Exploring the daily life of a Baby Boomer in the 1950s reveals a nostalgic tapestry woven with simplicity and traditional values. 🕰️👶 What do you think made this era so unique in terms of daily routines and experiences?

I grew up in the 1960's and 1970's . I miss those times. I grew up in the LA area and the only five and dime there was was a stop and go. And where I live now there was a Woolworths, I miss it. I do miss when I grew up and played with my friends, ah, the memories. This video makes me happy, I will be 62 this year. And I remember quite a bit.

I miss the older times. Morals are almost nonexistent. This was more of an innocent era. We're things perfect? No. But the times were a bit better. People still had common courtesy, regard for others, and a slower pace was a thing.

Back in the 60's, my parents took us skiing at a place called Jug End Barn in the Northeast of the US. I noticed something in the air right away. I was about 14, so I had very little on my mind to distract me. I noticed how polite and friendly everyone was. Back on the road going up there, you had maniacs and imbeciles speeding along and getting caught by radar all over the place. When we got to JEB, it all changed. People became gracious. Even our parents became civilized. I think we have to work to get that back. Do we need another world war to teach us manners? I don't think so. Manners are contagious. I noticed it in my area of Long Island. Act, don't react. We can bring it back.

Courtesy and regard for others only applied if you were white, Christian, and male. Jim Crow was alive and well. Women were unable to have their own bank accounts. Gay and lesbian people could be convicted of a felony simply by existing. Somehow not exactly a desirable set of circumstances.

Until we bought our own set, I used to go across the street to borrow my neighbor's encyclopedias.

This all applies to growing up in the 70's too. Even the sock hops we would even dress in 50's gear, the parents would come, often in the community center. We were told DON'T come home until the street lights come on! We knew which kid's Mom would have snacks or drinks, the ice cream man would come and we'd beg for a quarter.

Oh yes, we lived in a large neighborhood and had free run. We knew which yards we could go into to get a drink from the garden hose on a hot day. Sometimes we’d even get a popsicle if we were lucky.

What a great time to grow up. Back then, the ONLY teen that may have told their parent to "FO" was JAMES DEAN ! Today, it's common to hear teens say that to their parents. Families were always the focal point. We did everything as a family, from going to a movie, getting a pizza, or even going to the mall. Sure miss those days.

My grandmother, mother, and me all worked at some point in Woolworth’s, 1930’s-1980’s! My grandmother and mother went on to work for public utilities. I stayed in retail becoming an assistant manager before getting my degree for teaching.

I remember the “Sears” book. The old books were used for toilet paper in the outhouses for a while. Dinner together was so good for communication & many things. I tried with my kids, when they were younger it was fine, but as they got a little older(middle school); they protested. Games outside; Red Rover Red Rover, Olley Olley Oxen Free, Hide & Seek, Tag, & Simon Says. The Dime Store was like a Nemus Marcus to a poor kid. Woolworth’s shakes were to die for thick & so good. A Science Set was a little scary for me, but one of my brothers loved it. My favorite cold cereal was Sugar Pops. I still occasionally hand write letters, but completely throw people off (confused them). I remember seeking a trunk load of people into the drive-in. What fun!!😂 I believe there is still a drive-in at the town of Galva, 24:23 Illinois. Arrowheads were what collected as kids. Oh yes, we also collected horseshoes, too. We had bowling in PE in high school.

My dad worked at Montgomery Ward and then Sears as a Electronic Repair. My mom worked at JC Penny's in the shoes dept. We used to get some really good discounts. Almost all of our school clothes came for there.

Loved the Sear's catalog. I remember when there were fabric swatches included in the clothing section. That was in the early 1960's.

Narrator (Real or AI--or whatever, 'cause ya never know these-here days!): (Anyway,) dude, STOP using the term "iconic!" It wasn't even 4 minutes into the video when this term ("iconic") was already used twice ! (Are you kidding me?!) It's a worn-out cliche that I am sick of hearing used as a descriptor, especially because of its "presence" in most videos on KZbin channels. When the narration includes "iconic" (and/or "icon"), it makes me think about the narrator, or the writer of the narration, lacking an imagination when it comes to including fresh and interesting descriptors; and it leaves this viewer with the impression that there is a limited number of adjectives in "your" language repertoire!

@@VintageTVShows (I admire your tact. 😊) This was an enjoyable presentation. As a Boomer, I can confirm that yeah, it wasn’t Mayberry every day, and there certainly were problems and issues….but standards of propriety made for a more pleasant (and much less cynical) society than we see now. Also you could hitch a car ride without it ending up on an episode of ‘Dateline’. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
