I do not like when people say thoughts and prayers to you, or praying for you, or my thoughts are with you, or praying. What people need to do is ACTUALLY pray for each other. When we say we are sending thoughts and prayers and really aren't or don't we are essentially being a Pharisse or acting like they did. They disfigured their face to make it appear that they fasted. When in actuality they didn't. So don't say you will pray for someone when you either say or type it and then move on. If someone needs prayer for losing a loved one or anything else, they deserve real prayers being prayed for them. So next time you find yourself in a situation where someone needs prayer....stop and pray for them. Then write their name down and why they need prayer and pray for them throughout the day and week. We need better and truthful prayer lives. Bottom line. God bless.

I am anew Christian and def not a teen, but it's the same for me. Getting good answers without patronising me is great. 1 of our pastors in email questions etc seem as though he is very passionate about answering questions and like he has put thought into answers and as though he enjoys a back and forth over God's word in the Bible, and it's great especially as I am the type that doesn't want to bother anyone, this seems like I am not being a bother. Other pastor answers well not patronising but more about giving the basic answer, so both are good in own way. If I had received patronising answers I don't know that I would keep asking or that I would have continued in my journey to faith

My husband and I worked with the youth in our church for over 20 years. Every year we went to camp over 4 hours away. We would come back exhausted and often with no voices. Church people would often ask how we enjoyed our "vacation"! My husband and I would look at each other and think, "They have no idea how much work it is!" BUT always worth the investment in each of the young people's lives!!

Headed out to do that this week! 54 years old and have been doing student ministry for @20 years now. This year is a big one for me because I’ve been on the sidelines for the last two years (because if life) and headed to camp as an individual leader for campers coming without a youth group. Usually I go with my church and know the students. God has definitely directed this and I know I will be worn out, but I’m also excited to see what God has planned. Vacation, it is not!! But MAN…to be a seed planter or waterer during that week is a humbling, treasured time. ❤️

When I was a teenager I went to a church youth club. Once a year we would go in a minibus to a weekend camp. I was fairly godless at that time, but they were all very easy going about it. It bore fruit in my life many years later, and I am so grateful now, that those leaders gave up their time to try to show God's love to me xxx

I agree, platitudes and cliches can never substitute for real help (or advice). Also, about the 'thinking and praying' issue, I've also heard people saying 'sending you energy and light (or other strange phrases) your way'. Thinking about a person may not do them harm, but it won't do them any good, either. It's an empty phrase. Offering to pray is good only if you actually do it. Non believers generally say they send thoughts your way, whatever that means (imo nothing). The other thoughts: energy, light, etc etc reek of New Age. Just be sure to actually pray if you say you will; God expects us to follow through with our word, as He does with His. Saying we'll pray for someone should not be just a courtesy soon forgotten, but a promise kept.

Question 13!!! When I first got saved the devil would whisper Matthew 7:21 and many other scriptures in my ear to cause fear in me. I spent MONTHS thinking I wasn’t saved at all, thinking I wasn’t doing enough, scared to do absolutely anything outside of reading my Bible. I had no understanding at all of what the gospel was because of the enemy and I couldn’t rest at all in who God says I am in Christ. I had no joy and only fear. I begged God to show me if I had some sort of sin in my life that was holding me back, I begged and prayed for his help. One day my pastors wife told me that the enemy must have seen something in me that I was not seeing because he knew if he couldn’t have me he was at least going to make my life on earth as miserable as possible. I finally realised I could do absolutely nothing to save myself and I just let go. It was like in that moment God completely lifted the veil for me and now I no longer feel condemnation when I read his word, I trust him everyday to hold me in his hand and guide me and I feel so much peace now. Now I realize I won’t be perfect in this flesh and I live in peace and love because he saved me. I’ll never ever be able to repay him but when I get to heaven he will get all of the glory for doing what I could never do.

I have prayed for you. I also had a sin I kept doing...and I loved doing it. I read that God wants us to be honest with Him...He knows it all anyway. I knew I had to tell Him I loved my sin...that was the point where I became free of it...speaking it out loud changed something in me...it was humbling to express that to God. He gave me the strength to stop...and I did..for good. God bless you. He will help you.

