I have one of these Dodge minivans. The wiper cowling is designed to be removable so as to allow easy access to the back of the engine. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to remove it. Replacing the rear plugs is much easier with the cowl removed.
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 7 жыл бұрын
I find it takes too much more time to remove the cowl. To me the time spend doesn't justify the ease of access. On the previous body style.....pre 2001, for sure I would try to remove the cowl. But in the end.....it's what ever makes it easy for you. Thanks for mentioning that method as well. Make sure to subscribe

Thanks. Changed my plugs and wires on my 3.8L 2007 today. Front (2-4-6) was easy. Used a vacuum cleaner to get those bits of dirt and rust at the spark plug hole openings that result when taking out the old plugs. On the back, it's a bit of work to get your hand back there but I was able to do it by feel (removal of wires, removal of plugs). To put in the new plugs I used a small mirror on a long pole and a flashlight. Solved my P0420 code. Wire for #2 was longest (slightly longer than #1). Wire for #3 was barely longer than #4 wire. Wire #6 is a few inches longer than wire #5 (very shortest of all).

I've done this before.....be very very VERY careful on the back spark plugs....for a professional it's easy to say and do, but for a beginner not seeing what you're doing and only going by touch can be tricky!.......... I found it easier to remove the windshield wiper unit.... that way you see everything that your doing!

That's exactly what I did, and if you're working on a 2002 caravan it's old and it's fairly easy to tack the windshield wipers assembly out.and then see the whole back of the engine for the first time. Gives you a chance to check everything out back there, and I still used a plexiglass mirror with magnet's on it ..way easier. Also, I've had three opinions on the firing order for my 2002 dodge caravan sport 3.3 and even the hanse manual is different than this guy.he says 1 3 5. Hanses says 3 1 5.

Great Video, thanks! Most other tutorials, videos or print online on this subject recommend removing the whole windshield wiper tray/plastic assembly first. The best way is to just reach around and do it like you said. It did help me to get a helper, so that for each plug in the back I could keep a finger on the spot at all times as I worked on it and had somebody hand me stuff.
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 9 жыл бұрын
Jason Tucker My thoughts exactly. I see no reason for removing the wiper assembly when all you need is little bit of reach around. Your working a bit blind yes....but you have a duplicate layout on the front that you can see easily so just look at the position of the plus and let your hands do the looking for you on the back side and you wont have any issues. Make sure Jason to subscribe and help spread the word by sharing these videos with others. Make sure to enjoy whats left of your weekend.

Remove the inlet air tube on the passenger side is a lot easier and faster than the wiper cowling. Opens up that side for easy access. On drivers side don’t break the brittle plastic vacuum tubing.

The hard part is when the S.P. boot won’t come off,stuck, on your blind side. Also, careful about cross threading and tightening securely without cracking your plug. Can be tricky on that blind side.

Not necessary to remove upper intake just remove rubber tube between air filter box and intake and reach passenger side of engine to get back 3 spark plugs. I did that on my 2001 Dodge Caravan 3.3 litter engine took 1 hour to charge all 6 spark plugs and spark plug wires. I use 3 inch extension, 5/8 spark plug socket and flex head rachet

me out , I changed the spark plugs and wires on my 01 Carvana and after doing that my van has a ruff vibration at ideal or coming to a stop on red. I got a mechanic to clean out the threading where the spark plugs go and it keeps doing it maybe it’s the coils ? I also need an oxygen sensor maybe that will do the trick? Question have a early 01 dodge caravan with 3.3l v6 very low mileage! And i have a 07 3.3l chrysler town and country. What inter changes? Will the motors and transmissions interchange? I see the intake on the 01 is different and the front brackets and arrangements(alt,ac,ps) would the long block out of the 3.3 2001 engine fit the 07.?

Hello, I tried to find a venue to ask a general question but couldn't. So, I am posting here to see if it will get through. I have a 2011 T&C and like many have had the issue where the HVAC controls have a mind of their own. It appears that the rear control system is the culprit, when you switch off the rear system totally and lock it out, all is fine. My question is, can you actually repair this condition with a new controller, etc? I would prefer for everything on my van to work properly...thx!

I just did the spark plug replacement on my dads '02 Chrsyler T&C...But the engine is real dirty, and I had a hard time cleaning even the front plug areas, let alone the back ones. Now that I got all the new plugs in, one is not firing properly, cause I think I keep fouling it up with dirty engine grease. Any tips on how to deal with getting the plugs in cleanly in the back side of the engine block?
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 9 жыл бұрын
best thing I recommend is trying to clean the area around the spark plug while its in with brake cleaner. try to get as much cleaned as possible. I use an old spark plug boot with the wire removed to help hold the plug, guide it in, and for starting the threads. Once cleaned, remove the plug and inspect the tip to make sure its clean and also that the gap is still correct. then reinstall and then make sure the back plug wires are routed correctly. the front are simple....the rear wires aren't in order.....so make sure to check the proper plug to the proper coil pack terminal
@sergeantgunny
@sergeantgunny 9 жыл бұрын
Thanks! This engine has seen better days...I pulled the plugs one at a time when I replaced them, and its like each cylinder told a different story. The #2 plug was burned white. #4 was burned brown, and #6 had grey sludge on it, and the electrode gap tip was bent to the side!

So if your changing the wires with the plugs you should just cut off one of the plug heads to use to unscrew the plug
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 7 жыл бұрын
I use a socket to take the spark plug loose. Cutting the boot off the old plug wire will help to reinstall the plug. Its a trick I like to use when working on these engines. The newer ones are different and the plugs are deeper so it doesnt help on them. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe

The most common causes for leaks are at the lower intake gasket and the valve cover gaskets. Theres a good chance that you might have both leaking. Best thing is to clean the engine off and then watch to see if you spot any leaks. Thanks for the question and make sure to subscribe

Are you saying the plug wires are numbered to match the circuit coil pack? Do you have a video on how to change the circuit coil pack? Please and thank you.
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 9 жыл бұрын
Robin Moore Hello Robin. The factory plug wires and coil pack has numbers on both related to the cylinder numbers. I don't have a video on the coil pack replacement. Should be 4 bolts and a connector. Its easy to replace. Make sure to subscribe
@robinstickle-lucas4608
@robinstickle-lucas4608 9 жыл бұрын
MotorCity Mechanic I will definitely be subscribing. I don't have factory plug wires. They're plugs and wires from O'Reilly's and pre-gapped. So I guess the pertinent question I should have asked is this; Does it matter which plug wire is on which connector and plug? I matched them up by length to the ones I took off. The reset the code afterward and said it's throwing a misfire code for cylinders 1,2,3 and typically means the circuit coil pack needs replaced. I want to make sure before I attempt this, that it isn't something like the wires are on incorrectly.
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 9 жыл бұрын
I does make a difference where each plug wire goes from the coil to the plug. I am currently uploading a video on the same engine in the newer body style that explains where each cylinder is and also what the numbers are on the coil. Make sure to watch it closely to see where they all need to go. Different van but same engine.
