I love how when you dropped the bottom piece you stayed so calm because every man I have ever seen building anything that would have set them off on a tantrum lol. I usually just laugh about it because it's not helping anything at all. I am going to try this I need squirrel houses for my 20+ squirrels that live in my trees I am afraid they will make their way into my attic soon we just moved here and I have never really had squirrels in my yard until now, I feed them so I probably need to house them also.

Nicely done. Only thing I'd add would have been some furring strips around the outside of the box to make it easier to climb in and out of. That or you can just score lines on the box - 1/8th to 1/4 inch in depth - with a rotary tool or circular saw to achieve the same effect. It's good to do that to the inside of the boxes as well. Makes it easier for them and their young to gain purchase climbing from inside or out. As for a safe finish to prolong your wood's life it's best to use a viking mix - I use it on all my raised beds as it's food safe - which is equal amounts of raw linseed oil and pine tar. It's what they used to use on their ships and houses. Plus - initially - it smells heavenly. It does fade quick enough so it wouldn't bother the animals. And they're well used to pine tar anyway.

I am so pleased with myself! Thank you so much for posting this instructional video. I just made 2 houses for my 2 rescued babies. they are teenager squirrels now and soon will be ready to go to the woods. I want them to have some extra advantage so they can thrive. The 12 ft would not fit in my car and got 4 8ft and have some left over. I was able to get "damaged" wood for a discount, so the extra wood was much better than the hassle. Your instructions were clear, I watched it a few times and went for it. If you can figure out how to make a note on the video about the floor size that would be nice as I made the cut as you said and it was tricky making that extra cut to resized it. I love having good tools and using them. Now hopefully my little guys will decide that they are awesome homes and will move right in when I get them hung. Thank you again for such good instruction!

Always better to not put screws and nails in live trees if you can avoid it. I prefer to build houses to be wedged in between forks and whatnot. Anyway, very well done none the less.

Man I wish u would have had a link for the plans ‘ cuz I wanna make one right now’ and I’ve been searching for blueprints of a squirrel box with a wrap around porch. I just can’t find one’ but I think I’m gonna follow this video! The wrap around porch is so important so if the babies fall or come out ‘ they have a little Time so the mom can hear and find them not far from the nest

Did any squirrels ever use the house? They are pretty intelligent but often they prefer to live in a attic. lol

Nice video but I have a question, so l have this one squirrel tamed but he is not always in my yard, if I were to buy one of these squirrel houses off of Amazon were should I hang it, I have a tall fence and a few trees. I also want to ask if there is any way to attract them to the house. If not that’s okay
@HandyGuy20164 жыл бұрын
At least 10 feet off the ground, facing North. They typically only use them for nesting and then they move out until winter.

Hi HANDYGUY... thanks for the videos I was able to make the squirrel house, though not the best, it should work. Now my QUESTION is: How do I set it up on the tree? What did you use to secure it up there? I know it's a little heavy, so that is why I ask you. Thanks again.
