Skip Carey was not happy when TBS passed on him to call it's LDS games in 2007. He worked for them for 30 years. Yet NBC gets him to fill in for Costas while Bob's recovering from his Olympic hosting duties for this week. It's funny however to see Skip call only American League Division Series Games despite doing NL games (Braves) for years and years.
@TMC1982Part26 жыл бұрын
Why did NBC use Skip Caray to fill in for Bob Costas instead of say, Joe Morgan's normal ESPN Sunday Night Baseball partner at the time, Jon Miller? I know that Miller was doing the NLDS for ESPN (alongside Joe Morgan and Buck Martinez on days that Morgan was unavailable) during that same time period.
@ryanstrnad84426 жыл бұрын
Probably cuz Miller had ESPN division series commitments? His contract at ESPN may have prevented him from working for another network? Sometimes networks don't want to mimic whats going on with another network hence the different partner for Morgan in Carey. It was funny because I believe Carey had to miss radio coverage for his Braves to do these network games. I remember thinking before NBC had to address this conflict that they'd bring VIN SCULLY back to call these division series games. They brought Bucky Waters back to call a college basketball game or two just a few years earler than this. Heck, they brought Paul McGuire back after leaving for ESPN Sunday Night NFL to call a Grambling game one time (in the late '00 decade) and not to mention for their '88 Seoul Olympic conflicts, they got Curt Gowdy out of retirement to work with Merlin Olson. A side note to this, for the network's Notre Dame football coverage, NBC used a young announcer by the name of Craig Milanovich (spelling) to work with Pat Haden for that Olympic shortage.

Watching this game reinforces the notion that “moneyball” didn’t start in 2002. The analytics of approach of walk, home runs, not bunting or stealing was developed around 1999. This Oakland team played the same as that 2002 team. Just less power and better pitching.
@dukedematteo19952 жыл бұрын
It was the Oakland way since McGwire....He was the original walk n jack Oakland A. Giambi was his protégé in that regard.( And in other ways , hehehehe) Maybe they didn't adhere to no stolen bases as much with Henderson, but he was a walk machine, and the rest of that lineup was patient too. Steinbach, Baines etc.
