Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference: 0:00 - Introduction 1. 0:36 {Should Repetitive Bible Passages Concern Us?} I'm very confused about why Psalms 14 & 53 are almost identical. Is this an error in Scripture? Are any other pairs of psalms also duplicate? This is causing me to worry about the reliability of Scripture. Please help me understand this! 2. 11:07 {How to Connect Deeply with God} I struggle deeply with feeling the presence of a relationship with God. I believe I am saved, but I had wandered far and often during my youth. To this day, I try to "imagine" my relationship with God, but I still feel estranged (mostly I think because of sinfulness). I am desperate for that deep, living connection to the Father. What can I do to get connected in relationship with Him? 3. 15:34 {More Miracles than Jesus?} Often, John 14:12-14 is used by “word of faith” preachers that I used to listen to. Their claim is that we are to do the same and more of the miracles that Jesus did. How should I see these verses? 4. 22:28 {Is Common Sense an Argument for God?} Some weeks ago you said you believed common sense is the best argument for God. Can you elaborate? 5. 26:27 {About Jupiter in the Bible} In Acts 19:35 where it says “the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter,” is this referring to the planet Jupiter, and did they know of other planets in that period of time? 6. 29:15 {Are the Son & Spirit Extensions of the Father?} What would you say to people who say that Jesus and the Holy Spirit are mere extensions of the one God, the Father? 7. 33:29 {What is a Biblical Perspective on Anointing for Today?} Can you explain “anointing” in the Bible and what the NT application is for believers? I've heard phrases like "That song/speaker is anointed" or "the anointing is in the room." Is this correct? 8. 38:00 {About Elijah & Enoch} About John 3:13 KJV - Where did Elijah & Enoch go? Elijah appeared at the mountain of transfiguration…where did he come from? 9. 43:02 {Private Convos w/Pilate and the Resurrection} In John 18 from verse 33, Jesus & Pilate share private conversations inside his residence without any of Jesus’ followers being present. How would the disciples know what was said? Did He tell his disciples post resurrection, proving that the resurrection is TRUE? 10. 46:43 {Do Punishments Get Passed Down?} Does God punish children for the sins of their fathers? 11. 48:51 {About Adoption Outside of Marriage} Is it biblically wrong to adopt a child before marriage when you know you want to marry? And what about adopting a child if you don't intend to marry? 12. 51:46 {Can Non-Believers Bear Fruit?} Can a non-believer bear the fruit of the Spirit? (Matthew 7:17) How can this be, and is it an argument in favor of secular morality? 13. 56:27 {How to be a “Peacemaker”} What is a peacemaker? How controversial can we be, and can we push back? Does it matter how loving we look when the world looks at love differently? 14. 1:01:25 {How to “Work out our Salvation”} I read a commentary on Philippians 2:12 and it was implied that salvation is not complete, what does that mean? Are we not fully saved? 15. 1:05:28 {Clinging to Hope in Tough Circumstances} My husband had a vasectomy before we got together. I used to be WOF and "claimed" a baby but now know that movement is heretical. Is it dumb to still believe in having a baby? 16. 1:07:13 {Is Covid God’s Plan, or From the Enemy?} Some pastors say the Coronavirus is God's plan. Others say it's a scourge of the Enemy. How do we rationalize these two views when both come from pastors you trust and admire? 17. 1:09:31 {About Holiness, Faithfulness, & Faith} Are holiness and faithfulness as important as having Faith? It's my position that they are. I just want a fresh perspective. 18. 1:12:09 {About John the Baptizer/Baptist’s Salvation} Was John the Baptizer born saved? Luke 1: 15 says he would be filled with the Holy Spirit "even from his mother's womb.” 19. 1:16:26 {How to Tell Which Verses Apply to Us} I'm confused about how to know whether a verse is for me or not. I see devotional books where they pluck out a verse, and I never know if it is for us now or not. 20. 1:19:06 {About the Textus Receptus} In one of your videos you said how the Textus Receptus came from the King James and not the other way around, I haven’t been able to find info on that and was hoping you could clarify.

