note Technically, the Persian word for "sitar" is "سئتار" (sitaar), but the design (and name) came from an earlier instrument called a سهتار (seh-taar, "3 strings") which is the term I chose to use here

Hindi is spoken across northern India and is mutually intelligible with Urdu, the national language of Pakistan. Persian, also known as Farsi, is spoken in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. During the Mughal Empire in India (1526-1857), Persian was esteemed as the language of high culture and exerted a huge influence on Indian languages. All of the words in this video are ones that originally came from Persian and were borrowed into Hindi/Urdu under the Mughals
