Save the beautiful Anacropora! The yellow Anacropora is one of the few corals I really want to add to my tank! Space is always a problem in nano-reefing, especially with the torches, they need a lot of space. My real estate is almost gone as well, had to save my green slimer today because the hammer is growing too large and was stinging the slimer. Ah well, at least everything is growing, right? ;) Beautiful tank you have!

Great update hope you do more and more often, i am shutting down my 190L planted high tech planted tank and starting a nano reef, looking at water box cube 10 as not much room just hope big enough for few nice corals and clownfish. Difference from freshwater to reef would be great

Never regretted a single day setting up a nano saltwater reef. The colour and the interactions between the livestock is just incredible. You can have some amazing corals in the Waterbox nano. Check out Bearded Reef nano Waterbox 🙌. Need to make more regular content, just struggle with time, but no excuse. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Hi Dean - also WWC had an awesome competition with their staff mostly with Waterbox 10Gs. This will give you a better idea about the corals etc you can have. Another option (and what I would do) is just a glass tank (I would go custom) and the Tunze 9004 Skimmer (that surface skims) - then I'd have a shallow water level (like 25cm) on a 35cm tank so fish can't jump out. I think the biggest factor in the size of the tank though is probably the light you prefer. Like an XR15 I think should be over at least a 45x45cm tank (bigger with the spread on the new Gen 6's). Anyhow so my advice is to start with your preferred light.

I’ve never measured out citric acid I didn’t think I needed too! I just dump a load in a bucket and add RO…works so well though. Great to see you’ve made it though the heatwave,I was at my local LFS today and he was saying a lot people have suffered bad

Now then mate. Hope all is good? Some reefers in the livestream said it was 25g to 50g per litre. So I went in at the lower end of the middle. That stuff works a treat at cleaning the pumps and reef safe as well. The heatwave was as a close one. Temp peaked at 28.2....thankfully no losses. Tended to the tank every hour for 2 days. How's your tank? Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. 🙂

@@jaysrealreefuk all good thanks mate,survived the heat with no losses,my temp peaked 27.4 but needed to be putting frozen bottles in the sump every 30 mins… good job I had load’s frozen,generally my tank is doing great apart from a couple of corals not as bright as when I got them so can never get the perfect Instagram photo 🤣 would love to know where to get the Fuji mangrove mud from! Really want to try that

citric acid is vitamin C - some people dose it - no need to rinse (and its a little carbon dose)

I suppose now I think about it, yeah it's good grade vitamin C, which is harmless. I only rinsed as I didn't want it to lower my pH. I like the pH as near to 8.5 as possible. Great to see you mate and thank you for commenting. Hope all is well with your reef?

@@jaysrealreefuk Thanks - yeah my reef is REALLY good at the moment besides an elegance and a goni that I've had for over a year. I will have to post on Insta which I haven't done much of at all lately. I'm dosing Kalk just the 12hours overnight really and got rid of my KHD and finally it's pretty smooth sailing. Also now I added a hybrid powder blue x goldrim my lazy purple tang has started grazing. Who would have thought adding a tang would eliminate issues 😝

Reefers are loving the Kalk train, seems to bring many benefits. Purple tang is such a stunning fish, would love the volume of water for one. I will check it on Instagram mate 🙂

@@jaysrealreefuk For sure - I always used Kalk but 24/7 thinking it was good because I only run my skimmer overnight so maybe part of it is that change and that I am dosing more. But mostly I think it's that I don't have the KHD (which for me was very inaccurate and I stupidly reacted) plus the stability of a 2 year old tank 😎

Hi I wondered if you might be able to help me, I understand you have the G5, but I have the G6 Pro and have really struggled getting the light right. I was using the AB+ but my corals really didn't like it even at only 20% intensity, my torch hammer and frogspawn was not doing well. My tank is 80cm length 40cm wide and 47cm height. I use the RMS mount. Can you recommend a schedule, Photoperiod and intensity I could use? Thanks for any info.

I run the gen 5 blue at 8inch above the tank on the LPS template at max intensity of 45%. That's for a 45cm cube. SPS are only growing slowly on the top of the scape. LPS are happy. Hope that helps mate. 👍

Hi Jay. I'm at a point where you were not long ago. My 10yr old son really wants a Reef tank. If you had your time again, would you buy a Nano tank again or would you recommend to save a bit more and buy something like a Reefer 200 G2 and slowly upgrade? Appreciate your advice, your my favourite KZbinr :-)

If I was starting again with my little lad I would go for the Red Sea Max Nano Penisula (100 litre and premium build), it's an amazing all in one and super simple to run. It would also last you about 3 yrs till your coral start to outgrow the tank. Then you could sell the coral frags and keep the max nano or upgrade. With what you can keep (species of fish) in a 200 it wouldn't be much different to the Red Sea Max Nano Penisula. Corals will grow in any size reef, it more dependent on light settings and water quality for the corals, rather than the size of the tank. Larger systems are needed for tangs and butterfly fish and you would need a 350litre and above really. You are then looking at £5k setup costs unless you go second hand. If you are around drop on and watch out Friday night livestream 8pm tonight on Fishpalace KZbin channel. You could ask the whole panel and see what they think. Would be great to see you. I always keep meaning ask you’ve ever cleaned your skimmer and return pump, this answered my question. Did my wave maker last weekend, think I need to do my pumps next weekend. How easy was it to get skimmer out without spilling stuff everywhere?

It's a bit of a pain to get the skimmer out, but I just took my time, by lifting it slowly and letting it drain. Just need to make sure the ATO as mine started pumping RO water in as the water level changed 😬. The main reason for doing it was that my return pump, wouldn't always restart after a water change and Red Sea asked if I'd cleaned it? 😂 Hopefully, it will last another year now. If anything after service there is now too much flow, even on the lowest settings 😂. I think its something I plan to do every 6 to 9 months in the maintenance plan. I started my tank similar time to yours and only recently added couple of anenomies (purple tip) both have split and moved to a place they like away from the flow of the power head.
