Tip I) Must be worn BEFORE you exit your vehicle. Tip 2) Warning triangle at 50m - not applicable on motorways as too dangerous. Tip 6) "Truck" roads can now be 80kph or 90kph depending on the department you are driving in. More 30kph and 20kph zones are appearing but are well signposted.

Like how you have to have a uk sticker so the authorities can pick on you
@doughunt9621 Жыл бұрын
Some clarification as at least 3 points are not entirely correct. Point 4. You do not necessarily need beam benders or stickers on your UK car. Firstly the law is not to dazzle and stickers are not the only way to achieve this. Many British cars have flat beam dip lights, and as such the beams do not dazzle oncoming cars. Check whether your car has flat beams. Do not assume that because a sticker manufacturer says your car needs them that it is true. Many newer cars have lghts that can be adjusted in the menus. Look for left-sde driving or right-side driving in the menus. Point 6. Although many trunk roads have a 80kph limit, this is not universally true. Many trunk roads to the south-east if Riems have a 90kph limit. This may be true of other areas as well. Point 19. Although the majority of Autoroutes have tolls, it isn't universally true. The A25 from Dunkirk to Lille is free.

Point 4. If you are in a crash and the other driver says you dazzled me you can't prove you didn't without benders

So out of date! Most cars now have LED lights so unable to replace at the roadside. Most cars with LED lights can be set to driving on the right in the settings so no deflector needed.

I know the French want us to do this but in my time of going back and forth through france me nor my mates do this . I understand others won’t agree but if the uk ain’t doing this and deems it unnecessary then 9/10 it is unnecessary so I don’t carry extra bulbs high vis or triangles.

Americans should be extremely careful with the use of "gasoil". They use the same word for two-stroke petrol with oil. You will often see this on Briggs and Stratton generators. Don't go putting diesel in them.

@@emorider6804 Hi I am French and it depends on what you come here for? I think if it’s just vacation you can use your permit but you have to officially translate it to French. So you need your original one AND the translation with you OR you get the international permit. Obviously, you can only drive here if you are 18, didn’t get suspended in your country, etc. if you stay longer, after a year you can just switch it to a french driving license. Also if you passed you permit with an auto car, you can only drive an automatic car and not a manual. 🙂

So much of this is just wrong , I assume you are copying incorrectly from a book. If you are a foreign driver in France no police will expect you to have a triangle , yellow vests or bulbs etc., Nor A pollution sticker , you can only get from the ministry with a French registered car.😀 Motorways , autoroutes , are not 130 kph, only on paying tolls ones. But the really important things are , 1 Speed . There is a scale of speed , over a certain speed limit you will NOT be allowed to drive until you appear in court. Because this is not always possible for a foreigner the police might wave this with discretion but the fine will be heavy in cash. 2 .Speed again. If your speed is highly excessive , i.e. double , your car WILL be confiscated. No exception. This happens to unfortunates who ae rushing for the ferry. Be warned , I've seen it. I remember a youth driving daddy's BMW in tears. 😰Just drive to get the next ferry. I don't have the limits to hand. 3 Demon drink. If you are caught with one glass of wine you will be fined and sit in you car till the limit has gone down. Anything over you will not be allowed to drive. So hopefully the misses is sober. 4 , In towns , especially small towns , give way on the right , unless otherwise stated. This is a big cause of accidents for foreigners. This means that a car will emerge even from a small side road or lane in font of you , the driver will often be looking to her right. Usually a woman. They have right of way , although younger drivers may stop for you knowingly , the older wont. Cest la France Monsieur Anglais. The sign with the name of the town is the beginning of the 50 limit. 4. Round a bouts . Oh dear. Entering a round point signal left , even if going straight ahead. At the exit signal right. However , be warned , if you do not signal it means you are giving way on the right to those cars entering from the right . Don't expect all the French drivers to obey this , they are often too lazy to signal , and when they do it is often wrong. You will aways see an accident at the Arc de Triumph , for example, at rush hour. There is no lane discipline , expect to be cut up from left and right when turning. . Im serious. Best and safest to ALWAYS signal left. 5. You MUST have all your documents with you , driving licence , car registration document , carte identity passport , insurance . These of course will be English documents or whatever , it is not necessary to translate. Carry them in your car BUT DO NOT LEAVE THEM IN YOUR CAR. They are a big target for thieves who will break into cars to get them . If they take these your holiday is ruined. The fine for EACH ONE you do not have used to be 3oo euros. 6. Disabled . Don't park in a disabled bay , EVEN in the supermarket. Heavy fine or tow away. 7. If you do have an accident don't expect the police to be on your side , Waterloo and all that. Unless of course the offender is drunk. French cars carry an insurance form that is filled in and signed by each driver , this can mean admitting liability unlike the UK. If it is your fault ie , not giving way , and you refuse to admit it , this is an offence. 8. Some foreign countries may not be allowed to drive in France without taking a French test . Check with the embassy. i.e. Omanis are banned in the UK , Oman retaliated.😀 9. New cars mcs don't need blinked headlights. Older vehicles just put insulation tape on them to blot out deflection to the right. Don't be daunted by this , main difficulty is to remember to give way on the right . I've lived a long time in France.

The A75 is free and yet it has 130 kph speed limit. Basically the default speed limits for motorways are 130/110 on rural areas and 110/100 on urban areas. Being toll roads or not isn't a condition for speed limits, but rather the road conditions and traffic flow.
