In 1990, the first ever QB challenge took place. The winner was Ken O'Brien. In the 1991 and 1992 edition of the challenge, Dan Marino won. In 1993, Jeff Hostetler won the QB challenge. In 1994 and 1995, Randall Cunningham won the QB challenge. In 1996, Neil O'Donnell won. In 1997, Vinny Testaverde won. In 1998, Jim Harbaugh won. In 1999 and 2000, Jake Plummer won. In 2001, Trent Dilfer won. In 2002, Jeff Garcia won. In 2003, Brad Johnson won. In 2004, Matt Hasselbeck won. In 2005, Jake Delhomme won. In 2006, Chris Simms won and in 2007, the very last one, Josh McCown won. I would like to see this brought back. It would be interesting to see how modern QBs would do in this challenge.

1999 to 2000 strikes me as a pretty noteworthy point where the NFL lacked a lot of high quality quarterbacks in the league. Especially 2000. Marino, Elway, and Young all retired. Favre was there, but had a dip in play, Gannon was having a late career surge, Peyton/Culpepper/McNabb were getting started, and Warner was probably the best. Other than that it wasn't that great. McNair wouldn't take off as a true air maestro until 2001. Brunell was meh. I guess Jeff Garcia had his best year. Other veterans like Elvis Grbac had maybe a career year, and that was it. In this video Jim Harbaugh, Tony Banks, Chris Chandler, and Cade McNown somehow got an invite.

Thanks for the upload... Those were the great times. The pretenders and the contenders showed off. No hogwash about arm strength in the press but a true eye test. And here comes the surprise: McNown throwing 72 yards, twice (and another 69 yarder). Wow! I only remembered his wobbling 10 yard throws in Chicago... Thus there must be something in the air over there making Chicago QBs look and play real bad consistently. Maybe it carried over from the 88 Fog Bowl? Either way: It makes legendary Jim McMahon all the more impressive (the last true QB that Chicago witnessed). The only guy next to Sid Luckman to have some kind of success over there. "Only" problem he played with half of a body and mostly did not get further than the first half of a season. That is exactly two QBs in 80+ years. Needless to say Fields will fail (he is already in the middle of the failure process). Even Philadelphia folk hero Foles couldn't prevail in northern QB hell.