Confessing our sins one to another is humbling. It helps keep us from the sin of pride. But if you can't, because the people around you will rake you over the coals, at the very least confess your sin to the the Lord. He is the One we've really offended. We need His forgiveness. He will show you if and when you need to confess your sin to others, and to who specifically. God's Word does not require us to make public confession each time we sin. But we do need to keep short accounts with God (1 John 1:9), agree with Him, receive His forgiveness and be cleansed from all unrighteousness!

I used to have a sin that was a stronghold in my life before I gave my life to Christ. I wanted to stop, but couldn’t, until I made Jesus Lord of my life. Once that happened, I realized that temptation started in the mind first. It starts as a nugget in the mind, then becomes a fantasy and then it moves on to action, and this action.. the yielding to temptation is sin, and that breaks my fellowship with God. So, early on in my walk with Christ, I would read Scripture all the time and memorize specific verses that I would repeat over and over until that thought passed.Philippians 4:8 really helped me. And 2 Corinthians 5:17 would remind me that I am a new creation in Christ. Finally, submit to the Holy Spirit instead of being focused on the flesh. Hope this is helpful.

When I am alone at home or in my car I pray out loud and with my eyes wide open. I have a 45 minute drive to and from work. I do most of my praying on those drives. I feel like if I close my eyes and blow my head may cause a accident. So I keep my eyes open and watch where I going.😃😃

@@loveycat5474 I used to drive a truck for a living. I listened to scripture and prayed as I drove. God tells us to pray continually, Jesus said, "eat my body and drink my blood" and we know, Jesus is the word. We need to pour the word into ourselves, (faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God) And remember the Berean Jews, God said they were of noble character because they listened intently to what they heard (from Paul) and eagerly tested everything they heard against scripture. I was blessed and guided by God through my many many hours of driving and praying, (and saw multitudes of prayers answered) but I have been even more blessed by pouring the word into me. I listen even now, and also I listen while i sleep, and the blessings are endless. WE need to test everything we hear from any person against the word, and we need also to practice the word, (do not merely listen the word and so deceive yourselves, put it into practice) I loved your message, I encourage you not only to continue, but also to add to it, and add to your spiritual maturity, by listening to the word also as you drive, and certainly while you sleep. I go to sleep listening to the word, I wake listening to the word, God bless you. And thank you.

Thank you for these great insights. I used to go to a church where lots of flag waving, dancing, and basically running wild were the norm. I have no problem where someone is worshipping from the heart and getting enthusiastic but so much of what was done there was done with the emphasis on thinking such actions caused God to move more and that those of us who have perhaps a quieter spirit were treated as "less than". It often felt like a show being put on and I think that is where it gets dangerous.

Question 13: the book “Screwtape Letters” sheds some light on that. I don’t always agree with C.S. Lewis and his theology, but I liked the ideas posited in that book. Things like keeping Christian’s distracted from the work God has for them with temptation, etc. Really worth a read!

Regarding question 3, here’s a quote attributed to Augustine [Edit: make that Rupertus Meldenius]: “In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.” In my experience, fundamentalist churches like the one mentioned have a very long list of essentials, a very short list of non-essentials (i.e. very few areas of liberty), and tend to be lacking in charity.

@@nostalkingzone The Restoration Movement is nothing like progressive Christianity, though one branch of it formed a progressive denomination in the late 1960s (the Disciples of Christ). It's a group of churches that take "Sola Scriptura" to its logical conclusion and attempt to eliminate any dogmatic stance on any issue not specifically mentioned in the Bible. The name comes from the fact that it was originally intended to restore the 1st Century church and set aside the man-made traditions that the founders saw as responsible for the vast number of denominations and traditions Christianity has divided into over the centuries. Churches that originated from the Restoration movement include the Christian Churches and Churches of Christ, as well as the similarly named Church of Christ (non-instrumental), as well as the aforementioned Disciples of Christ, who liberalized and have withered to a tiny fraction of their former membership.

