2000 Toyota Corolla Replace PCV Valve.
There are many reports that excessive oil consumption in an older car may be the result of a failing or clogged PCV valve. Especially when there are no sign of leaks under the car.
It is a relatively easy fix and well within the budget of the average guy. Less than $10 dollars in most cases.

I know this video is old, but just wanted to say thanks for showing this. Recently got a Corolla and it was burning about 1/2 a quart every thousand miles. Someone on a forum suggested the PVC valve and I found this video. Took mine out and it was gunked up like you wouldn’t believe! Hopefully this fixes the issue. I’ll know after the next thousand miles. Thanks again!

@@turbolegend3976 Yes it helped. It still burns a little oil but that’s expected from older engines. I didn’t clean the old one though, I bought a new one and replaced and changed the oil. I went from about 1/2 a quart every 1000 miles to 1/2 qt every 1500 miles after a couple oil changes. I used synthetic oil and a good filter and replaced on a more frequent schedule. I changed every 2500-3000 miles because the oil was getting real dark real quick and I noticed that the oil had left bits of sludge in my drain pan so I wanted to get it out more quickly. I’ve put about 12,000 miles on the car since my original comment. I recently took out my PVC valve I replaced last year and it was gunked up a bit, but not nearly as bad as the first time. Last oil change was 5000 miles and I only burned through 1 1/2 quarts. I’m 4000 miles in this oil and I’ve gone through a similar amount. I have 175,000 miles on mine and it’s 2000.

Hi! I enjoy your Corolla videos. I just want to say from one owner to another, make sure you check your oil at least once a week minimum. As reliable as Toyotas are in general, one fault with the 1ZZ FE engine early on was oil burning. It has to do with the pistons not having many oil drain holes which get gummed up. Not all people will experience this though, a lot of the issue has to do with vehicles not receiving proper maintenance. My 2000 has been great for my almost five years of ownership! Cheers.

Poor matenence such as not changing the oil causes the drain holes to get sludged up. Try useing products like Seafoam to de sludge the engine.

Hey bud what is going on with your Corolla? No the Marvel Mystery oil is actually very good stuff. Sea foam actually isn't that great. It is best used for cleaning Outboard boat engines and lawn mowers.

I purchased a 2002 corolla and like you mentioned I have to check my oil twice a week depending how much I drive. However other than that it’s pretty much reliable and like a lot of people say. Oil is cheap and engine replacement or repair is expensive. I just purchased some Liqui-Moly Engine Flush. Does anybody know how good that works

With pretty good care, my 2000 Corolla recently crossed 250K miles and A/C and heater still work fine. Original muffler.

@@averageguysgarage In 2020 at about 275K, my Corolla got a new PCV valve (NAPA had one from Japan) for under $9. I installed it in maybe 3 minutes and had the PCV hose to install if needed... but the PCV alone seems to have resolved the 'bumpy' idle I had for a month or more. PCV is cheap and simple and VERY important because of what it prevents... pressure that ruins the valve cover gasket, for one. And that is NOT a job for most guys... but for a garage and their price for a gasket and labor... maybe in the hundreds total. See?
