My parents owned Astros/safaris from the late 80's up to early 2000's. The a\c blew sooo cold that it blew mist out the vents.

it is a unibody van and does not ride on a "frame". How might I know that you might ask? I was the truck manager for 2 chevrolet dealers for over 23 years. I currently own a 2004 awd. The rough ride is caused by the front end suspension and leaf springs i the rear compared to the other minivans that ride on coils all the way around

You could probably get $3500-$4000 for it now. Heck if I needed a good Astro van that would not be a bad price for one. If you get tired of rideshare in a few weeks after purchasing the Prius you could always list it on Turo? BTW I’m renting a Turo Expedition for the first time at the end of the month to try it out. Praying he doesn’t cancel the reservation at the last minute because of a bad previous renter. Also Borla Exhaust sounds way better than Flowmaster or Rousch on a GT or CS Mustang.

Astros are great vehicles, I have two myself. However, they are not full frame, never were. They are unibody with a front sub-frame and bolted on rear suspension. If you read about them, it does mention "full ladder frame" which it does have, but it is part of the body, not separate. The 4.3 engine is a 5.7 engine minus two cylinders (the math works out). The 4L60E is a great transmission if properly maintained and treated well, but is by far not a strong transmission to hold up to much abuse. If an engine is ever done, you would just isolate the top and bottom and remove the entire front sub-frame, no different than say a Ford Windstar.
@THOMMGB6 жыл бұрын
You did a very nice job on that Astro! Looks wonderful! How did you determine that the Schrader valve was leaking? Was there some obvious damage or did you try and charge it up and it leaked when you disconnected the charging hose? And finally, how did you fix it? Thanks a lot, Tom

You’re right about the AC on those vans! My dad has owned different Astro vans for years for his painting business and the AC is awesome. I believe you’ll definitely profit on this van. Say what you want about GM, but they made great trucks with these Astros. That 4.3 was one of their most reliable, longest lasting engines right up there with the Series 2 3800. I've seen these with well over 400,000 miles on them on the original engine.
