Great list! Saw half, was on the fence for the others. I was going to see The Killing, but I need the right mood. Pan's Labyrinth was my first G. Del Torro's movie. Downside: none of his other movies comes close. Upside: it's a lot of great movies in one. You can keep on going back to it. Lobster is a great recommendation and I think it's a must watch. Love the way you present these movies.I tend to go into watching with just the right expectation and enjoy more movies more. Thank you Darren! And thank you patreons!

Great movie list and the editing and music of your video is awesome too. I've watched all in the Top 10, except for The Killing of a Sacred Deer, which looks amazing. That being said, Enemy is a gem of a movie, and I couldn't agree more on how it is like a puzzle and you spend days later on still thinking about it. Do you have a list of movies like this? Some of my favorites in that "puzzle" category would be Mulholland Dr., Arrival, Lost Highway, Inception. Cheers!
@roel.vinckens4 жыл бұрын
Cheers? Yeah... Woody Harrelson is quit puzzling in that! I remember the heated discussions in film school when Lost Highway came out. Everybody loved it, no-one saw the same movie. It even changes when you see it again. And that soundtrack! Mr. Eddie's theme!

Ha, I just watched "Lockout" last night. I enjoyed it but they overdid the one-liners. Still, a good watch. I watched "The Invitation" at your suggestion and is quite enjoyable too. I added "The Wicker Man," "Freaks," and "Girl on the Third Floor." Let's see what happens there. Oh, and I've been on a Scott Adkins kick since you've recommended so many of his movies. So far, I've liked what I've seen. Thanks for doing this. Your efforts are truly appreciated.

Absolutely my favorite list you’ve ever done!! Many I’ve seen, loved and recommended myself- and others I absolutely cannot wait to see!! I know you recently talked about the Lighthouse but man is that a Weird movie, as on par with David Lynch’s Eraserhead! Too bad not at least an honorable mention! As always thanks, man, I’m sure I will update a couple new favorites after I watch some great sounding picks- The Lobster first up! (Gotta say, was so blown away a while back watching The Invitation, the way grief warps you and changes your thinking, and I’m talking about severe, seeing your child die grief that destroys marriages and vital parts of yourself that just makes something like a dinner party with an ex feel odd, off kilter, then feel stupid, they just NAIL it perfectly excellent pick)

OMG I've just watched this video of the back off what's coming in Jan 2021 and you have managed to highlight 3 of my most favourite movies. The circle (what a great surprise this movie was, I couldn't stop watching it), Mr Right (whoever thought dating could be so wrong and so right at the same time), and also my #no. 1 Pan's labyrinth (the two intertwined stories are you just the most superb film making ever undertaken). I have to say it again, the way you review movies is so difficult, almost impossible, yet you pull it off fantastically. You show just enough clips, describe the plot without spoiling the movie and somehow still leave it up to me because you never directly give your opinion. That is not easy to do. Very well done and your selections are almost dead on perfect picks. I hope you continue. I would like to maybe see some tubi reviews, I realize your time is limited as it is, but if you could squeeze a few in once in a while that would be great. Keep up the good work. Best channel on KZbin.

I’ve seen a couple of these. I honestly think I saw them on other lists of yours. I particularly liked Velvet Buzzsaw (Cam and Enemy were also good). I’ve had a few in my queue for awhile now, also, I’m sure from past lists - Snowpiercer, The Lobster, The Wicker Man, & A Sacred Deer. And, of course, I added a few more. I decided it was time to check one off the list. So I just finished A Sacred Deer. You. Weren’t. Kidding. It starts off odd. And it could lose people quickly. Why are they talking to each other like that? Did they just tell that to basically a stranger? But because I’m odd, it actually kept my interest. And then at 50 minutes. Welcome to Weird Town. You may think you know where it’s going, but you probably don’t. And even if you have an idea (you read the synopsis before watching - which I would advise against, just to make it that much more interesting) it still subverts your expectations. Great movie. Great list.

Can’t help but feel this is a pure DVD list. Snowpiercer, the platform, lobster, pans... dang maybe I just like wired but this was a great list per the title... as always! Oh sound and fury was awesome! You should Rec some short flims again, I thought that was cool and really expanded the mind.

The Invitation (#4 on the list) is legit one of my favorite movies. I rave about it to everyone. It's part drama, part suspense, SO heavily character driven, and ultimately about loss and what happens to the grieving people left behind. It's really brilliantly written, brilliantly acted, and has such a good ending. You'll absolutely go on the full roller coaster of emotions along with the main character, one minute deeply suspicious of the motivations of the people around him and the next fully realizing it's just because he can't believe his ex-wife is processing grief so differently than he is, and so on. Note that it's a pretty sad movie, so be prepared for heavy topics.
@derekdwhite2 жыл бұрын
@@monikawachnik8425 perhaps you've never experienced grief on that level? it's a character movie about loss and grief more than it's a suspense, far creepier/uneasy-feeling than actually scary. admittedly not for everyone.

Seen 9 of these, will eventually see some of the rest. "The Killing of a Sacred Deer" was not only weird, but also so dark and heavy in an unexpected way. "Snowpiercer" is an almost timeless gem, easily re-watchable, also pretty dark. "Velvet Buzzsaw" was weird, but even more snide and hilarious to me. "Freaks" was a tad "weird", but definitely well done, I enjoyed the slow ride. I agree with the comparisons of (most) of the "X-men" films with "Code 8" because it's just better, without question. No expectedly cheesy lines or acting, awful costumes, or boring displays/use of powers. Thanks for clearing up the performance issue with the lead in "Girl on the Third Floor". I had no idea he was a former wrestler, and that perfectly explains the agony I experienced. Was like watching paint dry while a gross movie played in the background. Never again. Some more honorable mentions imo: Tusk Anon The Ritual Lastly, Sam Rockwell is ALWAYS worth the time!

Darren have you seen the foreign b/w film "The Aerialist" ? It is by far one of the strangest movies ive ever seen! Im a fan of b/w film era, especially horror classics & all Hitchcock productions, as well as the early sci fi/suspense/thriller anthologies. I love your show and find your knowledge of films, genres actors, directorial styles etc... plus your opinions to be very impressive. You have an interest & respect for the industry that i consider to be refreshing in a young man! Thanx for your hard work on this channel😊

I made a mistake; the title of the film is The Aerial. It is a 2007 Argentinian production avail on Netflix.

Interesting list. I've seen 2. Lockout is ok, not great, if you have nothing else to watch. Probably a 3 strong drink move. One before, 2 during. Snowpiercer is better. I enjoyed it probably a 2 drink movie, during. Speaking of Bruce Campbell we need more episodes of Ash vs The Evil Dead.
