Most people are taught basic manners in their childhood. Our parents teach us to give up our seat for an older person, not to make too much noise, and to respect other people's space. But some people grow up and seem to completely forget the rules of behavior on public transport.
Unfortunately, many people consider respect for the rules of etiquette as something shameful, considering it a feature of classy aesthetes who are removed from real life. Good manners are as different as the people who show them. Nevertheless, there are some etiquette rules that should be followed no matter what nationality you are. Everyone should want to be a polite person after all! Here are 20 things you shouldn't forget when you're on public transport.
TIMESTAMPS:
Don’t hold up the line 0:56
Prepare the things you need for your trip in advance 1:52
Don't forget that other passengers want a place for their hand luggage too 2:15
Offer help to your travel companions 2:47
Take off your backpack or bulky purse when you enter public transport 3:13
Don't comb your hair or apply makeup in a public place 3:34
Ask people if they need assistance before you help them 3:58
Be attentive to people with kids 4:20
Teach your kids the rules of travel etiquette 4:39
Be ready to offer your seat 5:05
Don't take food with a strong smell on a trip 5:28
Don't make loud sounds that might irritate others 6:03
Be careful when reclining your seat 6:33
Keep your umbrella closed 7:08
Avoid displays of affection on public transport 7:36
Don't rush when you leave a vehicle 7:51
Remember the golden rule of the escalator 8:19
Don't try to occupy another person’s space 8:39
Keep newspapers folded 9:06
Don't stare at people 9:22

SUMMARY:
- If you know that a long bus or train journey is ahead of you, prepare everything you need beforehand.
- If you have several bags, place them on the luggage shelf vertically so they occupy less space.
- If you have a large backpack or a filled-to-the-brim purse, take it off your shoulder, and hold it in front of you.
- It's not acceptable to put on makeup or comb and tie up your hair in a public place.
- If you want to help a stranger (especially someone with limited physical capabilities) to enter a vehicle, remember to ask if they need your assistance.
- If your children learn the rules of behaving on public transport before a trip, you'll save your nerves and the nerves of the people around you.
- This doesn't mean that you should give up a comfortable seat you booked in advance for a person who didn't prioritize their comfort and bought a ticket at the last minute.
- Some people are extremely sensitive to smells, and you can imagine what will happen if you unwrap an odorous snack in an enclosed bus or train.
- In the rainy season, public transport becomes even more cramped: in addition to bags, each passenger has to take an umbrella with them.
- Consider the feelings of others and the example you're setting to children who are onboard, and don't forget about common decency.
- Help those who need assistance, for example, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
- No matter how fascinating your neighbor's book, newspaper, face, or clothes are, don't stare at them. It’s rude, and it can make the person you've chosen for your intent examination extremely uncomfortable.

To me it is the almost universal use of the smart phones. People who WANT to be isolated even when in a crowd. I came from a world where people spoke to each other, learned from each other, helped each other as a community. The community is dead and it has become a series of isolated islands.

agree. I ride a commuter train and on instances when it's overcrowded due to a delay, the conductor announces please move out of the way for others to get off at their station, they then can get back on.

Yes, first let people leave and then you can enter, that's rule here in Czechia and tourists have hard times with that, they think we are rude when someone push them back because he wants to leave. We are not rude, they are actually rude. Mostly Asians are doing that, they are just rushing inside at the station. :-D Also when it's full, you have to go out in station and then return like Davin said.

Wow, thanks for the valuable video brightside team. One small edition, we have to be careful about going to sleep in a bus when it is travelling in hilly area roads, many a times I have experience this, when a bus is traveling at a long distance and enters hilly areas, we have to be careful whether we are awake or asleep, if we are asleep we have to be careful to avoid falling on the fellow passengers beside us, many a times when I am travelling, I have seen people going to sleep and when the bus takes a sharp turn resting their heads and their weight on us sitting beside them so sleep no problem but be careful not to lean on others this is just a suggestion that I wanted to give to all our fellow passengers thank you

Here in Czechia you have to let old and pregnant people sit and you have to go out first in station and then you can enter metro/bus/tram. You can't just go inside before people got out first. When I started traveling, I was schocked this rules are not common everywhere, it works mostly only in slavic countries and not even in all. We also doing that with escalators, I thought it's unique here, but I saw that even in Portugal, but it's not like law in other countries, here in Czechia all people are really doing that. They have to change direction of escalators time by time because of that to prevent damaging only one side. :-D We also let small kids sit because it's better then let them running around and falling to ground every 5 seconds. :-D

Another really annoying things that people do is record everything that’s going on in the pass just because one person acts crazy. It’s public domain but people still need to be notified that they are on KZbin or Facebook or whatever
@christopherfletcher831
@christopherfletcher831 5 жыл бұрын
Ever been on a long haul flight? The person in front WILL recline their seat! If you can not recline yours, but the person in front reclines theirs then you will have virtually no space. If you recline, the person behind can recline too meaning everyone is comfortable. Try a long haul flight before scolding others for a perfectly acceptable practice! I can do whatever I want with my seat, and so can the person in front if me. One exception, it's polite to be upright at mealtimes so the person behind can eat comfortably.

I just don't get the 'escalator' rule; I try to stand on the side the person in front of me stands on but it's almost always random (when I'm in the UK - so far, it hasn't happened during visits to other countries where I used an escalator) and people end up just standing wherever so sometimes I end up thinking people should stand in a zig zag like pattern (so you might not interrupt those in front and behind you???) In conclusion, there's not a lot of instances where I see everyone standing on one side....

Look, the price is a function of the number of people that can be fitted. I can remember when only politicians and movie stars could afford to fly. 30 hours of discomfort isn't nice but hey, I can afford to fly around the world to visit my son. So I am more than happy to be crowded. I could pay five times as much for business class and be more comfortable but it isn't worth that much to me.

'So tired of this nanny state B.S. (not this video, but the general attitude of westerners), making children out of adults who should know better in the first place but feel obliged to ask the state - like a child asking their nanny - what the civilized course of action is. People who are so clueless deserve the ever-increasing regulation and surveillance of the N.W.O., but unfortunately they drag the rest of us along with them.

This is related to the smell thing. Personal Hygiene before you use the transport. People shouldn't have to smell just sweat from you and they will. 8:27 Stop spreading false information. In the UK they also stand on the right and walk on the left. Also, I hope you know that when you said "Stand on the right", you pointed an arrow at a person standing on the left.