I am a woman and this is the collection of questions from my sisters and brothers in Christ I received so far being 4 years saved: 1) you look different now? (The first time I walked in I had earrings and a nail polish) Anyone said something to you? 2) do you wear pants outside church? 3) if you wear pants, how do people know you are a Christian? 4) why did you get a haircut? Did you get highlight too? I am going to a very conservative congregation. Trying to not be a stumbling block to anyone. Still not figured out where the borderline is but just praying for myself and others to have peace. We are not living just for ourselves and should serve and think of others weaker in faith. But seriously, it's not always eaaassyy 🤷‍♀️ actually conservative churches is a good way to learn how to not get offended, humble yourself and learn to love in the environment of misunderstanding. No matter where you are, some sorts of problems will arise.

@mikewinger, there are several references in the Bible of David dancing. I’ve been in a lot of different services where people were dancing or waving their hands. I’ve just grown to not let what others do distract me. And if what they are doing is not inspired by God, that’s between them and God. Truly, when you are in a big church, there is gong to be a lot of distractions. I’ve had to work past my own judgement of those people and let it be something God speaks to them about.

You get many verses that back pre trib but then you get many verses that back mid/post trib like Mark 13:24-27. This needs to be a full study. Please! I will pay whatever it takes to have this done. I believe pre trib, but prepare for post trib. The reason is the vials are specifically called the wrath of God, and paul states we are not appointed to Gods wrath anymore once saved.

You are correct about God’s wrath not being for his people. That said, wrath specifically begins (roughly) at the middle of the tribulation, so it would be a mid-trib view, not pre-trib.

On the subject of worship in the Church. I'm an opera singer, I used to aing solo's from time to time in church. I stopped doing this not because I didn't feel like I was worshiping God in doing it, but I felt like the focus was too much on me and not God. Not that others can't sing a solo in church and not be that way.

Q16: It's a tradition that's developed over time; neither closing the eyes nor bowing the head is required in order to pray. However, there are reasons to consider it a good practice. To name just two, closing the eyes tends to limit distractions, and bowing the head indicates submission to the God you're praying to. But there are circumstances when neither would be advisable.

There’s nothing “wrong” with saying my thoughts and prayers are with you, but in the case of mass shootings- thoughts and prayers are not enough to solve this problem. And in regards to awareness, everyone is aware of innocent people and children being murdered in places that are supposed to be safe, yet not much physical action is being taken to prevent it.

I used to go to a church where a woman claimed to have the "spirit of laughter." At random times during the service she would start laughing, get up from her seat and walk back and forth at the rear of the sanctuary. Simply put, I thought she was acting out and I found this very distracting. Needless to say I stopped attending that church.

Yep. This sounds very familiar to the church my family used to attend. There was an insistence that such things and such people who did them were more "spiritual" than the rest of us and, that by doing so, they caused heaven to move and miracles to occur, while the rest of us were "missing out on a blessing". Very grateful God brought us out of that place.

So, funny story... my church in GA was a very old fashioned, strict Baptist church. When I moved to Maine I started attending what they called a Southern Baptist ministry, but it was nothing like a real Southern Baptist church. They had combo bands and folks singing and dancing and kids running up and down the isles and I was actually a little shocked at the casual dress and behviour of everyone. When my best friend from Maine came to GA with my daughter and me and we attended my old church I had to show her how to dress and she was literally flabbergasted when I told her she needed to wear nylons or stockings with her dress. She asked the ladies at church if it was really necessary and if she could wear dress pants... yep, that didn't go over well! My daughter meanwhile, was sitting very quietly in the pews until time for the penny march when they would all go to Sunday school. My daughter started dancing a little and I scolded her, and my friend says, "Surely she's allowed to dance?" and the pastor's wife just looked at my friend and said "No, I'm sorry but Baptists don't boogie"! rofl

