We went to tour Muddy Fingers Farm -a 20-year old 2.5-acre diverse veggie farm and CSA (Community-supported agriculture) based in Hector, NY. Liz and Matthew had a dream of building their own farm but it took a number of years to get there. Now 20 years into their operation, they have a 75-person CSA, farm stand, and frequent the farmers markets in the area.
Liz and Matthew recently reached out to the community to help fund some low-income CSA shares, so we were able to put some of the funds we set aside for the community and earmark them to the CSA for that purpose, which you'll find out more about in the film. This is all made possible through viewers like you! So thank you, thank you, thank you. This was matched by our partners over @EspomaOrganic (espoma.com), so this is able to fund 10 families' CSA boxes for the whole year.
Find out more about Muddy Fingers Farm and their CSA box program here: muddy-fingers-farm.square.site/ and in this video!

The most significant ecosystem is always financial - fascinating how they have to perpetually adapt and innovate to stay viable.

Bro what? The economy is not an ecosystem, its artificially created and controlled. Its a slave system that rewards those with capitol and punishes those without. These people are not leveraging capitol, therefore they will always be in a perpetual state of falling behind. The system is crap and severely unbalanced.

They have lots of treasures on their place. Admiration galore for their teamwork and their social awareness. These are the folks who keep us alive. Continued success and enjoyment. Thanks everyone for the tour. A farm machine for lying down on the job, is really typical farmer's humor, isnt it? 😂Hope for some moderate magic rainwater for us all. 💧☔🌧️🌨️🌧️🌦️🌧️🌨️☁️💧

You're most welcome. And glad this can maybe serve as some inspiration for you. Thought it was very nice for Liz to mention how she was inspired by another woman who said she started her farm with "$500 and a shovel".

this is cool.. reminiscing me about another organic farm (Ever Green Farm) in the nearby area. Organic farming is tougher than conventional one and i respect the farmers who are feeding us the delicious and nutritious veggies. thanks for the video tour!

To save backs from bending over, use 3 foot raised bed made with railroad ties. keeps your soil warmer, too.

I don’t know if railroad ties are still treated with creosote but I would be concerned about eating produce out of those beds if they are.🌺💚🙃

We have to cover all of our Brassicaceae (Cabbage/kale/broccoli/etc.) in our area of S. Ohio with netting to keep the small white moths/green worms from devouring them over several generations in a season. What is going on in NY? It's hopeless trying to control them with organic sprays and I refuse to use the more commercial varieties. Are these people spraying? Supposedly the moths came here a long time ago?

It stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Single farms or multiple farms group together to offer a box containing produce, eggs, sometimes meat and honey, and sell them in the community as a subscription model. It provides a regular source of income for the farms, and gives the buyer a variety of foods for a better price than, say, buying all the food individually at the farmers market.

Pardon that we didn't further explain CSA, which someone did very well to define below, so I won't do that here; it is something very common here. Typically if I'm reading something and I learn a new word, I'll put the book or magazine down and then go to the dictionary for a definition. Luckily here, you can always pause the video and just google "CSA" or "CSA Farm" and you can get a pretty quick answer. ABL (Always Be Learning). Thanks again and we'll keep acronyms and those topics in mind for future videos to define.

I didn't know what CSA is too. But i just paused video and did google search for a minute or two then resume and enjoy the rest of the video. 😬
