2000 Dodge Durango Stop Light Switch Replacement, Brake Light Fuse & Troubleshooting

PRAISE GOD!!! ....FINALLY someone who knows! Got a 01 Dakota base, 2.5L 5spd and had headlight problems and found they're controlled by a "TIMER" controller in the D/S kick panel. BUT, have gone through 2 new switches. I have marker/driving lights in back but turns flash all 3 no matter which side you turn the stalk to R/L.. I'm going to try this in the morning! THANK YOU THANK YOU! I'll let you know what happens.

Thank you so much ! Brake lights were not working but light on the outside above my rear window was. With my 98 dakota still running, i poured some iso alchohol straight down into my hazard light switch while pressing in and out and it worked! Thanks so much saved me alot of trouble and alot of Headache!!!!!!

Thanks for the great video. You explained things very clearly. I am going to give it a try today. My taillights and third upper taillight do not brighten when I apply the brake. My hazard light also does not always want to work. It freezes in on position.

Thanks for this video! I was working on replacing the heater core in a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan and had to disconnect the brake pedal and steering column shaft. Now my brake light switch has started making a loud clicking noise when I push/pull it ONLY when my truck is parked. When it is in drive there is no clicking noise. Any idea why this is happening? And how to properly turn that black lever to adjust the switch to the correct distance on the existing switch? Both brake lights however work the way they should, however, the top one does not work at all!

Yo thank you Thank you I put the switch in no problem but sum switches like mine will have the lever already set u just install it but wit that said things went smoothly...... Thanks bro

If pressing the hazard light switch multiple times does not work does that mean I have to replace the whole switch or is there another way to bypass

My 1998 Durango brakes lights (all 3) were stuck on. I did pressed the hazzard switch on & off fast several times, like you said. I was able to get the brake lights turned off. However I will just go ahead & replace the switch.

I wondered about that black lever. I replaced the brake booster and did the rod adjustment, yet the pedal wouldn't always shut the lights off. If I pulled the lever up about an 1/8" to where it bottomed out, it still barely pushed on the switch. So the black lever is for self adjusting it. I'm curious why my switch and new ones all say do not reinstall?

I am told a faulty brake light switch could also cause the cruise control to not work. My cruise will not work. Is this true or false? I have 2000 Durango SLT. All brake lights work including back up light. Throttle body cables are in tact and work although the cruise control cable has more slack. Thanks.

I have a 98 Dodge Dakota and I have an issue with my brake light fuse 20 amp fuse keeps blowing.. my light bulbs are good my tail lights work my headlights work everything works but my brake light 20 amp fuse keeps blowing?

Great video man thanks. But I have a little bit of a different problem. I have an 02 Durango and my left brake light doesn’t work. Changed the bulbs it will work for a shot time then go out again. Bulbs are fine , changed the entire light assembly, same problem?.Fuses are all good. Even changed them just to be sure. I have not tried replacing the switch yet, any advice ? Please help!.

Check the wiring down the frame to the brake light could be a short somewhere

Only my third break light works and my break light switch is good I jumped pins 1 and 2 and there's no continuity untill I press break pedal in and the third break light comes on

2002 Dodge Dakota I have no lights brake lights in the back and my light on the cab doesn't work either I put a new switch in it and I checked the fuses I'm still not getting anything
