Flat out, the MOST disturbing thing about rewatching these old meets is how often he is mentioned and obviously treating these young ladies in back rooms, with who knows present, if anyone. Makes you feel more than a little sick!!!

ms. x that’s not why she said no. Going to the training room would take her out of the running for a spot on the team. Sadly she was too injured to really show them what she could do

I'm not a huge Steve Nunno fan but I really liked what he was saying to Shannon at the end there, about just supporting the rest of the team and not feeling sorry for ourselves. That's thinking of the big picture.

@SAX713 they actually did win the bronze when they realized that the chinese had young gymnast that were competiting so their gold medal was taken from them and the usa team won bronze medal so they finished off so they all moved a spot caz of that

A couple notes, as I'm just getting to watch this; the last time I saw it was when it aired. 1 - Larry Nassar. Ew. If her knee is injured, why would he touch Shannon's hip?! 2 - Why would Steve explain the whole "you have 3 runs to the vault" thing when Shannon had been competing for long enough that she would know this?
@Jen-lc5yc5 жыл бұрын
Yes! My thoughts EXACTLY!!!

Why does everybody feel the need to mention that man? It's like he's forever tied to their identity. Like they're no longer athletes.

1. Yeah 2. Coaches repeat things for reassurance. In tennis coaches will say "hit up on the ball" and things we all know. It doesn't really help but it may for some

She must have known she wouldn't be able to compete on a world stage again once that knee went on the vault. The second one must have been incredibly painful for her, emotionally and physically.
@sami1616712 жыл бұрын
Actually Alicia is the second most decorated U.S. gymnast bhind Shannon Miller, and most certaintly not a joke. She had a bad day, and most likely they wouldn't have won any way if she hadn't made a mistake on floor, With beam there was nothing she could do after being off line. Martha trusted her enough to put her on the 2010 and 2011 Worlds team, and since she's the head of women's gymnastics in the U.S. I think that speaks for itself.

Well said! They just weren't forward thinking enough to realize that pushing everyone to do AA was not necessary in this format. At that time, it would be unheard of to not do AA, no matter how weak you were on one event. Now its the trend!!

Everyone was shocked when Miller fell - even Elise Ray, who had to vault right after her, mistimed her first run and had to go again. I do wish they had allowed specialists then as vault was always Miller's weakest event, and with the knee injury it would have been best for both her and the team if she were to focus on her strengths (bars and beam). It could have saved Atler's Olympic dream too, but alas...
@dougierichardson484 Жыл бұрын
Yes. Atler could have done everything but bars, and Miller done just bars and beam. It would make sense for both at the time.

To all of the ppl saying the team would've won bronze w Shannon..hang it up! She, like the rest of the Mag 7 who came back, sans Amy, didnt hav the difficulty to put up the huge scores the team needed. Dawes could still put up a big ub score, but face it, these girls came back after years off. Dawes was the queen of coming thru for the team; even she had a fall. The 97 code change was just too drastic for the girls who were coming up to adapt 2 on an internationally competitive level.
@NYCBlonde15 жыл бұрын
I have such mixed feelings about that--part of me thinks yes, she would've led the team to a medal because she was so bleepin' awesome but part of me thinks thank God she didn't dent her legacy by being on the 2000 team! But you know, we have such high standards--the 2000 team wasn't terrible by any means. They were pretty good, actually. They just didn't medal. They finished fourth. It was just disappointing because we were the defending Olympic champions.

@SageRosemaryTime2 жыл бұрын
Creepy to look back and see "Dr" Larry Nassar being incompetent as usual. He sent a gymnast with extreme pain. back to hard training after telling her "There's nothing wrong with it " An independent x-ray showed the bone was broken ! A strange and sad part of history amid great talent, character and courage.

Yeah, if Shannon had tried a vault on the too-low vaulting horse, she could have been badly hurt.
@dougierichardson484 Жыл бұрын
Shannon would have never vaulted had she made the Sydney team (with White's WD she would be the weakest vaulter on the team and never used on that event) nor qualified for the All Around where the vault was the wrong height so being injured on vault in the All Around is no worry.
@dougierichardson484 Жыл бұрын
@@astrinymris9953 Shannon would not have even done vault had she made the team, nor been in the All Around which is the only time the vault was the wrong height, so that wouldn't be any worry for her.

the 2000 olympic team was one of the weakest i've ever seen. i was severely disappointed. i've watched 92-12 olympic gymnastics competitions and 96 and 12 are the best we've been. 08 was close, but sacramone was a joke.
@Rizzlergoblin5786 ай бұрын
You speak as if you can come even close to these gymnasts. Elise ray was a victim of the too-low vault and almost died, same with Kristin Maloney. A U.S. team with two potential gold medalists is not “weak”. Also Sacramone could prolly beat your ass so I wouldn’t call her a joke. So disgusting. She did everything she could for the team that quad, and doesn’t deserve to be bashed by some random loser on youtube. And btw, no one cares that you were “severely disappointed” as if you have some sort of importance to the olympics. I bet you think it was Simone’s fault for being forced to withdraw from Tokyo. You are the joke lmao
