Indeed, the example of Jesus to god1 is like that of Adam. He created him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was.

Watching my Dad die without the Lord, denying HIM on his Death Bed, sent me into an emotional tail spin. I dreamed he sat on my bed and told me he was ok... I Hung on to THAT dream for a while, but the Lord reminded me HE knows everything, and will wipe every tear. I still count on THAT!!

Hey Mike, I’m confused by some thing you said in question one. He made the comment that you believe when people die they go right to the Lord. I thought the Bible taught that The dead were sleeping until judgment day. Could you please explain? Thanks so much!

When my (unsaved) mother died, I found myself saying, "Mama," because I was just sad that I'm never going to see her again and it would have been so easy for her to accept Jesus but she raged at me every time I tried to witness to her. I realized that I was addressing the dead, and replaced "Mama" with "Abba" because He is living and hears me.

Q 1, bothers me. Growing up, it was sort of said our loved ones in Heaven would watch over us. As an adult I know they don't watch over us. After my mom passed, yes I would direct a portion of my thoughts and prayers towards my mom. How much I loved her, thanking her for being a great mom, telling her how much I missed her. I NEVER expected an answer, I was NEVER asking her any questions. But I missed her tremendously, I guess to me it is a form of verbalizing, although I didn't speak them out loud, my feelings for my mom.

Pastor Mike, you mentioned that the spirits of our loved ones have no way of knowing when we are attempting to communicate with them and wouldn’t have a way of responding without a bodily resurrection. I don’t know that I agree with that notion based on the fact that we have spiritual interactions with other forces such as demons. Surely satan has an awareness of the world and influence over it. Would we attribute that to their origins as angelic beings with abilities beyond that of the human soul, or is it simply something all spirits have? I find the spiritual realm to be extremely unclear on many things simply because it deals with powers far beyond anything we are aware of. For instance, I always assumed that prayer works simply because of God’s omniscience, not because souls can hear you.

Those are beings who were created as spirit. Can you show anything scripturally that says human beings have that ability after death?

I think God Jesus and the Holy Spirit are three minds who share the same vast awareness and essence, when Jesus became human He became limited in awareness and location with a human physical form that became subject to physical death. After Jesus' Ascension He returned to being one essence with God the Father and the Holy Spirit and is now no longer human at all in form. Jesus may once again have a human form for the Second Coming.

Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference: 0:00 - Intro 1. 0:07 {Deceased Loved Ones & Necromancy?} Is going to the cemetery and talking to loved ones necromancy? 2. 27:59 {Our Choices & God’s Sovereign Will} Do we have any true control over life entering the world, or is it only based on God's sovereignty? I think if it’s God's plan for me to have a child, I'll get pregnant even if on birth control. But my husband thinks we control conception through birth control. If Jeremiah 1:5 applies to all people, wouldn't that mean God's plan overrides our plan for procreation? 3. 31:45 {Jesus’ Death: Physical but Not Spiritual?} If Jesus' humanity and divinity are inseparable, then how could He experience bodily death on the cross without His deity dying, as well? 4. 36:33 {Do Christians Continue to Need Forgiveness?} 1 John 1:9 perplexes me. I am a Christian. In what sense does my daily confession apply "forgiveness" to me? What happens if I die with “unforgiven” sin? 5. 41:19 {Why Doesn’t God Just Satisfy Skeptics’ Doubts?} How would you answer someone who says, “If there is a God, He knows what evidence I would need to believe and has not given it to me” and seems to genuinely mean it, not mocking/scoffing? 6. 51:33 {Metaphorical, Spiritual, or Physical Resurrection?} Is Romans 8: 11 referring to a metaphorical, spiritual, or physical resurrection later to come? I thought it was spiritual, but the term "mortal bodies" has me thinking differently. 7. 57:43 {Too Much Theology & Doctrine?} My pastor says that theology is “just someone’s opinion” and that “we shouldn’t get hooked on theology and doctrine.” How would you respond? 8. 1:03:05 {Did Peter & Other Disciples Quit?} Did Peter and the others "quit the ministry" when they went fishing in John 21:3? It seems that Peter had already seen the risen Christ 2 or 3 times before this event. 9. 1:08:33 {Stewarding Friendships with Unbelievers} How do you navigate having worldly friends? At times I enjoy their company and the conversation is good, but at other times they are unbearable to be around, making crude jokes. 10. 1:14:19 {God Conceals a Matter?} In Proverbs 25:2, in what sense is the author saying that God conceals a matter? It's clearly not an absolute (i.e., He does reveal things).

I have something that troubles me. Since fire does not seem to affect demons in Hell, but does affect humans, why did God create Hell "for the devil and his angels" if he knew that humans would be the ones suffering in the fire?

