When you look at the legacy and newer car manufacturers their prices have creeped upwards by $5k to $15k. Some to tight supply/demand. Some to supply chain challenges. Some to recoup start-up costs. A little to dealership greed. Inexpensive, practical or functional vehicles are not profitable to NA legacy manufacturers.

Over here in England, we have the Jeep Avenger electric vehicle. Gorgeous, but not what I think of as a Jeep!! It’s a small Sport Utility Vehicle rather than an off-road vehicle like the Jeep models of yesteryear!!
