For a 1980 VHS, the video and audio held up extrordinarily. Also I guess the end credits were condensed from 10 minutes to 3 minutes, similar to the way they were condensed for TV airings.

Wait, I was wrong. The MGM/UA Home Video logo is from 1982, not 1980. I was thinking this was the 1980 MGM/CBS Home Video release.

@@WillCWilson Yeah, I think this is a 1982 VHS. I used to have the 1987 VHS and that was a exact reprint of the 1982 tape.

This tape is one of the last 1983 tapes released, hence the HiFi mono audio on the tape. The 1983 rereleases of a lot of MGM/CBS releases just repackaged the movies, changed the logos at the beginning and end (MGM, UA, and CBS had a very acrimonious spilt, look it up.) The picture masters were supposedly changed, but 2001 is the first one where it’s evident. The Wizard Of Oz was supposedly remastered in 1983, but it sure doesn’t look like it. A HiFi mono run of the 1983 tapes happened in 1984 or 1985, but they’re very hard to find nowadays. That’s what this tape is. A HiFi stereo rerelease of 2001 occurred in 1985, to correspond with the home video release of 2010: The Year We Make Contact. (Remember that?) This tape of 2001 had the credits redesigned and The Blue Danube mutilated to fit the short runtime. On the MGM/CBS runs (1980 to either 82 or early 83), the credits were smashed in to fit a TV screen and the music just faded out as “The End” faded to black. On the original theatrical prints and the current 4K, the music correctly continues over a blank screen for several minutes. I’d date this tape at late 84-early 85. Good find either way. The tape itself sucks, but that’s not your fault.

If I remember correctly, my copy of this that is actually from 1980 doesn't have the music end exactly at "The End", but instead, continues for maybe a few seconds afterward, before end logos and previews - I have a feeling this copy was either a reprint that came in an MGM/CBS case, or this one was actually packaged in an MGM/UA case.

I hear the original tapes have credit to NASA at end of credits. Then later removed…??

You can upload the Blue Danube scene in VHS format?