It is verboten for good reasons. However, people are not always doing what they think they are doing. They might only be accessing and reminding themselves of their own memory structures to gain comfort. In that void, a dangerous sense of communication can take hold. It is that false sense of contact that can affect one’s mental health.

I remember when my mom died, I prayed for her in ways that I knew went against my Christian theology, asking God to save her (after death). My grief was so overwhelming that I couldn’t even imagine living anymore and starting asking God to take my life. Praise to Jesus, He brought me out of that pit of deep sadness and reminded me of the abundant life He has given me. Our grief is powerful but our Savior is even more powerful to turn our sadness to joy and our hearts back to Him.

1 Thess 4 is a great passage for grief, at least for believers (or ones you suppose to be) if we believe Jesus died and rose again, then we believe they will be risen again "and the dead in Christ will rise first". we will be reuinited at the resurrection. what a wonderful thing. don't sorrow as those who don't have hope, we have the hope of the resurrection. even though we die, in Christ we will live again, we will be born again, made alive again, at the resurrection at Christ Jesus' glorious return.

Hmmm, I have an interesting idea. We as Christians should denounce televangelists who speak falsely in the name of God, but while doing that we should pray for them. We should pray for them and ask God to show them the error of their ways and grant them true enlightenment through faith in Jesus Christ. I think it would be a truly wonderful miracle if God would show these worldly televangelists their teachings are wrong and change them the same way He changed Paul.

My 25 year old son was murdered four years ago and when I go to his gravesite I say I’m so sorry you’re dead Steven over and over and say some other things and cry. But it’s not talking to him. It’s just saying how you’re feeling out loud. His fourth year just passed last month and when my daughter, her boyfriend and I went there. We all brought flowers and said something. Plus I left him a cigarette and my daughter left him a pack of skittles. Then afterwards we left and I said he’s going to enjoy those skittles and smoke a cigarettes after. It’s more a comfort to yourself and your imagination than actually thinking he’s actually smoking a cigarette or eating skittles. So I don’t feel guilty about it or feel I’m doing something demonic.

The thing about "sowing your seed" is that it encourages the poor, the destitute and the desperate to give their last with religious sounding words. And it doesn't matter the amount because in the end, the false preacher is getting rich off of the non-abundance of the poor. And this endorsed by the "man" who is supposed to be preaching from the same Bible that commanded farmers to leave the corners of their field for the "gleaners". In other words, the rich leave behind a portion of his wealth for the poor. These preachers have a lot to answer for because they refuse to leave some behind for the poor.

a followup question would be, why does God say not to speak to dead people? to me its been made clear that its because the dead cannot be contacted - they're dead. as Mike has said, there are demons who will fool you and act like them or whatever. necromancy, mediums, speaking to dead people is an abomination unto God because you're communicating with demons.

the way i hear you going through hypothetical followup questions, like "ok mike i hear you and i agree with all of that, but what about" just super reminds me of Lev where it says 'do not have sex with....' fill in the blank, and it had to be filled in with literally every relationship imaginable, as though the followup questions from Israel was like, "ok sure i can't have sex with my mom, but what about my wifes mom? or my neightbors wife?...no? what about??" its kind of hilarious how we just try to grasp at straws to justify things we want even when scripture is so clear against it

RE: Q8/John 21 - Mike, I appreciate your desire to lead the questioner into the text, but text has context and I think there's something much bigger in this passage. Remember, Peter had experienced this before, in Luke 5. At that time, the instruction was also the wrong time, wrong way, and wrong place for net fishing, but the Lord gave an enormous catch. He then told Peter "from now on, you will be catching men" (Luke 5:11). Later, Peter jumped up to say "Lord, we have left everything and followed you" (Luke 18:28). Here in John 21, it seems significant that Peter now leads the conversation to go BACK to fishing -- and the Lord meets him with the exact same test: "Let down the nets." Peter had briefly forgotten his new vocation, possibly still feeling guilt or unease about his denial, but the Lord graciously brings him back around to the new vocation and fully restores his ministry.

I study the Bible every day all day ever since I got born again and I believe the King James Bible is the pure word of God for the English-speaking peoples and that the words of God inside the Holy Bible is the body and blood of Jesus Christ that we eat and drink with our eyes and our ears and our minds and our heart and our soul... It's like the letters in red are the blood he shed. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ of the Holy Bible and no other.

John 13:19 New International Version “I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am who I am." This is good enough for me! Prophecy is given so our faith is strengthened when we actually SEE these events happen. Speculation is not in the picture, is it? (If you haven't noticed, almost all "news reporting" in 2024 is 95% speculation. Just a random thought.)
