302 and 351W are considered to be among the worst engines Ford made? That's news to many people 😅

I once had a 72 Gran Torino. 351-C 2bbl. It was surprisingly quick. Never had any significant engine problems.

@@mylanmiller9656 mine was a D0TE very forgiving engine. It went through 2 cabs in the 6-7 years I drove it. 2 t/c sets, a starter and distributor

I worked for company that supplied their technicians with Ford Rangers powers by the 3.0 Liter Vulcan V6's. My previous employer like the Ford Taurus with the same engine. I don't recall a single engine failure.
@dmandman9

The ONLY weakness I’ve seen was that some of the ranger 3.0’s had premature valve guide wear. But it wasn’t that frequent. And only was a problem for a couple of year models. Also, head replacement was fairly simple if it did occur. But most of the time the engines outlasted the body

There were 2 different 3.0l v6s. The ranger had the better one ohv. The other one was a dohc v6, more power but much less reliable. I worked for a Ford dealership around that time.
@dmandman9
@dmandman9 3 күн бұрын
@@builttobeat2741 Yes. The ohv 3.0 began its life in the 1986 Taurus and was later used in the ranger . Whereas the DOHC 3.0 began its life in the 1996 Taurus.. it was a good engine too. But the ohv was simpler, and even tougher.

@@builttobeat2741 don't forget the 3.0l SHO V6 also, that's a great running engine.

I don't see mention of the 1.6L inline 4 used in the Ford Escort. They became notorious for coolant consumption. There was never anything on the ground. Coolant was going out the tailpipe. Required cylinder head replacement. Head casting was cracked between intake and exhaust valves. Always cylinder #3. I repaired many of them. Otherwise a good runner.

They were too busy criticizing several of the most reliable engines such as the 2V 4.6, the Vulcan 3.0 , and the 2.3 used in the pinto and Ranger.

Many of these engines are far from the worst engines. Some are the worst. But. Some of these engines had excellent reputation . The problems were infrequent and relatively minor with some lasting well in exess of 200,000 miles.

Until the timing system goes & grenades the engine. The timing chain tensioner has a tendency to go, which causes low oil pressure which grenades the engine.
