Man, those higher notes are amazing, especially in Inno e Marcia Pontificale. The history of the church is unique and the songs are always amazing. Lots of church music has eerie vibes or just sounds amazing. It sounds better than the music used in my Ukrainian Catholic Church (yes, I am Polish and Ukrainian).

The guard uniforms are only ceremonial. They are usually dressed as VIP protection special forces.

I will never be unimpressed at how much style the papacy has. It has its fair share of problems but I admire it to an extent.

The questionable part is that the Church has never embraced formal inclusion of laymen in any form of oversight of Church affairs. The theory is that priests and monks are sworn to serve the people and be holy and subservant to the local communities they serve.

In the classical sense, no. Today most people are used to a "nation" being a liberal ethno-state originating in early 19th century nationalism. Classically a nation refered to a common people that may or may not live under the same government, ie; the Germans. Various independent political entitles (usually eccesiastical) such as Terra Mariana and the Papal State were not really considered "nations" in their own right.
