mood. I highly recommend it. It has saved me from my yearly nightmare.

@southerncouponista Thanks! It was motivating for me, too. I've been doing 20 minute pick ups all over my house, testing it out. It's great to just focus but not spend a huge amount of time. As for the holiday stuff, I just can't help myself. I love decorating :)

The baskets are made by Reisenthel, I got one from Amazon. They are superb :) Check out Jen's video called Maximizing Space: Portable Mini Office, she uses one there too in their holiday home.

@lunacandleco I get where you are coming from, but I don't think that that was Jen's intention for this video. She prefers to have her house as tidy and as organized as possible (I'm assuming based on the content that she posts) because it makes her feel good and she has the time to do so. If you do not, then don't worry about it and just do what you can, because at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter what your house looks like as long as you are content with it :)
