I don't want to make people too disappointed, but Rainbow Wing and Silver Wing are actually called "Rainbow Feather" and "Silver Feather" in Japanese from the very beginning. It's simply a localized name change actually.

That's correct. The Rainbow Feather in Japanese is 虹色の羽根 Niji-iro no Hane, where 羽根 hane means feather or plume (a feather as detached from a wing) but it is a homophone of 羽 hane, which usually means feather but can also mean wing (especially that of insects). Because in Gen 2 the name was rendered without kanji (にじいろのはね), that nuance was lost in translation, so the translators back then would've thought it meant "Rainbow Wing". It probably stuck for so long in English because it sounds poetic? Idk

I remember the infrared sensor. You do not only get items for your bedroom, you also get your friend's current team for battles in the basement of this one building in Viridian City. It replaces the default trainer with the Typhlosion, Feraligatr and Meganium.

As a kid, me and my kid neighbour used to use the Gen 2 IR sensor to get new items all the time. It was a pretty cool way to get new items without needing the link cable.

The rareberries existed as early as gen 3. The thing is, that they are exclusive to the e-Reader, where you scanned a card of one of the berries into your game to receive it. That's at least the abridged version of the story.

Pretty much all the infrared mystery gift decorations in Gen 2 were listed fully in just about every strategy guide I read for those games. Just because I couldn't get them, doesn't mean I didn't know about them.

Brick piece was easy to transfer with Stadium 2 and some transfer paks... I used to trade pikachu from yellow to crystal for light orbs. Edit: Stadium 2 will let you mystery trade as well. FUN FACT: using stadium 2, a transfer pak, and a N64 game shark was how I was able to get my first Mew on pokemon yellow.

My friend and I made it a point to meet every morning before school just to trade mystery gifts using the sensor when we were in our freshman year of high school. It's also funny because we didn't know about shiny Pokemon at the time, and he was telling me how he encountered a weird-colored Pokemon but lost it because he KO'd it. What if every Gen introduced 1,000 unique species(even cut designs like Gorochu)? With the ability to catch multiple mons at once? With older games giving us Exps and level ups by catching? Had there not been any memory limitations or time constraints. With plenty of mons for every Type like Ghost and Dragon(even in Gens 1 & 2)? But every Pokedex only had 100-entry limit so every player had a unique personal collection? While trading mons also trade Dex entries? And Dex completion rewards from the Professors are Event Items, accessible to new areas, and catchable Mythicals? How'd the Pokemon franchise have been like? How well would it have been recieved?

I know that there is an insane amount of items that are or were still in the games that were basically copied and pasted from one game to another. Then you have lots of programming optimization that never happened though it could easily have been done. I will also say that the mail system was used to execute code in some of the games. Brick pices actually did give a bonus to the move brick break. There were also some items that was in Pokemon up to gen 3 and bits of code can be found in other games. The items are terrasuma, and terrafirma, bubbling water. The item did something that your Pokemon stats on a permanent basis. I don't know what exactly was done but it seemed like terrafirma helped with physical attacks, terrasuma helped with nonphysical attacks and the bubbling water helped with defense. This information I got from using them in the games and they seemed to be both a battle item and an outside battle item.

Okay I am Finnish so the games got here later than to you fancy US folks. There were so damn many unofficial strategy guides in the magazine section of super markets explaining us Finnish kids(who back then weren't fluent in English) how shit worked. I bought ALL OF THEM. I was obsessed. I bought every damn game magazine with even a picture of a pokemon. Some writers got super into it too and translated Japanese from pixelated early game footage of Gold and Silver. It was pretty cool to know that there was going to be a pkmn named Kireihana. It seems a bit silly for you to talk about how kids didn't have two Gameboys or games or such. Some people had friends. Not me tho but still.

Loved this video! Been a fan since Indigo League and first game was Ruby/Sapphire so very rare for me to learn new facts about these games. I have a big question tho🤔 Are any of these events, items or Pokemon available in the Digital Gameboy versions on the 3DS?? I have Crystal and Red/Yellow on there, so I immediately thought what if there is any way to obtain any of the Pokemon or things you mentioned in the video thru the 3DS versions? Someone might have to hack or glitch those games but I wonder if there is still any left over code or something for any of these in those versions of the game!? Been a big fan of you man! For Hideko & Yukito, man, those names are way better in English than in Spanish I don't know why, but Spain loves to give sometimes some ridiculous names to characters (not always, but so many times) They are called "Eladia y Nevesio" if I'm not wrong 1. It doesn't sound Japanese nor anything quite Asian, those are Spanish names, and part of the ugliest Spanish names, like people try to avoid names like Gertrud, but maybe that's why they chose it, as those are the ugly names that people loved like 70 years ago 2. It sounds like "hay helado en la nevera" (there's ice cream in the fridge)

I don't think you realise how worthless the Brick Piece it. It sells for 25 "poke dollars". When you phrase it that way, it makes it sound like it has some value. But the Pokemon world uses yen. So it sells for 25 yen. Which means the item is worth 16 cents. It's so worthless it's sad.

Like a majority of people, nowhere near any other pokemon players. Or if it was like my luck, the other kids didn't want to associate with him. I was disabled so all the kids in my school were convinced if they got near me they'd 'catch it', and ignored me/berated me for daring to speak or associate with them in anyway. I never had anyone to trade with until wifi trades became a thing, like a majority of people who also play, that I know. Unless you were lucky, in a city, or actually had friends, you were SOL getting any trades of ANY kind for the GBA/GB games, even if you had a link cable.
