but where do you find mechanic's like that? I'm amazed at how quickly they just want to throw parts (it's not their money). Whenever I ask about troubleshooting or what they did, I get blank stares. No one knows squat anymore. Out here, that Celica own would be in $500 of new parts and labor and three shops prior to finding issue. I paid a shop for 'diagnosis' mainly because I wanted smoke test to prove no vac leak, they supposedly did it and just said 'need MAF sensor.' I had already tried TWO with no luck, so now I'm stuck with no help and running out of ideas - no vac leak, no performance issues (no hesitation or rough idle), I'm going to read the trims, since I'm now fixing this myself since I find no competence anywhere.

This code has so many meanings to this engine, intake manifold gasket, wrong plugs, leaking hoses, broken/dirty airfilter, aftermarket air intake that causes problems, broken/dirty maf sensor, etc.. For me it was just a dirty MAF sensor, cleaned it with a little brake cleaner and blew it dry. It fixed everything lol (after changing my intake manifold gasket, obviously -_-)

You are the man, I spend days on internet and on mehanics, read all values from OBD and I didn't know why long and short trim on my new buy car are too high. Someone must reverse those two conectors, now when saw you video I checked and swap them, my longt and short trim are normal, almost 0, only thing that bother me now are low readings on MAF like 1.85 g/s and low RPM about 680. Is there any advice that you could gave my, my air filter is new, throtle body is cleaned, iac valve also, maf are cleaned with maf spray cleaner, I had kn filter, with that RPM are little better around 720, but still low MAF reading about 1.9 g/s and o2 sensor voltage is same like now jumping from 0.1 to 0.7. Thank for help man
@kevinminor25583 жыл бұрын
Those are normal readings on the maf. Rule of thumb liter size should be close to g/s at idle. So 1.8l should be around 1.8g/s you're good. Never use k&n

Got my head gasket repaired 97 4Runner cost me $1300. After getting my car I still had check engine lights. Same code 171 lean. He told me to bring it back in and did some tests with the fuses and voltage and said those are fine. But I’m getting a vacuum leak near the head (I can’t explain exactly where ) but he sprayed it with some kind of spray and the engine would shake a little more. He said $150 to change the part and it might not solve my issue. I need help.
@jeroen76995 жыл бұрын
He tested the intake manifold gasket for leaking. When he sprayed some brakecleaner on there, the idle changes, because the alcohol is sucked into the intake. So yes, the intake manifold is probably leaking at the gasket. If this was the initial problem, then the headgasket replacement perhaps wasn't needed... I would have a ferm talk to your mechanic if I were you. Good luck.

Once you , disconnect the blue conector and connected the black connector , what should I do with the blue connector ? Where it supposed to go ?
@haleccigodoy5 жыл бұрын
Did you ever figure where the blue one goes ?
@MMMmyshawarma3 жыл бұрын
Blue controls VSV for Air Intake Control. Basically there is a flap in the airbox that closes and opens to meter air flow at different rpms and lessen noise, using vacuum from a small tube coming from the intake manifold.. If you're going to remove that butterfly valve, or not using a stock airbox and running SRI/CAI, there is no use for it, just leave the blue connector off and plug the tube that comes from the intake manifold.

Lean conditions will not ruin a cat. Rich conditions will ruin a cat. Unless it's lean enough to cause a misfire. In this situation it was not causing a misfire. It was only causing positive fuel trims which set a po171. And the car never had a PO420 after repair was done.
