These cars, from the early 90’s until the early 2000’s were the ones that made me love Indycar. The sound of the RPM’s was amazing. I still miss that part of this generation.

Right, I feel mocked because we haven't had an indycar race since 2015. As of 2021, 2 races will host at the Milwaukee Mile. The ARCA Midwest Tour for the Father's Day 100 and the ARCA Menards Series for the Milwaukee 150. Although it isn't indycar, at this point I'm desperate for any race to show up.

I got to miss school to see the race on Monday. Sat in turn 4. Monday they were literally down to a few pizzas & turkey legs for food before the start of the race. As much as I enjoy the new grandstands, the nostalgia of the old stands was tough to beat.

Went to a few of these races as a kid. Infield at turn 4. Watching these guys rip by then disappear. Amazing times as a kid.

How was CART able to still use the Indy lights name for the smaller series ? I thought the term Indy was still owned buy IMS and they were not able to use the name since 1996.

No, thanks to multi-year contracts they had rights to use the Indy name for several years after the split. For some examples, several races internationally also had Indy in the name like Surfer's Paradise, Toronto, and Vancouver. And for the first season after the split, the CART half even remained named the PPG Indy Car World Series. The CART name only came to prominence in the series name with the 2nd year of the split, when it was renamed to the CART PPG World Series. Before that, CART was officially only the name of the sanctioning body, not the series itself.

Indeed the Grand Prix term in Australia was trademarked to the corporation that ran the Formula One race in Melbourne (and also what's now MotoGP). IMG who were promotors of the Gold Coast weekend obviously didn't want to pay major overs for the rights.

The Hanford Mark 2 aero package kind of ruined CART’s short track races, which had been breathtaking even up through 1999 when they mandated the superspeedway wings to reduce cornering speeds. But the 2000 package combined a front wing that really needed clean air to work (because it was so small) with a rear wing designed to produce maximum dirty air. Never understood what they were trying to do.

The decline of CART began in 2000, they changed the aerodynamics of the cars like crazy and put this absurd drag on the rear wing, which ended up making the races very boring and boring, as there were no longer overtakes like in 1999, which For me it was the best year in the category. Compare the difference in the wings of the cars in this 2000 race to the same race in 1999, it's striking.
