I love watching these old tour videos! I don’t care about the EPO, these were fun and entertaining. They still had to ride the bike and pedal their way through France. I still cheer on the “Pirate” as he explodes up the mountains.

In fact after all these years passed, it just makes me more curious about the golden era of EPOs, nobody suffered from them more than the cyclists themselves, physically and mentally. So despite the drug effect, they still gave us their best, I think that’s something I’m looking for here, just the sheer amount of strength that people can get out of themselves, and how far men could push themselves.

1:40:00 as per Tyler Hamilton's book, Lance did a blood transfusion the night before. Hamilton didn't feel well but Lance flew like a rocket. It's probably what 'guilted' him into giving Pantani the win. Although it should be noted Lance was a master of gifting stages in order to calm rivals down in later stages.

Tyler Hamilton was asked by a British college class, if it was possible to win the Tour de France clean. He said that when he was racing, it wasn’t. So, is it really possible that riders like Vinndegard are dominating, because of better nutrition and better bikes? I’m not so sure.
@Newtube_Channel7 ай бұрын
Doping is overrated. The so-called cheating is grossly overblown. There are so many ways to get an edge, are you going to police them all, where do you set boundaries? No, impossibru. The sport, sport in general is not an exact science. Winners and losers are almost an arbitrary toss of the draw. Don't expect unbounded _cleanliness_ .

If the entire peloton was indeed using performance enhancement drugs, the question is, if the entire peloton was clean, would Armstrong still have won the race? I’d have to think he would have. The only doubt I have on that is that I think it’s clear that US Postal not only had the best riders, the best training, the best recon, but also the best doping. They left nothing to chance. We’ll never know the answer though as unfortunately the doping was such a huge part of professional cycling in these years.
@machohogan Жыл бұрын
Probably not. He was a hyper responder. The drugs post cancer effected him more most other riders. He was lucky that he had a fairly low red blood cell count naturally, he had a huge boost from EPO. Lemond was a natural monster, Hamilton and Landis would naturally be Lance’s equal if not better on the climbs. Lance would be what he was in younger years, a powerful one day rider who’s good on 5km climbs.
@tman5634 Жыл бұрын
The whole peloton? Where do you get such inept info from? What factual proof do you have? No they weren't. Not everyone. Many, yes. There's a huge difference.
@JWD1012 Жыл бұрын
It is hard to imagine that Armstrong would have been able to lose that much weight and muscle mass but not power, without the oxygen transport boost that EPO and transfusions game him. If the entire peloton was clean, Armstrong could have been an elite classics rider (if he developed his race management skills which were very inconsistent up to 1996), but he was nobody's idea of a GC rider until he lost a lot of weight while gaining red blood cells. Even his own team mates as late as 1998 thought the idea of him winning the tour was far-fetched, and that's WITH drugs. Phil Liggett used to go on in his commentary about how Lance became a climber by losing weight and spinning his pedals faster in a low gear. Ok, that's true, but how? Spinning your pedals faster in a low gear requires your lungs to work harder. He was already an elite endurance athlete before cancer. How was he going to get even fitter?
@stockob128 ай бұрын
Armstrong would have never sniffed a yellow jersey without drugs
@oldtwinsna83475 ай бұрын
He was a strong single day rider even without the drugs, but winning Tours is a different story. The drugs helped his consistency where fatigue becomes a problem in 3 week stage races. That was his biggest problem to overcome and not unique to himself, as it's common for time trialists.

While others were doing other races.... Armstrong was training ON THE ACTUAL STAGES in the Tour.......he did some of those mountain stages 2 or 3 times each in training...... HUGE ADVANTAGE by doing that

He has always been a spoiled brat. Never like the guy I wish he retired a year ago. You race for fun and enjoyment not for records see ya Cav. His team cannot take him to the Tour they should concentrate on GC. Luv you Chris keep up the good work.😊
