Gabe Jennings ran like a guy who wants to win a race instead of sitting back for 3 laps hoping his kick would save him.

Saw this back then on TV. At the time those track spikes he wore were very popular. The Nike Zoom Jasari track spikes. I was a 9th grader in HS. All the top runners had those spikes. Everyone talked about this race too.

Gabe Jennings is one of the more painful runners to watch. He just wills himself to win, so I'll give him that

He was the clearly the best American that year and the next. He and his Stanford mate started fading in the era of Alan Webb. This was Michael Stember's high water mark as a runner. Both of those guys unfortunately weren't cut out for the life of a pro runner and the work involved.
