Excellent work... You seem to know your stuff. You give the shady tree mechanic/back yard mechanic LOTS of hope. I'd feel REAL confident attempting and or attacking this project... Thanx a bunch... -A.D.

Very nicely done. I''ve done all kinds of work on a 79 Vette, including 4 engine swaps. Working on a FWD scares me because I have big hands and I know space is limited. Your video will be a huge help when I replace the timing belt on my son's Civic.

Great video. I'm not a mechanic in any sense of the word, but this was the best timing belt video I've seen. Planning to do this to my '98 Acura EL (Eh?), i.e. the Canadian version of a dressed up Civic. With help from my journeyman mechanic in-law of course. That was a lotta leverage you used to get that crank bolt loose!

with the coolant coming out from the pump. the way to drain that is triugh a drain plug behind the aternator on the block above the oil filter. you open that up and it drains the coolant that is in the block, not just whats in the rad

ATG recommends to do the following: If you CAN NOT remove the Crankshaft Pulley's Bolt out- DO NOT DO 1. Get the complete Timing Belt Kit 2. Camshaft Seals 3. Crankshaft Seals. Good luck doing the rear one 4. Water pump 5. Rollers 6. Tensioner with Spring 7. Oil Pump's O-Ring. Good luck doing this 8. Spark Plugs are optional 9. Spark Plug Coils are optional X. All belts Many videos will not show nor even shops will replace those needed seals. Many owners will NOT get this type of repairs because it is well over $3,500.00. And for sure not a single one on KZbin will show you how to replace the Crankshaft Inner's Seal (back) or the Oil Pump's O-Ring without taking the engine apart from car. Anyone has questions /or need help, reply email address here

nice video..but is that the crankshaft position sensor located down in the area by water pump inside of timing g? let me know. I've been having a problem with my civic running well for a few miles then it dies while I'm driving and won't start for 10-20 minutes once over an hour. A few ppl told me that it may be the crankshaft position sensor..
@zuhrimohdlotfy15767 жыл бұрын
the crankshaft position sensor is beside the crank gear at the bottom. you have to remove the crank pulley, and lower timing belt cover to get access to it. does your engine turn when you start?

hi, the instructions came with the new OEM crank pulley bolt that i bought online. also, you should be able to search for valve adjustment on youtube
@xTLRxPrototype10 жыл бұрын
I should have watched this video, I took off the valve cover to paint it and when I was putting it back on 2 bolts snapped. It also makes this terrible noise for about 20 seconds when i turn the car on but I dont think it has anything to do with that, maybe the water pump.

if you have a 1/2 air impact with enough torque that bolt will come out and do no damage. i always choose the cheapest option which for me is to use the impact i already have for removing tires

I didn't need the pulley tool. I simply used a Snap-on Impact gun and the bolt came rite off and the pulley didn't move. You need if you try to muscle it off with a wrench..

Hi, Great Video! Could you send me some of information you read on your research before doing this? I'm afraid to do it myself cuss I dont know the torque pounds of every bolt
@zuhrimohdlotfy15768 жыл бұрын
+Christian Bravo i actually just googled and watched some other videos on youtube. i do have the haynes repair manual that specifies all torque values. its actually not too bad to try yourself.
@garretts9110 жыл бұрын
Easiest way to remove crank pulley bolt without the tool is to put the car in 2nd gear and have someone stand on the brakes hard while you crank the bolt loose. I've never had luck with chain wrenches.
@zuhrimohdlotfy157610 жыл бұрын
Yup, could do that too. I was working by myself so had to get this setup going, but thanks for the tip.

Was that a 3/4 or 1/2 inch drive on the crank pulley removal tool ?
@angelindisguise26957 жыл бұрын
When you put the crankshaft pulley back on does it matter how it goes back on, because there's a white timing mark on the crankshaft pulley, so does it matter where that white timing mark is during installation of crankshaft pulley? Have you ever changed crankshaft oil seal? If you pull out the crankshaft sprocket to replace the oil seal, then when you put the crankshaft sprocket back in, how do you align the notch on the crankshaft sprocket to the pointer on the engine?
@havenpoteat20477 жыл бұрын
Angel Michael, the crankshaft pully can only be put on one way cuz the little pin that holds in place
@angelindisguise26957 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the information. Do you know if it's the same procedure for crankshaft sprocket? Does the crankshaft sprocket go in only one way too? I think I need to move the crankshaft sprocket cause I might need to change the oil seal behind it.

How do I know if my timing belt is bad? My car began making a noise when I start it, near the belts he took off in the video i can hear sort of a whirring noise, is it my timing belt or what could it be?
@zuhrimohdlotfy157610 жыл бұрын
I doubt it's the timing belt. If it snapped, then the engine valves are done. It could be a bad bearing on a pulley. Usually timing belts are replaced at defined intervals (i.e. every 105k miles) as preventative maintenance.

Joseph Hill The only oil seal i had to undo was for the valve cover. Is the oil leaking from the head?
@HILLfoSHO1007 жыл бұрын
Zuhri Lotfy I checked it out today man. I looked at everything for like 2 hours straight then a light bulb popped on my head. It was the DipStick Tube........ I wanted to noose myself in several different ways. BUT THEN!!!! I seen the woodruff key on my magnet after putting everything back together and picking up. I felt nauseous. long day. I also snapped 3 belts because the alternator pully wasn't spinning. fuck this car.
@zuhrimohdlotfy15767 жыл бұрын
Joseph Hill ah man sorry that happened. Yea forgot about the dipstick tube. Its ok man, take your time

The seal behind crank pully will start to leak if you aren't gentle with it when installing
@diegosc9856 жыл бұрын
In these old civics, the crank and cam seals are seriously overlooked. The Pcv valve also makes a HUGE difference. Its right above the oil filter at the end of a hose on the right side. Make sure to change that at least once

For real I am feeling somewhat dizzy from watch this video probably do to too much cam movement. I need to stop the video before it worst worst. Other than that this is a great video.
