I was thinking... How many tools could a plumber have? I stand corrected. It seems like in any trade nowadays, customers will be pissed about how much a 'quick job' costs. This is why. Jobs that used to take hours, now take minutes, but it takes a huge investment to do that. At the end of the day, they need to understand that they still get what they paid for and the jobs done. In most cases, with far less inconvenience to them.

Right, and if someone complains that it got done fast then the question would be, if the flat rate is so much would you like me to keep the water off for another 1 to 2hours like it use to or would you like to use your water and I get out of your personal space and on to another home owner in need?

A skill isn’t ever meant to be based off hourly. Do dentist charge you per hour? A doctor charging by the hour? People don’t usually say hey take longer on my root canal or poke me some more😂😂😂

How many tools could a plumber need ? Huh....plumbers honestly always had to have more tools then any other trade by far..we just don't do one thing with one material never have..you have gas.. water lines.. drainage.. sewer & water...under grounds.. service..roughs.. trims boilers.. heaters..softeners..filtration wells..ect..all require certain tools..and now especially that u have all the different things to do. U have all different materials for each one of them as well

Fellow plumber here, the amount of materials and tools you need for this job never ceases to amaze me. Just part of the reason why we charge what we charge. We roll up to your house with 100k worth of tools in the truck easily. Just drowning in tools and wrenches, most underappreciated and difficult of the residential trades.

Nah yall aren’t under appreciated. I’m a tradesman too but in carpentry/locksmithing. I can fix just about anything, but don’t mess with pipes/plumbing issues. I’ll leave it to the pros to work on them and will pay what is needed. 🤝

This has inspired me to get my van into better condition. Im a master plumber who owns my own small business. I have a 2010 chevy express 3/4 ton. I have built in metal shelving and a large pull out draw unit mounted to the floor that opens up in the back. I stay pretty organized but sometimes it gets out of hand. Love the viddeo man. Really cool to see another plumbers van.

Nice brother.. Are you doing service work? What’s the money like?
@sjohnson5813
@sjohnson5813 Ай бұрын
Yes. I do a lot of service work. I built up a pretty large customer base just on word of mouth over the last 5 years. I also do drain cleaning. I get a lot of work from a major property management company in my area. The service and sewer calls are my most consistent work. But I do a lot of residential remodels that pay the bigger checks. I've been plumbing since I was 18, im now 38. I've only owned my business for 6 years, but it's taken me many, many years to get where I am. I am my only employee because I can't find anyone I trust. I have plumber buddies that help on weekends and nights. I make around 120k a year but I work every Saturday and most days work at least 9-12 hours.
@sjohnson5813
@sjohnson5813 Ай бұрын
Don't get me wrong, it's not all long hours. I have important customers to satisfy, but I also take time for myself and my wife and kids. I work a lot of hours but after all, I am my own boss. So, a lot of days, I do not start work until 9, or I will take off early if I have had a fked up day. Also I take long ass vacations in the summer. Usually 12-14 day vacations in summer and 7 day vacations on Thanksgiving so I can go out of state for fam. Its alot of hard work and stress, but I can handle that shit. It's a blessing to be able to be your own boss , make your own schedule, and decide your own pricing. It's all about being an honest tradesman, fair pricing, and having the skills to build close relationships with customers and builders. Word of mouth is honestly the best marketing. Fk paying thousands to get ads. My integrity and hard work speaks for itself. If I can do it, anybody can. Just have to work your ass off and never give up and ALways be honest.

Very nice set up and video. I am not a pro anythingbut, those Milwaukee Twin grips are awesome. Bought the 8" when they came out to keep in my detached garage/shop. Then bought a second 8" to keep in the house because I kept running out o the shop to get them. Now they have the 6" and I am getting those for a small tool kit in my car. I use them more than I ever imagined.

The pack out system is cool but a lot of work! Look how much he has to fight with the lock system to move them. Just to set it at his feet so he can dig through another one or unlock it and have 2 of them at his feet. The dolly they all can go on is cool until you have to go through mud, rain or snow then you wheeling all that right into the customers house. You can put shoe booties on the wheels but they always fall off. As a plumber myself I say have an organized van that you know where things are and you’re good. Go look at what the job is and get the tools you need, no need to drag all that shit in! O ya and no one starts a career at 12 years old man, just say you have 10 years experience lol

I do systainers because I’m a trim carpenter. In my opinion, the packouts are too bulky, there’s too much wasted material on the corners. I know that’s designed for durability, but then you think about how you treat your tools. I’m not letting stuff slide from one end to the other in the back of an empty truck bed. I’m not dropping full boxes of thousands of dollars of tools off of roofs.

Just because a lot of people are retiring and not as many people are joining the trade, that doesn’t mean it’s a “dying” industry. The demand will just be higher. A dying industry would be if automation or AI were taking over the jobs.

As a service plumber, this setup does not work. There's relatively zero stock of material. As a jobbing plumber, this works. Van for tool transport and materials delivered to the site. It's a very nice setup. I just believe it's solely for a jobber. These packouts cannot be brought into a home or apartment for a simple shower body replacement or minor service.
