Great work. You managed to not drop f bombs and throw tools in anger.

Thank you so much for this. Not much of a car mechanic, so when this happened to me, I was trying to price out what it would cost to get it done on my 2002 Tundra, and that was one of those yeah no not sinking that much money into a vehicle that is 22 years old. So the eclip suggestion was a very welcome solution. It took me some f-bombs, but I got the it fixed and back together looking pretty much like it did before I opened the door up. THANK YOU!

I was surprised by the poor design of that part by Toyota although it lasted 20yrs.... someone i know paid Toyota almost $600 to replace drivers side latch assembly... I just repaired his passenger side...the hardest part was getting the door to open...but was able too by getting to the part that had too much play to release the latch.. found your video after the fact but you explained things very well....

Thanks for commenting, like you I was surprised that it was a plastic part that wore out like that within a crucial mechanism. At least it was an inexpensive, easy fix once you got to the part. Thanks for watching the video.

Intricate mechanism. I have to unlatch the door to open before I can repair the problem😂. Nonetheless your vid showed me what I need. Thank you and good luck.

Thanks for watching, this really works. Still works great for me.

I had the same problem as you victorrodea7163, to unlatch the door I had to cut the screws of the back door latch in order to release tha latch and open the doors. I came here looking for the way the last spring is positioned, it is the last thing I need to finish my repair 😅

@@exoticwoodpen it did and it worked for about 5 opening and closing. Then it decided to not work again! Looks like I’m buying a new one (however the OE is on national back order)

@@1tbtoolsthanks, bummer that didn’t work for more than 5 trys. I found that when I tried to order it, it was on back order then. You might want to take it apart and see what happened and give it another shot.

@@exoticwoodpen my worry is the only way to get it open now is to gain entry through the access door and cut off the weld tacks of the striker bar (latch)

Hi John, been awhile. Just started a new pen, nothing fancy but should be a good looking pen. I will post when done.

How does the cable to the interior latch (shown at the 12:38 mark on the left side in your hand) attach to the mechanism? My latch cable is not attached at that position and I'm trying to determine if it's broke or just loose. It it just the bare cable that I have.

Hi, it's a round head that slips into the hole that is on the end of the cable. If you don't have the round end on the cable then the cable is broken. I hope that helps.
