This was among the best races in the early IRL era (1996-2003). Thanks for UL with the corrected audio/video on the final laps. I remember watching this live as the video feed blacked out with just a few laps remaining.

This race was amazing! I remember waiting for fifteen minutes or so before giving up. Always Bad Coverage. Remember back when every CART broadcast would end as soon as the checkered flag waved with no discussion at all?

Is it my understanding that oval racing will be phased out?! And what was Tony Hulmans's big selling point for IRL vs CART? It was that oval racing is the heart and soul of Indycar! I still feel that way!

no ovals are not being "phased out" there is no official doctrine to that notion. ovals are in a slump because of bad marking and promoting.

This was a great race. Did the downforce levels make it such a pack race? I can't believe that there wasn't a huge wreck at some point because they were so close all the time!!

and why would you say that? of all the 1.5 mile ovals, Texas was the BEST market for Indycar. There used to be 2 races a year at that track for Indycar, spring & fall, both pulling in 75k people. The reason there was no one there in this video, is this race was being held on a rain delayed day, and even on that day there was threat of severe weather and tornadoes.

There weren't many people there because of the threat of rain in the area. I was there that weekend and a lot of people thought it was going to get rained out.

The Threat of Rain and Tornados that weekend was bad before this Race even got going a Bad thunderstorm had rolled threw and If I recall Ppl left the Ppl who stayed I believe we had to take cover in the Tunnels and Garage area
