Nice video and thank you for taking the time to make and share this with us. Like you, I also noticed the brake fluid low but the pads and shoes still had plenty of wear on them. I was under the car cleaning off around the oil pan in the process of replacing it and it gave me a great view of the underside of the booster - and lo and behold it was leaking just like yours. Looks like this is a common issue with this generation of Toyotas as they age out - mine is an 05 Camry. Thanks again! Ordering my replacement master cylinder tonight from ye ol' Rock Auto.

It’s possible to bleed it while installed by cracking the bolts loose?
@HomeownerRepair9 ай бұрын
You can crack the bleeders on the brakes and bleed them that we. This method is just a little faster. Hope this helps you out.

So I didn’t do a bench bleed on the master when I installed it, I can’t seem to get the pedal to firm up with bleeping all the brakes. Should I go back and do a bench bleed ?
@HomeownerRepair5 ай бұрын
I am wondering if there may be some air still trapped in the brake line. Did you manage to get a firm brake pedal back?
@TD3_Archery5 ай бұрын
@@HomeownerRepairyes, so it took awhile, good 10mins or so on each tire and finally got the air out. Now the brakes feel better than they did before. Nice firm pedal.

My clutch is sticking to the floor; is it absolutely necessary to bleed the brakes just to replace the master cylinder?
@HomeownerRepair Жыл бұрын
We bench bled the master cylinder so kept bleeding the brakes to a minimum. You should bleed the brakes when you are done just to make sure there is no air the system.

I just got a rough estimate for the master and slave cylinder replacement on a 2002 Camry. He told me he would have to call around for parts, but I'm looking roughly around $600 for parts and around 3 hours of labor. Yikes!
@HomeownerRepair3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately it sounds about right.
@matthewsmith94102 жыл бұрын
Great video instruction. I did this yesterday. I found I got more room by removing the air box//filter. I also undid the hood support strut to get that out of the way. The bench bleed went as shown--no bubbles. I got it back in with very little fluid loss. Bled all four wheels and got air free, nice clean fluid through the bleeders. Sadly for me, I still have a spongy pedal. I'm stumped since the laws of physics would say there's no air in the fluid. Any ideas?

If the brake is just a little soft it may be okay. The brake pedal shouldn't be hard.
