Decided to switch it up a bit and try a new format on here. We want to be more open with you guys and really show you what filming looks like. Honestly, this one was one of the more enjoyable videos we've filmed. Believe it or not, these are some of the convos we find ourselves having over dinner or lunch so it's pretty spot on. What are some of the things you wish you could tell your younger self? What do you think of this type of format?
Love, The East Fam
This vlog, blog, youtube, family, interview, behind the scenes video was one we've been so excited to share. Let us know what other questions you might have for us!

Watching this felt like watching a train wreck you can’t look away from. Made me sad. I understand that not all moments are rainbows, and some are raw and gritty. But this was very uncomfortable to watch and I got nothing out of it. I am 32, and have earned unfathomable lessons, wisdom and pieces of advice that definitely surmount the beauty rituals. Some of it seemed to just lull. Andrew was speaking from the heart and you just kind of mocked him. Also, was very distracted by the eating. Aaaand the minute she mentioned us getting a nutritionist I knew we come from totally different worlds, heh. Between the seating arrangement, styrofoam sounds and constant passive aggressive tone it wasn’t great. Hope Shawn is ok. ❤ ✌🏻

I saw a perspective: "Once you start counting in reverse the number of Christmas, Thanksgiving, Holi, birthdays you have, it really puts a perspective on how many finite chances you may have to spend quality time with people that matter the most". People and memories over things and validation is an uncomfortable but very rewarding transition.

I love the candor and speakeasy nature of the video. It's very comforting to see two accomplished individuals be so grounded and "real" in their answers and interactions. Definitely a couple to share a meal and beer with. As a 37 year old first generation immigrant (immigrated in my teens), many of your answers and reflections deeply resonated with me. My single most important advice that I would give: Pray before you eat (not to be religious, that is a plus) but to be thankful and grateful for the many things that I/we take for granted. Conscious gratitude is a great counterbalance to many of life's distractions (e.g envy, insecurity, jealousy)

Didn’t love this format to be honest. You said you wanted to make a somber video but it seems like that just goes against who you guys are naturally. Once Andrew started being a little more extra it felt much more like you. My favorite part of your videos is all of the natural laughs and giggles and it felt like you were purposely working in opposition of that to achieve a specific tone so it felt a little awkward.

These comments are a trip. Some of you want perfection videos. The edited ones we see all the time from couples portraying perfect relationships & no sarcasm & rolling of the eyes or what a real family is about in real life. This video was obviously real & unedited. THINK! And be understanding

Eating sounds made this difficult to focus on your words. Not a fan of this style. My advice would be …..1. develop hobbies and friendships; your career should not be your whole life. 2. Be savvy with money management, investments, saving and spend wisely. 3. Travel! Learn about the world and other people ….. be curious and open minded. 4. Never stop learning! 5. Be kind and refrain from judging others. You have no idea what someone else is going through. Someone else’s behaviour is not always about you. Don’t take everything so personally.

What a very uncomfortable video, why are we eating? This is not good Content AT ALL! I wonder at what point in Shawn’s life she’s gonna realize how badly she treat’s her husband, or in what video is it gonna click for her. It’s not funny! It’s very cringy! This should be a serious video and she’s talking about washing her face wash, sunscreen and working out. I’m so confused she’s Telling people to go to the Dr/Dentist, such a secret sister to Kate from (John and Kate plus 8) It may take her until she’s 40 (hopefully not) to realize what’s going on, but she will at one point realize. This woman is a roller coaster of personalities. When she has a husband that is just 100% himself at all times. I sincerely use to brush her off but through the years it’s gotten out of hand.

Love the video & the style, and great advice 🥰 52 here. My main advice: Don't rush into things so much (ties into the rest). Take a gap year after high school & travel or work & think hard about what direction you want your life to take you. Some experiences can wait. Be more selective with friends & relationships. Get a handle on your finances & make smart decisions. Make sure you're choosing things for yourself & not others; also, worry less about what others think; & still be kind & thoughtful with your words & actions. Lastly, be kind to your body, to avoid pain later on.

Wow, who knew Shawn could be such a.... well...the first thought is snippity snot. I have never seen this side of her and for me, it is not a good look on her. Where is the sweet respectful Shawn I know and love? I had to stop watching just a few minutes in. The way she treated Andrew made me cringe at times. I have always heard, if someone acts like this in 'public' just imagine how they act behind closed doors. For Andrew, I hope this is not the case. Her constant snippy attitude, raising her eyebrows and the frowned up eyebrows while saying "hey, do better" like he is a child was a bit uncomfortable to watch for me. Just how far above your husband do you think you are Shawn because from this video, for me, you seem to think you are the better of the two. I would never speak to my husband like that. Add on top of that, slurping spaghetti and talking with a mouth full was, sort of like Shawn was talking about not washing your face before bed "gross, have more respect for yourself." The "find yourself a nice man that treats you well" I guess was a practice what your preach moment for me. You should do the same and treat that "nice man" well in return. I just clicked pause, going to make this comment and move right along to another channel because i no longer like what I am seeing on this one. I guess many others feel the same based on comments and 35,000 + views with only 1.2K likes. I wish you both the best going forward.

Its absolutely amazing to see you learning this at a young age and even though busy, you prioritize your kids, yet do allow self care for each other. I wish more young people would do this. My advice to my 20 yr old self and the advice I give my kids now at 22, 17, and even 12 is save money!! Learn how to really budget your money well and make sure you’re setting aside money in a savings account!! Advice I wish I had listened to when my parents were telling me. Also, living paycheck to paycheck is extremely stressful and very hard to get ahead that way because there’s always something that comes up. The one thing I am happy my husband and I don’t have are credit cards or credit card debt because honestly we wouldn’t be able to afford an extra payment each month. 💜

I think what Andrew means is if you don't feel at home (like a good vibe in something you are doing repeatedly) that it may be something to move on from because it isn't something healthy for you. This doesn't mean to not stop trying new things though and push yourself outside your comfort zone. I know we are all looking from the outside in but I think you both are growing and maturing and both of your experiences should be respected.

I think the advice was great. As far as the style, I would like it occasionally, but I wouldn't want to watch it all the time. I can appreciate the stripped down authenticity, but I found myself feeling kind of bored and skipping around a bit and not smiling as much. I would say I like it for the podcast, not so much for the channel. Also, I'm curious about the name change, I liked The East Fam! But, hey, this is your life, if this feels better for you and your family in this season, please do it with all your heart and don't worry about what others think!

I thought the normal videos were chaotic 😂 Do what’s easiest on you, even if your viewership shifts. I respect the low dopamine thing, but I strongly prefer videos that aren’t as chaotic (though informal is still great). I have enough chaos everywhere else so I don't need or want it on youtube

Study nutrition and get a nutritionist… or formal name “Dietitian” is the best advice!!! 👏👏👏 I’m not biased at all being a Dietitian 😜❤

I like the new style…more real. Advice I would give myself is be more compassionate with yourself, do your best you can, learn to always keep learning, and stop more often to smell the roses. Less is more.

Trust the lord with all of your heart and he will guide you. Hold tight to your family they want what is best for you. Love and I courage the young ones and let them know how important they are. Don’t let your husband drive to work tired so your son will know his dad without me having to tell how amazing he was. Fight harder for the right things in your life. Don’t be afraid to let someone know if they hurt you. Last one know you are stronger then you think