In our younger years, my hubby and I met at a KJV Only church and they scolded him for for using the NKJV in a 10 minute impromptu sermon. The leadership went so far as to later preach the prologue of the KJV. We moved shortly after that and attended another KJV Only Church (my choice but not his....he was loving me by not attending a large church with loud music) for two years. While strict, the congregation showed their love and care for us in monetary ways from day 1. It was annoying to have to wear a dress at every church function but it was an example everyone followed. My biggest thing had to do with the ladies of the church giving me their dresses they no longer wear. Many of the dresses weŕe nice but others I didn't like. I accepted them with the good intentions they had for me. It wasn't until an elderly lady gave me a sweater for my then 10 month old when she saw us shopping at Walmart (OCT in NC, baby was in light clothes but covered up in warm blankets before going outside) that I started noticing "something" was going on. (That lady appologized for sticking her nose in my busines the following Sunday. I suspect her husband scolded her but I perceived it as a kind gesture and thanked her anyway.) That "something" I later realized was the women seeing me out and about wearing jean pants on a regular basis and they didn't like that. Instead of talking to me directly, they thought that giving me more dresses would encourage me to wear them in my daily life. I shrug it off but hubby is so annoyed with it that when we moved out of NC to NY, we avoided any church that was KJV Only. As long as the church is faithful to the teachings of the Bible, the music isn't too loud, the service isn't turned into a Broadway Musical, the congregation isn't so large that we would get lost, and the Congregation isn't focused too much on the legalistic side of Christianity, we'll consider joining/regularly attending. I like the hymns, hubby likes Contemporary and Gospel styles of music. It's a fun balancing act that we've learned to agree on.

The biggest issue I have found with KJV only, skirt wearing churches isn’t their rules, it’s how they look down on others who don’t follow them. When I shifted my person views on skirt wearing and KJV onlyism, I was ousted from ministries I had served in for years, called (without being named) divisive from the pulpit, and gossiped about to the pastor for my informational Facebook posts regarding my shifting views. I never once attended church in pants or used anything but the KJV in my ministries. I never broke their rules, but I wanted to make sure I wasn’t being dishonest either by pretending I agreed with them. How they reacted was 100% spiritual abuse.

No one thinks you are "causing harm." By questioning "Thoughts and Prayers" they are acknowledging and exposing that the statement mostly serves the messenger, not the recipient. It is to say "I also heard of this tragic event and don't want to be left out." It is at best an empty platitude. The angry reaction mostly is directed at those in power who continue to push this line while doing literally nothing to address the problem. The only thing that "Prayer" can seemingly provide is to give the recipient the strength to endure hardship and to try to keep living the best life you can. Good for those who need that. If you are using prayer for anything more... be prepared for disappointment.

Concerning the issue of the rapture, I was pre-tribulation in the late 70's after reading Hal Lindsay's "Late Great Planet Earth". Then I had someone suggest reading what Jesus said in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21. Jesus makes it clear what the order of events are. Since then, I have pre-millenial and post-tribulational which means I believe Christians will go through the great tribulation and after the tribulation, Jesus returns to be with Him and starts His millennial reign. Would I like to escape the bad stuff? Sure! But, countless other believers have suffered persecution and martyrdom. So, I hope for the best but prepare for the worst

It’s very clear. I don’t understand why so many people are so confused about the second coming/rapture. The second coming and rapture are the same event on the same day. It happens right before the millennium (1000 years). Jesus comes in the clouds to get us all at the same time (second coming), the dead rise, and the living rise to meet them in the air (rapture). Then we go to Heaven for 1,000 years. See 1 Corinthians 15:51-53 and 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17.

I always thought "thoughts and prayers" a trite cliché, a way of trying to comfort a stranger, but often said in a New Age-y /WoF kind of faith-in-"Faith" "vibe" transmission sort of way. Without simply saying "I'm/ we are praying for you" it's anyone's guess what such a non-descript message as "thoughts-and-prayers" might mean.

If you visit some genuinely believing churches in, say, Nigeria, you will find their worship practices much different than in North America. Much of which would be seriously out of place here. Amen, regarding Question 13 ... if the enemy can get God's people to sin, then God can't use them effectively and this hinders God's work. It also grieves God's heart when His children sin; and while ever a Christian lives for self instead of God, they're building with wood for the fire which results in loss of reward. The enemy will do anything to attempt to undermine the work of God.

As for counselling teens... I always work with 15 years olds (as a driver instructor). I think it's important to LIKE them. And if you don't like a certain person, then you should try to still treat them as if you do. Actually, if you treat people well, this actually subconsciously makes you start to like them, because your thinking re-enforces your behavior.