Question 4: I once read a book that mentioned an atheist sculptor who came to Christ when he realized that the THUMB he was carving into a sculpture was a marvelous thing. As he looked at his own thumb and pondered how it works, he began to realize that it had to have been designed by a greater Being. Here’s some more clarification on question 20 from my friend Wesley Huff. He saw today’s stream and offered more info since this is an area he has spent time on. “The KJV translators didn’t use any manuscripts in their translation process. They weren’t necessarily doing the rough work of TC as much as they were doing comparison work (as well as you mentioned looking at the translation choices of precious translations- primarily Tyndale. It’s been thought that the majority of the time the translators defaulted to Tyndale’s choice which resulted in the KJV being 75% identical to Tyndale’s NT). The KJV translators used what was in their day called the the Textus Recepti (plural), that being the 5 editions or Erasmus’ GNT and then the updates by Stephanus and Beza (the OT was the 1545 Hebrew Bloomberg text which is basically the same Masoretic text we still use today). If you go on Amazon and type in “Textus Receptus” what you’re going to find is a small GNT produced by Trinity Publishing. It’s THIS that most modern KJV-onlyists refer to as the TR. What that is though is a work by a guy named Frederick H. Scrivener, who in the late 1800s back-tracked every Greek reading chosen by the KJV translators. In that way that TR is a Greek work, produced via an English work, via a Greek work.”

He smote the firstborn of Egypt, Both of man and beast. He smote many nations And slew mighty kings," Psalms 135:6, 8, 10 NASB1995 Jesus' ministry was to come and bring salvation the first time around. When He comes back again, it is for judgement. He is truth, justice, love, and mercy- all together. He IS God. "It will come about at that time That I will search Jerusalem with lamps, And I will punish the men Who are stagnant in spirit, Who say in their hearts, ‘The Lord will not do good or evil!’ Near is the great day of the Lord , Near and coming very quickly; Listen, the day of the Lord! Neither their silver nor their gold Will be able to deliver them On the day of the Lord ’s wrath; And all the earth will be devoured In the fire of His jealousy, For He will make a complete end, Indeed a terrifying one, Of all the inhabitants of the earth. Question 2; I spent the last 7 years feeling distance from God. It dawned on me around year 3 that this was not God being unresponsive as such, but teaching me to be faithful in spite of not feeling his closeness like I had before. I’m struggling through breaking a lifetime of the perfectionist mentality. And it has lead me to believe that I am abusing grace anytime I fall short. It causes me to lose sight of all the times I’ve triumphed in the Lord. I get tunnel vision and believe I can’t be forgiven because I am just bad. And I’m not truly saved. And I know how ridiculous it sounds when I say it (type it) out loud and I seem to believe that others can be saved no matter what they’ve done. I did have an abusive childhood, so idk if the inadequate mentality is affecting it. All I know to do is to keep holding onto Christ and reaffirming His promises when I feel that way. The irony is I’m putting myself in my own personal hell rn. I needed this video today and the Lord knew it.

@@righteous_lute6194 Good news! I think that’s the beginning of seeing the true beauty in grace and salvation. I’m glad to report that with much prayer, tears, and evaluating my life with the help of the Holy Spirit, I’ve made it out of that mindset I had. I now see I have never been good, never will be good and that daily reminder keeps me close to Christ. Somehow I’d convinced myself I wasn’t good enough for God and His love, missing the whole point that none of us are good enough. That’s what makes His love so great and what Christ did so powerful. We don’t deserve it, we get it because God is love. He is loving and merciful and although none of us deserve it or ever will, He loves us anyways. Seeing my weaknesses now no longer gets me down, it brings me closer to Christ. I still pray hard about my weaknesses for strength. But, I now see His strength is made perfect in weakness. I now really see what that means. Keep praying, even asking the Holy Spirit to intercede on your behalf. And don’t shy away from seeing your failures, bring them to the throne of Christ. I also had to see that I was half-heartedly committing to Christ, I was trying to add him into my life instead of making Him my life. He’s not an accessory, He IS the bread of life. I rejected Him time and time again thinking I could just decide and choose my life and then I wondered why He wasn’t helping me. I wasn’t letting Him & then I was feeling like He had abandoned me. Idk if this is the case for you. I just wanted to share the breakthrough He finally lead me to. And it wasn’t fun truly assessing my life, my motivators, and my commitments. But, basic biblical truths now make sense to me, things I’ve heard for years but never fully clicked. I feel a veil has been lifted and I was blind but now I see. Even just basic Amazing Grace lyrics we’ve all heard for years that finally made sense. We live our lives blinded by the century we are born into. So engrained we don’t even know it and can’t see beyond it. Just like the people of the 1st century church and Jesus’ day. So caught up in tradition, so unwilling to see that we are not good. Just like them. They told Jesus they followed the law, like as a case for them being good. Jesus had to break the law down for them to see if they hated, they’d committed murder. If they lusted, they committed adultery. Even Christians can get caught up in this if you ask them if they think they’re going to heaven. They’ll say, “Yes, I’ve lived a good life or followed the Bible.” As if to say that they’re still trying to earn their way to heaven. And that robs us of the true beauty of what Christ did on the cross, the very fabric of Christianity. We so desperately need to see how bad we are, so that we can truly see the beauty of grace and salvation. Problem is we so desperately want to avoid seeing that we never have been, nor ever will be, good. Even after we find Christ, we don’t become good. He makes us better, but we still deserve Hell. We still sin and we always will, hopefully less with Christ. But, we are still not good when the measure of good is God. And that’s something I hope I can keep in my heart so that I never forget, even on my best day, the value of what Christ did on that cross for me so many years ago. No matter how long or hard I walk with Christ, what He did and grace are still gifts that I do not deserve. And I’ll always be thankful for that! I know it’s long, but I hope it helps someone🥰

