TOO MUCH focus on safety creates a society full of cowards and depression and anxiety... and eventually a whole generation of shut-ins who can't possibly function outside of their sterile little bubbles... I've raced motorcycles... AND people die. It sucks, but such is life. The whole value to it is that one day, it's OVER and you don't get to know exactly when that is or how long you've got until you're on "short time"... and by then, it's too late to do much about it. Yeah, there's no sense in making it more dangerous than it has to be, but the actual "real life" risk posed to other competitors was relatively minor... A year just seems like a whole lot of wasted time over no more than that. ;o)

It was a hap-hazard POTENTIAL projectile at the very worst... AND with the kinds of safety gear involved in racing cars, probably NOT a particularly dangerous one at that... Most of the "hazard" would be the drivers' dubious reactions to a spectacle... should it have even been hit. ;o)

This doesn't look like a large group of crows that is trying not to do something. Nor is it attempted murder, of you think about it. Sure, they could've gone down easy, if they were your average rider. But they do this professionally. And I'm sure the good ones expect to go down every now and again, and expect that things are going to go south suddenly - and they'll have to deal with that. 13 at least rides enough to know the limits of this type of shenanigan, so knows when to stop being a dick. Final point: he deserved exactly what he got. Banned for 3 races, and now no team on that league wants him. So he had to drop a league down.
