FYI, Cypress knees also grow around the cypress trees in yards and play havoc with lawn mowers.

Bayou Corne sinkhole. The whole town was evacuated and abandoned. I’d be pissed. Do you think they got what was monetarily due to them. Probably not. They had to fight tooth and nail for what they did get. Big Corp always wriggles out of being responsible.

Cypress knees form on mature trees as a backup replacement plan. They will remain as knees until or unless the mature tree is no longer there. When the sun from the angles the parent tree shades the knees no longer is shaded from them, the knees will begin growing into cypress trees. The cypress trees that have a large conical base before extending into a straight trunk grew from knees. The cypress trees that grow more or less straight up from the ground without the conical base were grown from the seed of the cypress trees. But the seeds will not grow unless they are blown far enough from the tree to be in their own sunny spot.
