The best way to determine which one you like best is to try them in store. For me, I found the hattefjall most comfortable and ended up buying it. The adjustable seat and the height adjustable back is what makes this perfect for me. The harder seat cushion feels like it provides me more support yet is not uncomfortable. The auto-adjustable design sets the right amount of resistance (for me). Also, it looks and feels the most well made.

@TRD_Mike5 жыл бұрын
@@hailgod1 To be honest, right now I'm considering returning it. I'm 5'11 230lbs. The chair itself is really comfortable. I really like the high back so I can lean all the way back and the headrest is comfortable. The major deal breaker is the arm rests. The height is fine, but because their mounted so far up towards the front of the chair, they push into the side of my legs when sitting. It forces you to sit with your legs in a more closed position. Personally I like sitting more with my legs spread and feet wider apart. After about a half hour sitting in the chair my legs hurt from the armrests digging in, and then I have to consciously make sure I have to sit with my legs closed. Removing the arm rests might be an option for you, but personally I use them all the time and can't take them off. Will probably return the chair and buy a 2nd hand Steelcase Leap.

I'm a Marcus user for over a year now and since the beginning I thought the armrests were a dealbreaker. I removed those within 10 minutes of assembly because they prevented me from getting close enough to my desk without having to lower the chair which I didn't want to do to stay in ergonomic working position. Everything else about the chair is great for me. Depth is just right and so is the height of the headrest and the stiffness of the back mesh. If they made adjustable armrests for it it will be perfect for me.

I had the same issue and also removed the arm rests. I've got the leather version and my ass keeps sliding off the seat, and I do miss the handles to push myself back. And after 3 years the dampner occasionally just falls down, need to contact IKEA for this. And something is squacking when I lean really far back, but I just saw that it's a simple lube fix. I've also replaced the rollers with inliner wheels, which won't mess up the wooden floor we have. The original wheels and the plastic floor mat was not nice.

I spent 2 hours at my IKEA sitting in Markus and Järvjellet. And I was so disappointed.. The Järvjellet has great features, and the backrest with lumbar support and headrest are awesome fo my 186 cm. But that seat is just horrible. Its not only way to short for anyone over 180 cm, but it also is such a thin foam that you basically sit on the wood after just 5 mins. SO I got the Markus and although I don't really like the headrest, as it should better be a neckrest, but pushes your head forward uncomfortably, the seat feels great and the reclinement is pretty good for its price... I just don't get why they couldn't make the Järv a bit better cushioned and give it a tad longer seat, than it would be perfetc for so many people. Such a missed opportunity imo!

Then I watched this video many times over - even when testing the chair right on the spot for the second time :-). Please accept my thanks for doing such valuable and informative videos. As I am 189 cm tall (6ft 3in), Markus fits me perfectly and infinitely better than literally tens of chairs I tried at six specialist furniture stores within the past week (with prices ranging from 200 to 600 USD). Here in the Czech Republic, Markus is favourably priced (3490 CZK/152 USD based on today’s conversion rate) and they provide a 99 CZK/5 USD delivery up to 50 kg per single item (I do not drive). Not that I do not contemplate a Herman Miller chair but for now I am very happy.

Hi David, following your review (and a few others), I bought my Markus from Ikea 29th December 2019 and it has been used almost all day and every day and evening since. Today, 21.1.23 over three years on, I still love it, however, although everything still works as new, it has developed an annoying 'clunk' in the seat mechanism whenever I move slightly. As it is located in an upstairs bedroom used as an office, the clunk is a disturbance to anyone trying to get to sleep in the next bedroom and downstairs. I'm hoping that with my receipt and proof of purchase, I can have the seat mechanism part replaced under Ikea's 10-year guarantee. I'll let you know if they do.

@@bogdanvalentin977 Not in January when I returned it. They couldn't get it to "clunk" when they examined it so, dissappointed, and thinking that it must be fixed, I ended up brining it home again for a second chance. However it got progressively worse so I video recorded the evidence and uploaded it to their customer support chat. They were really helpful ans assured me that if I returned it again that it would certainly be exchanged. I did so on 13.4.23 and they exchanged it without hesitation. The new one is perfect and the guarantee on this one runs until 2029. I am thrilled with Ikea's customer service policy on the Markus. You can't beat it! Happy customer!

