That's amazing. How those engineers come up with those gearboxes in the first place is remarkable. Awesome vid and great insight on how they work.

Thanks! Its mindblowing how complex the hydraulic circuits are, especially when you think automatic gearboxes used to be totally mechanical.

Loving the build mate subbed up! Mind-blowing how much works involved in these boxes, makes an engine rebuild look like a walk in the park! How much did the box rebuild cost, if you don't mind me asking ?

What are the advantages of this one over the the 47s or 48s that came with the 5.9s?
@OutAboutOffroad3 жыл бұрын
The main factors for me were that Wholesale were able to supply and build the 4L80E, along with their experience with that box meaning they know all the tricks and mods, and I've heard positive feedback from other people who have used it behind a 6BT. A 47/48re/rh might have been just as good, but to be honest I never looked into them and couldn't tell you if they might have been a better choice. Here in Australia neither gearbox is sold locally. In somewhere like the US where there's plenty of mechanics who know how to build one the dodge box would probably be the obvious choice.

@@OutAboutOffroad awesome 👍🏾, servicing and parts are indispensable. Before this I only used to consider the strength of a built trans, and Power Driven Diesel make a pretty stout 47 or 48. But all the same, the important thing is you're happy with it. Thank you for the awesome content.

As a manual gearbox lover, do you know of any ideas on a manual tranny suitable for a built 6bt?
@OutAboutOffroad3 жыл бұрын
I can't say I really know, but people on the Facebook groups seem to be using the NV4500 they came with pretty successfully

How are these boxes compared to my A442F?
@OutAboutOffroad3 жыл бұрын
as a straight comparison... depends who you ask. an A442F is pretty solid, I've read that they're more solid than a 4L80E once built, but take that with a grain of salt - thats 2nd hand info taken from strangers on internet forums. The factors for me choosing the 4L80E were: I know it fits in the trans tunnel, I know I can get an adapter kit for it, it's available without me needing to source a used box to build. Your experience with it will depend on what's done to the box and what you do with it.

How much for one of these?
@OutAboutOffroad3 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, it can vary a lot depending on how you want the gearbox set up and what other equipment you want them to supply. Best to get in touch with them and request a quote.
