$200 RUSH MOTOR SWAP - 2.5L NC MX5 (Mazda Miata)

With 10 days until our next track event, disaster struck and we found ourselves in need of a new motor. We got to work and swapped a $200 2.5L motor ($200 after a partial refund due to water damage in cylinder 1) into the car over the course of 2 days.

Great Video, This may be a stupid question but I am pretty new on this, can I use a 2.5 engine that came from an automatic car donor if my mx5 is manual or it does not matter? I was thinking about doing the same swap, but most of the good car donors I find are auto.

Be sure to loctite the bypass bolt. Another 2.5 swap blew up because the bolt backed out.

It is incredibly handy. I bought a 1/4” one and loved it so much that I had to go back and get one in every size.

I’ll bet the spark plug coming apart had more to do with detonation than anything else, you probably had a vacuum leak near that cylinders intake port.

I dont trust anything that use friction in a motor especially timming parts bmw does it and its $10,000 repair ill have it keyed
