Game 3 was the last hurrah for this era of Indians baseball dating back to the opening of Jacobs Field. One last throwback offensive output in a big game.

The Indians of 1994-2001: it was a fun run, but alas all good things must come to an end. Like the Houston Oilers after 1993-94, things are going to be very different for this team in the ensuing years now that an era has ended.

Cleveland went as far as they could: Juan Gone was a one year rental, Thome had a year left, Alomar was about to decline, John Hart was leaving after this year. As it is, the Cleveland Indians as we remember them for nearly a decade are no more.

It was almost fitting that Cleveland’s golden era ended against Seattle- the Mariners played in Jacobs Field’s inaugural game in 1994 and let’s not forget the 1995 ALCS

@@thomascrowley9122 Well, to be fair, Seattle did win 93 games in both 2002 and 2003, so their golden era is not over yet. And they will have a good team in 2007 as well. But yeah, I know what you mean.

@@hmhm856 Too bad they didn't have the playoff format from today's game back then. If they would have had it back then the Mariners would have made the playoffs in 2002, 2003, 2007, and 2014 the drought would have lasted 8 years instead of 21.

Somewhat fitting that Josh Lewin called this series for FOX, for he would soon become very familiar with the Mariners once he became the voice of the Texas Rangers

Going back to the 1994 season, Cleveland has been among the AL best for a long time. It’s going to be a little jarring to see the Tribe quickly become an also-ran and empty seats the norm at soon-to-be Progressive Field

This was also the last time Cleveland wore these classic uniforms- one of my favorite baseball jerseys of that era. There would be silver lining added the next year and it would have a somewhat fittingly different look to represent the next era of CLE baseball.

@Lighthouse in the Storm Rangers were a sub500 team in the early 2000's, but they were not an easy win. That AL West from 2000-2003 was a very tough division.

Going back to 1994, Cleveland was always among the AL best (even the non playoff 2000 team won 90+ games). But with CLE’s uncertain future and their core having aged out…… now what in the AL Central?

Cleveland’s maligned pitching staff actually held up decently well: Colon was great in game 1 and most of game 4, Sabathia won his start, and Chuck Finley didn’t exactly get blown out in his two starts. But Moyer outdueled the former Angel twice

9:29 Cordova should of let that ball drop foul. Good chance they win the game and the series if he lets it drop. Instead they go on to put up four runs in the inning.

This upcoming ALDS looks like a mismatch. One, the Seattle Mariners, owners of a 116-46 clip and a 14 game margin in the AL West. The other, the Cleveland Indians, 91-71 mark, 6 game winner over the Twins in the AL Central. If the Tribe are to upset the M's, they need to neutralize Ichiro and Bret Boone, and hope their own offense and generate enough runs against the M's pitching. In Game 1 at SafeCo Field, the Indians jumped on Freddy Garcia for three 4th inning tallies. Ellis Burks collected three hits, including a home run. Bartolo Colon went 8 innings, allowed no runs while fanning 10 as the Indians stole one on the road, 5-0. Chuck Finley looked to make the most of his first postseason appearance since 1986 in Game 2. But the first four batters resulted in a walk to Ichiro, a two-run shot to Mike Cameron, a single to Boone, and another home run to Edgar Martinez. The net result: a 5-1 Mariners' win and the series tied at 1. The Jake in Cleveland in Game 3 was rocking and rolling. Vizquel, Alomar and Juan Gonzalez combined to go 11-for-21 with 12 RBIs and 5 runs scoring. Three Indians went deep as the Tribe walloped the M's, 17-2. Suddenly, the Indians were a win away from upsetting the heavily favored Mariners. When the Indians led 1-0 after 6, perhaps the Tribe was not ready to go home. But the Mariners woke up for 6 runs in the final three innings (including Edgar's 2 run shot in the 9th) to win the game, 6-2, and head west for Game 5. In Game 5, 20-game winner Jamie Moyer, on three days' rest, allowed only one run on three hits in 6 innings. Three relievers combined for three scoreless innings, and the Mariners won, 3-1, to hold off the Tribe and advance to their second straight ALCS. Ichiro went 3-for-4 with a run scored in the clincher and went 12-for-20 in the series for a .600 clip.

Such a shame that Bartolo and the bullpen let that game 4 get away. SO CLOSE. WOW. And how about that = 20-game-winner Moyer pitching on THREE-DAYS-REST!!!! WOW. Hes like a less-impressive Tom Glavine. And how about that decisive game 5 = Moyer vs Finley

Seattle avenges the 1995 ALCS loss to Cleveland with this series victory. And with this heartbreaking Division series loss to Seattle, the most successful era in Cleveland baseball has officially ended. 1994-2001. Shame they never won a title. 1997 stings, but two pennants is still impressive. In hindsight, the future, at least in terms of pitching, looks great for Cleveland with Bartolo and Sabathia leading the way, but their identify, which is their power offense, is officially over. Only Jim Thome and Ellis Burks will remain for Cleveland in 2002, and 2002 is Thomes final season in Cleveland. No more Lofton, no more Alomar, no more Juan Gon. No more Manny. No more Belle. No More Sexson. Their era is over. Also, John Hart, who has been the Indians GM since 1990, has decided to step down as the Indians GM, and he will sign with the Rangers in the offseason to be their GM. Mark Shapiro will replace John Hart as the Indians GM. Rebuilding has officially started for Cleveland.
