One of my all-time favorite races. It was this race teams took notice on Sam Hornish. Panther Racing signed him after the season to replace retiring Scott Goodyear. This was Jimmy Kite best run til blown engine took him out

This was Sarah Fisher's best career IndyCar finish at the time. She would finish 2nd at Homestead Miami Speedway on April 8, 2001.

@@AlonsoRules But that doesn't really matter actually. In Europe that's common practice. The World Series by Renault used to give away free tickets in Belgium for its Spa race. You only needed to go get them yourselves at a pick-uppoint. Because it attracts a lot of people, and they'll most likely buy drinks, food or merch at the track, they actually could make more money than when they would have sold the tickets. Of course the prices of those were a bit higher but it worked. I have no idea how much an IRL ticket costed back in those days but I guess the used the same method.

I was fortunate to attend this race. It was the first one for the IRL Series at this track, Excellent facility. Very Clean.

didn't they go to smaller engines in 2000? weird that they wouldn't mandate a flat plane for 2000, unless that was a transitional year. either way i do remember the different sounds.
