Thank you for this video. I was diagnosing a 2000 tacoma v6 with p0171. Long term fuel trim was up to 33% on load at 3k rpm and evens out at idle. Your video helped me narrow it down to a faulty MAF after checking for fuel pressure and vacuum leaks. You are much appreciated.

I have been chasing the po171 and po 325 knock sensor code. The vehicle i am restoring is a 98 Nissan altima GXE. I had a po440 and a po 1138 i believe. I replaced the evap hose's. And that fixed the evap codes. I am now tracking down the massive vacuum leak. The short term fuel trim is + 20 to 25 percent. The long term is and stays about 10 percent. I changed the 02 sensors map and maf sensors. The fuel trims on the road is totally normal indicating a vacuum leak. I changed those sensors as maintainance because of the car age. The PCV and intake bellows are next suspects. This was a good video.

That was one of the many codes on my 2003 Chevy Express 3500 LT. Had a permanent MISFIRE also for years. Just wrapping up an reman engine swap that i got from AutoZone and discovered some bolts on both my exhaust manifolds were broken clean off and there was lots of carbon residue on the sides of the engine. I'm assuming i was sucking air at this point. Before this discovery I changed spark plugs, plug wires, ignition coils and O2 sensors to no avail. Even did a live scan one time and one of the O2 sensors were pulling 0.015 v. Oh. The engine never went into closed loop. EVER. I'm a driveway mechanic so i learn a lot of things the hard way. Thanks for your video. Obviously there was a vacuum leak at the PCV hose connector. I also think there are additional problems. I would put a fuel pressure gauge to monitor fuel pressure a idle and at load. In addition. a fuel injector "drop test" to monitor for clogged fuel injectors. My concern was as you increased RPMs past idle, the positive LT FT started increasing. Also , the MAF sensor seemed Skewed a little in the positive direction, as mentioned at idle with a 1.8 L engine MAF should read ~ 1.8 G/s. Also, I would recommend an oil change to the customer since the high fuel trims may have fuel to the engine oil. Once again thanks for your video.
@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair2 жыл бұрын
FAUSTO GONZALEZ Thanks for your input!! There was no need to check all of those components since the fuel trim numbers got better after fixing the vacuum leak at the PCV tube, I like the idea of doing an oil change afterwards!!

K diagnostic thanks for such an informative cool video, you are truly a professional tech with excellent diagnostic skills, my years in automotive as a SAE certified tech back in the day was filled with learning as much as possible so I could be the best tech possible just like you, another way to check for vacuum leaks due to lean running is to use propane gas around the engine as it's running, when you hit the spot where the leak is the engine will Rev up high as long as you keep the propane gas in that spot, we used to do that in the 80's to find vacuum leaks. Love the Video and your expertise, much respect

@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair just remembered something else, the EGR Valve is only suppose to open during open throttle and when cruising but at idle it's suppose to close so it doesn't make the car run too lean, but the symptoms would be that the car runs fine when cruising but would shut off at idle cause the EGR valve would stay stuck open and lean out fuel system at idle...don't know if that's a problem with the cars nowadays with all the new technology and computer controls

Very informative information to say the least!! I'm experiencing the same codes with my 007 Lexus IS350. P0173 and 4. And the P0420 catalytic converter is below specific. I wish I could send you my Blue driver data information.