As for tithing, read Genesis 14:18 throug 20 as far as continuing to the New Testament read Hebrews 7:17. Also Mathew 25:35 through 46. And in John 12:5 it is confirmed that one of responsibilities of the church that Jesus and his decibels are establishing, is to feed the poor the poor.

I would push back on the issue of a church requiring skirts for women. It was only less than 100 years ago that pants became acceptable for women, that was the world that changed that view, are we as Christians supposed to blindly follow the culture? Are you going to say the same thing about when men wearing dresses becomes more socially acceptable in 50 years? I'm not saying that if you as a woman wear pants you are automatically sinning, just that I think it may be wise to think from a different perspective on this subject and to humble yourself and not be prideful!

RE Question 17 (Original Sin) There is no scriptural support for the Lutheran/Calvinist doctrine of Original Sin (i.e. imputation of Adam's sin/guilt to and the inheritance of Adam's 'sin nature'). The early church believed infants were born innocent. It was only after infant baptism was introduced that a doctrine of original sin was invented to support the practice. For example, the _Apology of Aristeides_ (c.125, 15.11), the _Epistle of Barnabas_ (c.130, 6:11), and the _Shepherd of Hermas_ (c.100-c.160, 27:1; 101:1-3) all expressed the conviction that children are born innocent of sin. There is also no evidence at this early stage of paedobaptism. Indeed, the _Didache_ (aka _The Lord's Teaching Through the Twelve Apostles to the Nations_ , c.90-150, 7:1-4) reserved baptism for persons old enough to have received instruction and to have fasted for at least the day before. Justin Martyr (c.100-c.165) viewed baptism as rendering the Christian "spiritually regenerated as new-born babes" ( _First Apology_ 34) and restricted it to those who "are persuaded and believe that what we teach and say is true, and undertake to be able to live accordingly, are instructed to pray and to entreat God with fasting, for the remission of their sins" acquired when they were "brought up in bad habits and wicked training" ( _First Apology_ 61). Had Justin believed infants were born in a sinful state, he would hardly have thought that being "spiritually regenerated as new-born babes" was a worthwhile outcome. Note, too, how Justin viewed one's sinful state as resulting from one's upbringing, not as something inherited. Irenaeus of Lyons (c.130-202) expressed the view that Christ sanctified infants and children: “becoming an infant for infants, thus sanctifying infants; a child for children, thus sanctifying those who are of this age” ( _Against Heresies_ II, 22.4) and that faith in Christ was necessary for the remission of sins ( _Against Heresies_ III, 12.2, 7). Concerning the ‘Slaughter of the Innocents’, Irenaeus wrote: _For this cause, too, He suddenly removed those children belonging to the house of David, whose happy lot it was to have been born at that time, that He might send them on before into His kingdom_ ( _Against Heresies_ III, 16.4) It is difficult to argue these infants were regarded by Irenaeus as being in a sinful state. Clement of Alexandria (c.150-c.215) wrote “For so also we lie under Adam’s sin through similarity of sin” (Fragments 2.4, c.195). Note that there is no hint of inherited sin in this allusion to Romans 5:12. The first steps towards the development of a doctrine of original sin as it later came to be understood were recorded by Tertullian (c.160-220). Writing c.205-210, Tertullian objected to what appears to have been the newly-introduced practice of paedobaptism. His objection was, not only that were infants innocent but also that they were incapable of ‘coming’ of their own volition (cf. Luke 18:16) to express faith or to confess or repent from any supposed sins ( _On Baptism_ , 18). Instead, baptism was to be preceded by prayer, fasting, night-long vigils, and the confession of all past sins ( _On Baptism_ , 20). In _The Apostolic Tradition_ (c.215), Hippolytus of Rome (c.170-c.235) endorsed paedobaptism (21.16) but gave no theological justification for the practice. Origen of Lyons (c.185-254) thought souls had a pre-incarnate existence ( _De Principiis_ 1.7.3-5) and people were born into a state reflecting the relative departure from good done by them during that existence ( _De Principiis_ 2.9.1-7). Hence, everyone was born in a state of sin ( _Homilies on Leviticus_ 8:3, Commentaries on Romans 5:9). Nevertheless, they shared with Adam only physical descent and the mortality with which he was punished ( _Against Celsus_ 4.40). Quoting Romans 5:12-21, Origen rejected the existence of a sinful state inherited from Adam ( _Commentaries on Romans_ 5:1). Perhaps the first Christian theologian to formally posit the inheritance of the sins and guilt therefore from Adam was Cyprian of Carthage (c.200-258). Cyprian said infants were contaminated by descent from Adam