I once had a 72 Gran Torino. 351-C 2bbl. It was surprisingly quick. Never had any significant engine problems.

The 302 is one of the worst? I had one that went 300,000 miles in a Mercury Marquis. The best car I ever owned. It was driven by my wife and me for 16 years and had to put it in the shop only twice.

I've had 2 5.4 L that made it over 300,000 with no problems. I have a old Crown Vic with the 4.6 with close to 500,000 on it now other than routine maintenace it hasn't missed a beat

I owned a 1990 Lincoln Continental with a 3.8L and a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis with the 4.6L. both these cars went over 200000 miles. Always serviced on time. Never had a problem with the engines. Gteat cars.

I worked for company that supplied their technicians with Ford Rangers powers by the 3.0 Liter Vulcan V6's. My previous employer like the Ford Taurus with the same engine. I don't recall a single engine failure.

The ONLY weakness I’ve seen was that some of the ranger 3.0’s had premature valve guide wear. But it wasn’t that frequent. And only was a problem for a couple of year models. Also, head replacement was fairly simple if it did occur. But most of the time the engines outlasted the body

There were 2 different 3.0l v6s. The ranger had the better one ohv. The other one was a dohc v6, more power but much less reliable. I worked for a Ford dealership around that time.

@@builttobeat2741 Yes. The ohv 3.0 began its life in the 1986 Taurus and was later used in the ranger . Whereas the DOHC 3.0 began its life in the 1996 Taurus.. it was a good engine too. But the ohv was simpler, and even tougher.

Been driving Fords since the 70's and owned several cars and trucks with these engines. Never had any of the problems mentioned in this video. I usually ran my vehicles well over 200k.

I blew 3 plugs in my 98 Econoline , besides that it has 264,000 and still runs good . Thank God it is a 2 valve .

Some of the best ford engines was built in the 1960 and continued in the 90’s was the 300 inline 6 cylinder and the 390 FE was another the 7.3 power stroke engine is a good engine and the 302 and 289 was a decent engine for the most part the old 351 Cleveland was pretty good as well as the older 352 FE

I’ve owned two 5.4 Tritons in two F-150s. Never had a single problem with either. Best and most reliable vehicles I’ve ever owned. Religious oil changes and they are super reliable.

Until the timing system goes & grenades the engine. The timing chain tensioner has a tendency to go, which causes low oil pressure which grenades the engine.

Many of these engines are far from the worst engines. Some are the worst. But. Some of these engines had excellent reputation . The problems were infrequent and relatively minor with some lasting well in exess of 200,000 miles.

I was in the ford area when they towed a 6.0 in which shutoff in the middle of the 91 frwy in California and the customer cussed out the service manager and said he’d never own another ford

You neglected to mention the 1968 to 1975 360 cu. in. V8. Oil leaks and low power output made it a dog of an egine. Ford's 302 put out more horspower.

The 2.0l coolant leak was a 2017-2019 issue due to the change in design on the coolant passeges. The 2.0l before 2.0l were somewhat solid but they still had carbon buildup on the valves due to direct injection which is common with any direct injected engine. The most reliable was the 2.5l na i4 and the least reliable were the Ecoboost 1.5l and 1.6l i4's

I have a '05 Crown Vic Interceptor with the 4.6. for me it has been very good to me. Other than a K&N drop in air cleaner it's bone stock. Keep good oil and a good filter (Motorcraft FL 820 S) it runs great. 80mph on the interstate is the sweet spot. Love that car.

I have an 06 f150 4.6 over 300,000k and still running great, did have to do the manifold gasket, 2 batteries and the alternator that's it period. Come on that's great in my book.

I don't see mention of the 1.6L inline 4 used in the Ford Escort. They became notorious for coolant consumption. There was never anything on the ground. Coolant was going out the tailpipe. Required cylinder head replacement. Head casting was cracked between intake and exhaust valves. Always cylinder #3. I repaired many of them. Otherwise a good runner.

My older sister used to have a 2001 Ford Escort but it had an inline 4cyl engine and 5 speed manual transmission. It was still running good when it was sold in 2011. IIRC she was getting 40 mpg on the highway.

4.6L spark plug ejection usually happened after replacement. I found the plugs want to cross thread during replacement.