I tried the Jarvfjallet for about a month and compared to a normal office chair, the seat cushion is incredibly stiff and uncomfortable for long periods of sitting. Granted, we shouldn't be sitting as long as we are but now that we're quarantined and working from home I spend way more time sitting to be comfortable in the Jarvfjallet. I can't recommend it and I would suggest anyone looking for a comfortable chair to simply wait, save more money and buy a chair. This is one of those BIFL (buy it for life) type things and not something to really cheap out on.

@@Le.kine1 it’s even worse. The seat cushion squeaks and constantly comes loose from the base that holds it in place. I’m not the most slender guy but this thing is just not comfortable for long periods. I am already seriously looking at the Herman Miller Aeron. Yes it is a $1200+ chair but if you factor in how much time you sit at a desk and if you value your health and posture, it’s a worthwhile investment.

I used to have Markus and after some years I replaced it with Jarvfjallet. I'm 193cm 103kg (6'4'' ~220lb) normal build. The slimmer back is not an issue at all. Actually the construction of the backrest is main point I upgraded. Markus has it mounted in center, which means after years of use and sitting with feet up it warped a bit. Jarvfjallet mounts the back on sides, which makes it way more sturdy. After a year it's still perfectly symmetrical. Top being slimmer, makes the chair take less space - it doesn't seem like much but makes a difference when space is limited. Also armrests are not a big loop, but C shape, which allows to move the chair to desk further (in my case they go a bit above desk when I'm off the chair).

The JÄRVFJÄLLET is absolutely terrible compared to the MARKUS, especially considering the MARKUS is cheaper. The construction of the base itself is piss-poor; it squeaks and cracks at any little movement after less than a month. The padding is hard as hell and you'll never get used to it. I tried for six months, with four layers of extra padding material and it was still unbearable. The seat constantly creaks when you move your ass forward/back as it slides around in its rails. The lumbar support pushes your lower back away from the mesh supporting your upper back and is thus counterintuitive because it causes all the weight of your back to end up on just your lower back. The head support, regardless of adjustment, is always in the way when you want to sit in a slightly more relaxed position while watching a movie reclined. IKEA actually stopped producing these chairs recently, after less than two years on the market. Even without seat depth, lumbar and headrest adjusment the Markus is a far superior chair. They need to iterate on that chair instead of trying to re-invent the wheel.

@@flowsy5294 Yes. It's much more comfortable. I sat in both at IKEA and found JÄRVFJÄLLET to be slightly more comfortable during a short 5 minute test, and had to buy it as it was the only one in stock. Worst decision of my life. Constant back and ass pain for 6 months. Couldn't do deadlifts at the gym anymore because my lower back was stiff as a rock. Got the Markus now. No back/neck pain, no butt pain and my lower back feels better than it has in a long, long time. Can easily fall asleep in the chair too. Far superior to the rock hard gaming chairs, for sure.

I found Markus lumbar is much more comfortable and softer than JArv. But I hated how hard it is to recline. It require so much strength to push it back,then I have to lean forward to access to the lock so it basically doesn’t work. So for the Jarv I like how I can effortlessly lean back a bit but not too much while have the chair tucked in to allow my body close to the table. But I don’t feel much of the lumbar support and it’s hard I would put a think cushion inbetween. The Hat chair more comfortable than I expected, looks good only thing is missing a head support which I wanted other wise it felt quite supported to have back to back to the chair while tuck close to the table. Buuut IKEA lack of stock for god knows how long I don’t know when I’ll be able to get the Jarv chair

First time I heard the Markus has soft-ish or in any case malleable (because people are triggered by "soft" for poser reasons) and comfortable seat cushion. If I had known that before... Because this and the low, unadjustable armrests, followed by the low lumbar support, were the main reasons for me never quite making the jump, although I probably would have been much happier with it than with other trash. I had always heard that it was super-hard, but the direct comparison says a lot.
