20 Volt DeWALT Chainsaw For The Small Homestead???

Trying out my new 20 volt DeWalt chainsaw to cut up some downed limbs and reviewing whether or not these battery operated tools can stand up to the work load on our backyard homestead.

Thats an interesting alteration! SO far the smaller bar has covered all that I need it to do, but the 14 inch bar would open up some options. Thanks for sharing!

go with the 16"it reduces run time but if a guy needs a deeper cut...

I have owned my DeWalt chainsaw and use it both North and South. I've cut Palm, walnut, and other types of tree limbs and it works flawlessly. The walnut was up to 14" diameter of fallen limbs from a storm and it worked just fine. And, it is easier to use than my hard to start 16" gas powered chainsaw. Highly recommend!

Just saw your comment from a while ago and wanted to say thanks for watching. I still use mine around the house as well for our white oak and pecan trees. Super easy to use and convenient for quick jobs that you don't want to break out a big 2 stroke and make a bunch of noise.

My neighbor just whined I needed to get rid of a couple trees that had grow out over their property. Got a quote to cut and remove the trees(8-10 inched in diameter) for over $1K and would have to wait like 2 months. Since I already had a few 20v Dewalt tools, I picked up the 12" chainsaw at Ace for 159. I gotta say this thing is amazing. I cut down and cut up both trees in about an hour on 2 2AH batteries.

Yeah I've been very impressed with its ability. Obviously a gas powered saw with a 36 inch bar would be quicker and more powerful, but for odd jobs around the yard and if you're already committed to the DeWalt platform this is a great little saw.

Hi just seen your video. You used bar oil and motor oil in this? I have the pole saw and use bar oil in it-like it a lot but does leak oil! Thinking of getting one of these saws now for around the house? Thank you and have a good night

I used the Bar and Chain Oil that came with it in the box. Still using the saw and the pole saw without any issues so far. They are definitely for small around the house jobs, but super convenient and easy to use. Thank you for watching!

Mine only lasted 3 years of moderate use before motor quit, expected better of Dewalt. Might try an Ego next

Thats unfortunate. I've other tools that have done that and when I looked into their specs I found that they were only made for a certain amount of use before they tapped out. Really hoping thats not the case with this chainsaw.

So $50 a year. That might be worth it. It depends on what was done and what was saved. If I can cut 3 cords of wood in those 3 years it would save me $900 for heat.

I agree! Commited to the 20volt platform so wanted to see how well the smaller saw would perform.

The big 60V packs can wake up your 20V tools too. Whenever my 20V impact struggles I grab a 9ah 60V. They're still only outputting "20V", but more cells = more Amps

Definitely not as powerful as the gas powered alternatives, but for small properties, convenience and ease of handling it did its job well.
