Did this mod to my 7.3... made engine run at 208-215... Replaced it with stock... 195... Now engine runs at 180-195 no trailer, and 203-210 w/trailer...
@paintnmotors24816 ай бұрын
Agreed! Parking lot princesses will benefit maybe from this but if your working the truck cooler is better.

I briefly switched to the 203 thermostat on my 2000 (180,000 miles) and my next 2 oil reports came back with lots of metals in the oil. I went back to the 195 and the OA (200,000 miles) came back perfect again. Be cautious of doing stuff like this if you don't need to. FoMoCo put a 195 in there for a reason.
@ianstropus2 жыл бұрын
Could of it been the hotter temps burning off excess material or residue? I’m guessing with an additional oil change the metal levels would subside?

While you're at it, get the alternative hose that doesn't go through the middle of your belt. Way better design when you're on the side just trying to put on a new belt.... (It's why there's that hose shaped support under the alternator)

Hi I did mine with the same kit about 3 weeks ago here in Canada. I had a fairly big leak with the old pressed steel housing and had read about the higher temp thermostat to. I'm going to say anybody that does this should put a small amount of silicone gasket sealer on the flange . I had a very small leak after fitting the kit. It turns out my rebuilt water pump flange is not quite right with the new top fitted. I work as a mechanic and usually add sealant with gaskets in some applications to be sure. This one I didn't as it has the rubber ring seal and it bit me draining it and doing it again, I'm glad it was my truck not a customers. All I've noticed so far was today when it rained and the widows steamed up, the heater/ defrost is way hotter and faster working than it used to be which will be nice when we hit -30oc during the winter and really need it.. The other thing you will really love with your truck is changing a fan belt if it ever fails L.O.L . you have to drain coolant and remove that hose as it goes through the belt the way it's routed. It basically means you can't change it with just a wrench/new belt in a store parking lot or on the side of the road during a break down with belt failure. There is a longer updated hose that comes round the back of that belt and sits in that half moon shaped bracket under the alternator mounting bracket. My truck has it and it makes the belt change easy I still have an old belt and carry my tool box in the truck, as I use it for service work so I can change it if something happens while I'm out. Thanks for the time making the video, Take care.

I agree I almost bought other hose on amazon but some reviews said it fit badly
@super69545 жыл бұрын
@@FixItNick When I replaced my update hose for a new one as a precaution while the system was drained. I got a good brand Gates hose from the local parts store, it was cheaper than I could by it online . Thats an achievement being in Canada where we get ripped off badly on lots of things compared to the USA. To be honest for $25 Canadian I was surprised it was a Gates brand hose. All I would say is if i fit a new degas bottle while it's drained low, i would maybe cut a quarter to half inch of rubber off where it fits on the stat housing.The hose is tight against the left bottom edge of the alternator bracket before the semi circle support. My old one had a small mark in the same place it was over 10 years old and hadn't rubbed through I'd just do it as a precaution now, you probably know how luck runs sometimes . I don't pay attention to reviews unless there is like 70 out of 100 bad ones ,there are a lot of guys aren't mechanics fixing stuff. they whine about something they don't really understand or research thats not a big problem to anybody else in the trades.

What’s SCA,s???
@RedHaloManiac952 жыл бұрын
@@DogDaze66 good ol purple stuff you pour into the coolant. High cylinders pressure in diesels causes bubbles to ford along the cylinder wall in the coolant and then they explode leading to cavitation. SCAs will coat the cylinder walls (in the coolant channels) and prevent the cylinder walls from being cavitatated.
@orcoastgreenman Жыл бұрын
@@DogDaze66- SCA = supplemental coolant additive, required for green coolant, sold by ford as OEM product... not sure what, if any aftermarket options there may be. OEM was not too expensive at my dealer a few years ago, maybe $8 a bottle and 3 or 4 needed. Probably more now though. Not sure the SCA is needed if the synthetic coolants are used. Hopefully some knowledgeable person will answer me...

The stock is a 195 degree, generally for longevity you don't want your engine running that hot in the summer especially since that's getting pretty close to the boiling point. You need to remember when you read these Diesel sites that they're trying to get you to buy their product. If you're not gaining anything from a 203 why run your engine hotter and hurt it in the long run? Navistar designed the 1994.5-97 with a 203, they didn't design the 99+ that way.