and baptism provided forgiveness for any sins thus inherited ( _Epistle_ 58.5; 64.5). Personal repentance (cf. Acts 2:38) was not a prerequisite for paedobaptism: which was considered efficacious for salvation in its own right ( _Epistle_ 73.7). Gregory of Nazianzus (c.329-390) regarded infants as being born morally neutral but, because salvation required positive righteousness, were eligible to be baptized so as to acquire it; otherwise they would be left in a state of limbo. Conversely, Christians who desired baptism but died beforehand were lost ( _Oration_ 40.17, 22-23). Therefore, baptism was crucial to salvation. Conversely, Gregory of Nyssa (c.335-c.395) argued that, not only are infants born innocent, they’re born in a state of grace such that “in the case of infants prematurely dying … they pass to the blessed lot at once” ( _On Infants’ Early Deaths_ ), negating any presumed necessity for paedobaptism. John Chrysostom (c.349-407) expressed the firm view that infants are born innocent, writing “the soul of a little child is pure from all the passions” ( _Homilies on the Gospel of St. Matthew_ 62.4). The _Apostolic Constitutions_ (c.375-380) implied that infants are born innocent, saying: _ye have “been baptized into the Lord’s death,” and into His resurrection, as “new-born babes”._ (5.3.16) The only mention of paedobaptism was in the context of a criticism of those who would delay their own baptism till they were approaching death (so as to avoid compromising the perceived efficacy of their baptism) but would hypocritically baptize their infants, thus denying those infants the same opportunity (6.3.15). Paedobaptism was neither approved or disapproved in this passage. Elsewhere, however, baptism was restricted to those who had fasted and received instruction beforehand (7.2.22, 7.3.34). Jerome (c.347-420) held the view that all sins are forgiven at baptism ( _Letter_ 64.2, 4, 7; _Letter_ 123.11), which even children require ( _Letter_ 85.6) for inherited guilt - for which he cited Cyprian and Origen as authorities ( _Against the Pelagians III_ 18-19) - and in spite of noting scriptures opposing that stance (e.g. Ezekiel 18:4, 20) ( _Letter_ 39.4). Augustine of Hippo (354-430) argued that the sin of Adam - including the guilt for it - is inherited by all humans ( _Letter_ 55.8; _Letter_ 164.6, 19; 250.2). Fundamental to Augustine’s hermeneutics was his belief that the practice of paedobaptism necessarily evidenced a tradition based on revelation to the church through Scripture and it was his job to identify the relevant Scriptures. The core of Augustine’s argument supporting paedobaptism was that Adam’s sin was inherited, an argument he largely based on an interpretation of what he _knew_ from Ambrosiatser's _Commentaries on Romans_ to be a Latin mistranslation of Romans 5:12b, which construed Adam as the one ‘in whom’ all sinned ( _A Treatise Against Two Letters of the Pelagians_ 4.7). Coupling this with an interpretation of poorly-translated texts of Psalm 51:5a and Job 14:4-5a, Augustine argued that even infants are held guilty because of Adam’s transgression ( _On the Merits and Forgiveness of Sins, and On the Baptism of Infants_ I.34, III.13). Hence, according to Augustine, having inherited Adam’s sin, infants needed baptism for its remission ( _Letter_ 158.1). So, until Augustine, the only early church writers claiming infants were born in an inherited sinful state were Cyprian of Carthage and Augustine’s contemporary, Jerome. Against these three, Aristeides of Athens, the writer of the _Epistle of Barnabas,_ Hermas of Rome, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Gregory of Nazianzus, Gregory of Nyssa, John Chrysostom and the writer of the _Apostolic Constitutions_ all viewed infants as being born innocent. When we come to the Reformation, we find Luther (an Augustinian monk) uncritically adopting Augustine’s teaching and Calvin endorsing Luther. What has passed down to us from Adam is the collateral consequences of Adam's sin. This is no different than if you or I were to be convicted of a crime and imprisoned for it; we would be punished but our dependents would also suffer as a result. What Adam’s descendants inherited from Adam as a result of his sin was his mortality and what they lost was access to the Tree of Life. The doctrine of Original Sin is a plain contradiction of Ecclesiastes 7:29 ( _Behold, this alone I found, that God made man upright, but they have sought out many devices_ ). What Scripture clearly shows is that human sinfulness arises during one’s youth (Genesis 8:21; Jeremiah 3:25) and that children must reach a certain level of maturity before they are able to make moral choices between good and evil (Isaiah 7:15-16). Furthermore, since the human spirit is not inherited from one’s parents but is given to each person individually by God (Ecclesiastes 12:7; Hebrews 12:9), it is unreasonable to suppose it is any less pure at conception than the source from whence it comes.

