My dad used to have a truck just like that. 2001 f350 dually with a 7.3 automatic, extended cab with the long box and a brushgaurd. We kept it all original except for the brushgaurd and the occasional maintenance. He got It from the cremation society of Minnesota where the owner used It to pull a camper and for a daily. It pulled a lot of cars home on a 27ft hiway star trailer (custom built), I remember going with my dad many times to get cars from customers, we had loading and unloading down to a science. The whole family loved that truck, I was brought home from the hospital barely even a day old in it. The only way my parents could get me too fall asleep as a baby was to bring me for a ride in the truck, the vibrations knocked me out right away. We had even taken a trip to south Dakota pulling an old heavy camper, stopping at many places along the way including Custer state park, wall drug, and the pioneer auto museum. That truck was part of the family. When we moved from the country into town we used a 40 ft enclosed trailer and loaded all our things into it at once, the only truck we had to pull it was the dually(as we called it) and it pulled it well. After we moved into town though my dad stopped doing so much mechanic work for people (he was a diesel tech for 20 years and he did a lot of normal mechanicing too, he has bad arthritis in his hands) and stopped using the truck as much as he used to. It sat in the driveway for a year and a half, we used it occasionally and started it often, but it was not good for it to sit. We decided to sell it, after a good while a buyer came along that we knew would love the truck as much as we did, it was his dream truck. He bought the truck around the start of 2018 and we even drove it to his home that was pretty far away (we had a special occasion near there anyway). He was at work but his wife was home when we delivered the truck, she later contacted us about how he had been sleeping in it for a week. We knew it was at a good home. About 3 weeks ago my dad asked him through Facebook how he was liking the truck, he was then informed that about two months after we sold it the truck had been totaled in a bad wreck. someone had decided to do a slow u turn on a highway with people behind them, and our old truck couldn't stop fast enough not to hit the turning vehicle, the man swerved and hit the car at 65 mph. Nobody was hurt that I know of but the vehicles were both totaled, the dually looked repairable because the brushgaurd had taken most the hit but it was actually really messed up. The frame moved on impact and totaled the truck. I have not seen any pictures of the other vehicle but I'm guessing it didn't look much like a car anymore. Losing something once is hard, losing it twice is even harder. I'm 12 now and It is still hard to think about. All the good times we had. We did purchase a 1972 f100 that is all original, even the 2 tone green. We are the 3rd owners of it, the first was a beet farm in ND where they used it and took great care of it. We bought it because the family wanted a truck that we could bring to car shows and also fit in the small garage. Thanks to anyone used up some of their precious time to read this.

I love that you are including your son in on these projects like letting him do little things like take the loose lugs off with his drill, just taking the little things like that to teach him and to have fun while working on a vehicle and to spend time with him doing stuff you love. I have a feeling he is going to turn into a smart guy. Im 14 and these little things my dad never did with me I love working on vehicle's and I taught myself through youtube videos and close friends becasue my dad was never there and it just make's me so happy to see that you include your son in these moments becasue its times like these I wish I had with my dad but he chose not to and I hope your son thanks you and cherishes these moments while he still has them. I love the videos Nick they teach me a lot please keep up the great work.

obviously your not aware of the value pre emission 7.3 diesels, especially one with a zf6. that old truck is now worth about 8 to 12 grand . a new comparable truck is around 80,000.has terrible reliability, worse fuel mileage, and are extremely expensive to repair and maintain. the ol 7.3 is rated for 500k service life from ford (international), and many get close to a million miles before needing major engine work. your lucky to get 150k out of the new diesels because of the emissions.
@gt3jacoby
@gt3jacoby 11 ай бұрын
@@fordpintoif you use your truck like a truck and not a daily commuter then emissions work as they should. The place I used to work had about 30 4th and 5th gens in the 400-700k range. Most of the trucks only had routine maintenance but they actually worked for a living.

So many see the finished product yet not realize the time, energy, focus and dedication it took to make the product viable. Really liked following you on the rebuild and seeing the attention to detail and problem solving you applied. Along with seeing you and your son bonding, those moments are priceless and last a life time. Your tool usage was amazing and I especially liked your "steel toed " flip flops! Well done Nic and quite inspiring for any DIY thinking a project would be to much for them.

This is super awesome. When I worked construction I drove a 2001-2003 (I'm not sure) F250 with the 7.3 engine extended cab my boss let me borrow. It had 475,000 miles on it and we hauled 4 of the crew across the country a few times in it to out of state work locations. My boss has a newer F350 non-dually with the 6.7 dual turbo and he didn't like to wait for us so we pretty much drove around 500 miles a day at 75-90 mph all day. Everything inside was in good shape including a functioning AC, but the outside looked like Sanford and Sons truck. Anyway, you're channel is inspiring. I'm in love with that 7.3 engine and hope to score either a 250 or 350 in the near future.

It takes at least 10 years of hands on teaching to reach the proficiency of this journey man auto mechanic. Hats off to all the KZbin mechanics that make complicated look simple, and let me tell you that what you watched today is an artist at work.

am I the only one totally grossed out at the crap he had to clean out of it?? who the hell lets their car/truck get even anywhere near that?, I kept a small garbage can in my truck, if anything was left in it (floors, seats, dashboard) they were made to clean my truck...road trips were an exception untill we stopped and dumped the garbage..., they should've paid you for cleaning it out or at least given you a discount, that was just nasty...glad to see your soon helping you....next on the truck...glass pack muffler system LOL and a semi horn...I'd love to see the look on peoples faces when you honked if you did that...my truck had a glass pack muffle and when I'd start it up when I got ready for work and revved it up, it set off everybodies alarm, sadly I had to let her go, I downgraded to a smaller truck as I moved and to keep that truck was costing me almost $400 a month insurance 2000 dodge ram quad cab duelly.. 4x4 I miss that truck, great job on that truck, may it last forever for ya...
