DAEWOO was an interesting marque-it lasted about 7 years. Engines came from GM/Holden, transmissions from Aisin/Japan, everything else was sourced from the cheapest sources. The quality was actually quite good, but they lost money on every car they sold.

My 2002 Daewoo Lanos suffered engine failure in 2013. It stood on my drive until recently when I had it scrapped. I removed the car battery sometime in 2014 as I needed it for the wife's car. Sometime during the summer of 2019 I noticed the deflated airbag hanging out of the steering wheel and when I checked it I found that it had five small puncture holes in it at the front of the airbag. The drivers seat headrest had three small holes in the front of it and one slightly larger hole in the back of it with foam pushed through the hole. Since Daewoo had gone into administration in late 2002 and the warranties were taken over by Chevrolet I contacted Chevrolet to inform them of what had happened, THREE TIMES ! I was told each time that they would call me back and those calls were never returned. This airbag triggered without any power available in the car ! So much for safety in the car industry. For the record I am based in the UK.

Some car guy you are. Number one, you need a booster box with a high cranking power. Additionally, any time a car has been sitting or years, never try to run it without first draining the fuel or taking the pump out of the tank, cleaning it, and running it off a gallon of gas in a pail. You will clog the fuel system if you try starting it on stale gas. You also need to check the oil levels and make sure it hasn't turned to sludge. And also remove the head covers and verify that the valves are not rusted or seized. If so, this can ruin the valves, gouge the cylinders, or snap your shafts. The cut out was from the starter motor being seized up. Hitting it with a hammer or long pole can sometimes knock enough rust loose to free it temporarily for diagnostic purposes.
@Phannty9 жыл бұрын
It's a piece of shit. Who cares
@MrWolfSnack9 жыл бұрын
Insight Phantom It is not a piece of shit. Daewoo cars are very rare and uncommon here in the USA. I've been photographing cars for over 6 years and in all that time I've only ever seen 3. The Sport model sells for $3,500 to $5,000 on average nationwide.
@TilenCurin9 жыл бұрын
MrWolfSnack Really? I live in central eu and I just searched a local used car site. There was at least 20 of Daewoo Lanos' and none of them was over 800€. In fact, some were being sold for 100€. A friend used to own one. He sold it. Never liked it too much myself.
@MrWolfSnack9 жыл бұрын
***** There is a difference between European and American car markets.Europeans treat cars as tools and disposable, so that's the reasoning for the cheaper prices. Also the American market is very oversaturated with cars, so nobody bothered buying them in 2001, and mostly all of them went unsold and were exported. The ones that did sell and do exist here are relatively few, hence the prices. Plus the Pineapple Express movie also had an effect on them too.

+MrWolfSnack I just picked up an 01' Lanos for $300!

starter motor is bad. also looks like it has full tank, but maybe that's because the connection to the fuel pump is not done
@MrWolfSnack9 жыл бұрын
George Iulian Grigore Gas can collect condensation in the tank and over years, that condensation adds to the fuel level and waters down the fuel, making it appear to have more in it. But he wasn't using a booster box, so there was not enough electrical power to kick over the starter or engage the fuel pump. In addition to this, the starter was likely rusted from sitting so long, and needed to be whacked a couple times and oiled.
@TitanSKiZlz9 жыл бұрын
If you hit the starter it will work At least for 190e 1993

They're actually pretty damned good cars for a Daewoo. If you can image, the rest of them are even worse. Nubira. God help us all. I had a Lanos for a few weeks, just as a project. I never see Daewoos anymore where I drive (TN/KY). I remember when they were making them, 1999-2002, I was 6 to 9 years old. They were supposed to offer a good value for the money, and I saw a few. They were probably about as common as a Honda Odyssey, not the best selling vehicle in the country but there are a fair number out there. I saw quite a few Leganzas and Nubiras, not very many Lanos's though. I remember thinking that the Leganza was a nice car. By the late 2000's Daewoos had become a rare sight. I've been in a Daewoo once in my life, in Jan. 2013, and I remember thinking it was something special because by then Daewoo had become an unusual car. February 16, 2020 9:01 pm