On question 3: My pastor said that leading people to believe in Christ (which we do in partnership with God) is the greatest work anyone can do because (a)it saves them from committing the greatest sin which is unbelief in Christ, and (b)it takes them from eternal punishment to eternal life. In that sense, we DO do greater works!

Hey! I know I'll never be able to explain it like brother Mike but look at hebrews for what it is. It's Paul speaking to Jewish converts who are more than likely, still holding on to the law. Chapter 5 gives them a beautiful picture of how Jesus is comparable to a high priest. He came in the flesh and therefore can sympathize with our struggles and trials. He also offered the final sacrifice for our sins. Chapter 5:12-14 is Paul criticizing for there lack of understanding and not being mature in the scriptures. Chapter 6 than continues from those last two verses about maturing in the scriptures and letting go of the law that Christ fulfilled, especially concerning sacrifices for sin. Than it continues throughout chapter 7, Paul giving examples of how Christ is our new high priest and through Him, the law is fulfilled...because most of the law and practices pointed to Christ to begin with. As I said, I know pastor Mike will dive into this with great depth and clarity but in the meantime, look at these 3 chapters as Paul speaking to those wanting to mingle Christianity with the law. Hope this helps somewhat, God bless you and give you (and me) understanding.

@@ReadJournalLove you very well could be correct but when I'm reading it, it's almost as Paul is saying: you guys should know these scriptures inside and out. I want to teach you about Melchizedek but you are still focused on things a new believer worries about. You worry about sacrificing for sins, you're focused on baptisms, signs and the judgement. Stop worrying about loss of salvation, you are secure. If we could lose our salvation and God forgives all sins than Christ would be crucified again and be put to shame...that can't/won't happen. Now, that we got that out of the way, God willing, let us mature and see who Jesus is. The above is what goes on in my mind...as I said before, could I be wrong? Absolutely! But it's how I understand it at this time. I, like you, look forward to the Hebrews study...no doubt I'll learn a lot. God bless you.

Now of the things which we have spoken this is *the sum* We have such an high priest, (of the order of Melchizedek; chapter 7) who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. (His life; "no greater love"...) For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests [Levitical] that offer gifts according to the law: {Hebrews 8:1:4} Question: which law had to do with sacrifices? The ten commandments? Nay, Jesus did not come to destroy, (twain times) but to fulfill the law of God. The Mosaic law (and sacrifices) of the sanctuary service of the Levitical priesthood. "It is finished" Know ye not that *ye* are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple *ye* are. {1 Corinthians 3:16-17} Who serve unto the example and *shadow* of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount. But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; *I will put my laws* into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: {Hebrews 8:5-10} (Jer 31:31-33)

Question one: in many hymnals you’ll find some songs that are duplicated because they are sung to different tunes. It stands to reason that the Psalms could also have duplication where they are sung to different tunes.

However, the wrong interpretation(s) of scripture on crucial doctrine is heresy... That is the reason Jesus founded a church of the living God --- which is the pillar and foundation of truth (1Timothy 3:15)... The all important question (for there are many christian churches to choose from) is: Exactly which church is the Bible talking about??? Do you know?

Question 9: John 18: 16 but Peter had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke to the servant girl on duty there and brought Peter in. John 9:26 John is still with Jesus at the cross and accepts the ongoing care of Mary. John appears to be an ongoing companion throughout the Lord's ordeal.

Bro Mike, on qn 3, the greater works that we do is works of reconciliation. [2Co 5:18-19 KJV] "18 And all things [are] of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation." [Heb 2:17 KJV] "17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto [his] brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things [pertaining] to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people." Paul says "I plant, Apollos waters; but God gives the increase.

Hopefully this blessed you today. God bless you.

