I worked for company that supplied their technicians with Ford Rangers powers by the 3.0 Liter Vulcan V6's. My previous employer like the Ford Taurus with the same engine. I don't recall a single engine failure.
@dmandman9
@dmandman9 4 ай бұрын
The ONLY weakness I’ve seen was that some of the ranger 3.0’s had premature valve guide wear. But it wasn’t that frequent. And only was a problem for a couple of year models. Also, head replacement was fairly simple if it did occur. But most of the time the engines outlasted the body
@builttobeat2741
@builttobeat2741 4 ай бұрын
There were 2 different 3.0l v6s. The ranger had the better one ohv. The other one was a dohc v6, more power but much less reliable. I worked for a Ford dealership around that time.
@dmandman9

@@builttobeat2741 Yes. The ohv 3.0 began its life in the 1986 Taurus and was later used in the ranger . Whereas the DOHC 3.0 began its life in the 1996 Taurus.. it was a good engine too. But the ohv was simpler, and even tougher.

The 2.0l coolant leak was a 2017-2019 issue due to the change in design on the coolant passeges. The 2.0l before 2.0l were somewhat solid but they still had carbon buildup on the valves due to direct injection which is common with any direct injected engine. The most reliable was the 2.5l na i4 and the least reliable were the Ecoboost 1.5l and 1.6l i4's

I don't see mention of the 1.6L inline 4 used in the Ford Escort. They became notorious for coolant consumption. There was never anything on the ground. Coolant was going out the tailpipe. Required cylinder head replacement. Head casting was cracked between intake and exhaust valves. Always cylinder #3. I repaired many of them. Otherwise a good runner.