The question is … are they actually praying or is it more of just a catch phrase or platitude meant to sound caring but if they haven’t actually prayed then that phrase means nothing.

I don't actually know how Christians pray. Do they do it before bed or just whenever they feel a need to? And that's another question I have wondered, when someone says "I pray for your quick recovery", how many people actually mean it? Of course I'll never get a decent answer to that since most religious folk will say they do even if they don't.

5:40 another angle on the prayer "causing harm" could be religious consent. Many people don't want a god that they don't worship involved in their life, in the same way that if i said "I'll sacrifice to Odin for you", most christians would respond "No thanks, I'm good, please don't". I'm not saying that's what's going on usually, I'd argue it's not, but it is a thing some people have brought up in my life. Im very fond of the opener "can i pray for you?" as a way around this.

#3....I had a walking friend who holds to Independent Fundamental Baptist church and she repeatedly quites KJVO but if I quoted NKJV she wouldn't respond. She seems to judge me alone and has ev n said long hair is a glory to women, my hair is short. I finally got mad when she said she was concerned that I'd miss church at home going to visit my son and grandsons who live 8 hours away. This is after many times she'd mumble under her breath about KJVO, tattoos being bad, all sins the same, etc. I started to feel like she was bringing her church to me instead of being a Christian friend. So I'm contemplating letting her go her own way. I DID feel judged constantly!

When the topic of Adam and Eve comes up, remember, the Bible was telling one specific very important story about the first humans. That doesn't mean God didn't create more people with stories that aren't in the Bible

The biggest issue I have found with KJV only, skirt wearing churches isn’t their rules, it’s how they look down on others who don’t follow them. When I shifted my person views on skirt wearing and KJV onlyism, I was ousted from ministries I had served in for years, called (without being named) divisive from the pulpit, and gossiped about to the pastor for my informational Facebook posts regarding my shifting views. I never once attended church in pants or used anything but the KJV in my ministries. I never broke their rules, but I wanted to make sure I wasn’t being dishonest either by pretending I agreed with them. How they reacted was 100% spiritual abuse.

Concerning the dresses only issue and the cultural isolation of dress wearing: while in our modern world culture it is accepted for women to wear pants. I think that a better self question of whether it’s men’s clothing would be which clothing is more distinctly feminine? When we ask this question the answer is dresses. We learn at a young age the distinction on the restroom doors.We see this in special occasion clothing: men wear tux or suit and the majority of women choose dresses. I believe we understand that dresses even in our modern culture are a more feminine dress.This is not saying that a dress is more modest simply by being a dress. I’m simply saying that I believe that secular culture still views dresses as feminine clothing.The individual needs to search their heart prayerfully inquire of God what He would have for you. A church may have guidelines for attire while representing the church, as an employer holds a standard of attire for the work environment. I personally believe that this goes deep into the heart and is a question that should be prayerfully worked through. Know what God wants for you, do that, and live in peace, knowing that you dress accordingly.

We make a distinction between Original Sin (having a nature that is inclined to sin) and Original Guilt (being guilty from birth as if one had sinned/broken a law already). We reject the latter