Q1 I don't think this is any issue at all. It's not like the people who wrote these psalms were all locked up in isolation, never allowed to read any of the other psalms. These psalms were part of their culture. It's perfectly plausible that one would take an existing psalm and slightly modify it to bring forth a new (inspired) message.

Phillipians 2:12 means to work out what was worked in us. The outward should look like what we look on the inside. The inside of the cup is clean, and makes the outside of the cup clean. Salvation should look like something. It's not some secret belief we hold inside our hearts and keep hidden. Jesus lives in us and wants to touch everything around us!

As a lifelong history and astronomy enthusiast, I can expand a bit on #5. The people living in the Roman Empire at the time the events recorded in the Book of Acts took place were aware of five planets (they knew about Earth as well, but didn't know it was a planet like the ones they observed in the sky). The planets they recognized were Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. The more distant planets were unknown until the late 1700s to mid 1800s, as they are too faint to be seen without powerful telescopes. The planets were named in honor of the ancient deities, but opinions differed as to whether they were the deities themselves, or merely named after them. It is likely that the city clerk of Ephesus who was making a speech to calm the rioters in Acts 19 was likely not thinking of the planet Jupiter, but the ruler of the Roman "gods", who was, in their mythology, the father of Diana (and most of the other "gods" and heroes they believed in, as Jupiter "got around" a lot). Their view of the cosmos was probably similar to the one recorded by the Greco-Egyptian scientist Claudius Ptolemy, who was born about a generation after the events in Acts took place. According to Ptolemy, the Earth (which was spherical) was the center of the universe, and the sun, moon, and five planets orbited it, mounted to a series of "celestial spheres" encasing the Earth. This remained the dominant view in Western astronomy until the works of Copernicus and Galileo disproved it a millennium and a half later.

In regards to the first question we are concerned with the lyrics of a song but have no idea of the melodies so what may be obvious is lost. In my opinion it is mostly the same lyrics tweaked to a new tune maybe in order to shift the emphasis by the writer. Both songs are worthy for publication. It would be fascinating to hear the Psalms presented in the original format with music and vocals. What sort of soothing music did David play on his lyre to Saul I wonder.

Q 15 hit close to home as my wife and I had issues with infertility. I would say most vasectomies are reversible and she should consult with a Dr. Beyond that it might be wise to consider why the husband made the decision he did. There might be underlying trauma to be addressed.

Regarding the John 14:12-14 question, I think Jesus gives the best response. Read Mark 9:23-29. You may want to start at verse at verse 17 to get the complete story. Also Matthew 17:14- 21. Hope this helps.

Pastor Mike, I appreciate your heart and all of the work that goes into your thoughtful responses. You kind of answered my question when you addressed another question about reading verses in context. My question (which didn't make it into the 20 questions today) was similar - how do I know which promises of God apply to me? One of my passions is prayer and I want to glorify God in my prayers as I seek His will. I have grappled with verses about prayer, like "whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, etc.". I don't buy into the name it and claim it group but what about blanket statements like these. My faith is in the God of the promise and I do carefully search out other verses about prayer. Do you have some insight about this?

Anointing is the “application” of olive oil to one’s face or body, to give the appearance of the “shinyness” that appeared on Mose’s face when he returned from meeting with God on Mt. Sinai. The Jews wanted to recreate this “authority” in someone. The contemporary belief is far from this understanding.

The gods were associated with the planets just like today, at least the 7 bodies visible at the time. Their "behavior" was symbolically reflected in events on Earth. So a meteorite was especially significant since it was something that crossed over from the heavens to Earth. Which is also why the Nativity star was so interesting to the pagan world.
@rochellecaffee14172 жыл бұрын
There can be no “continuous” filling in the Old Testament. In the O.T. God’s dwelling place was in the Temple, tabernacle, and could not be maintained “continuously” until Jesus sent His Spirit to live in the believers at Pentecost, and ever after, by true believers. See Hebrews 8:7-13.

Clear context of John 3:13 is there is no one to ask about heaven except the Son of Man considering how it starts "we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen" "If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe" Modern: If you don't trust me on the little stuff how could you believe me on the big stuff which i am the only witness to!

Re Question 4, there are actually certain branches of science (DNA research, microbiology, and, oddly enough, optometry,) that have high percentages of believers who are at minimum deists (notice, I did not say necessarily Christians,) because the deeper you get into certain fields, the more order and complexity is found - to the point that while they may not become a Christian, at the very least they have to admit that there is some sort of direction beyond random chance that would have to account for what they are seeing. Francis Collins, ex-atheist and former director of the Human Genome Project, is an example.
