I was fortunate to have read Neil Postman’s books, particularly “Amusing Ourselves to Death”, before I had my now 26-year-old child. I acted according regarding television watching. There was pushback, of course, but the payoff was when, as an adult, she told me I did the right thing. Neil Postman has had a profound influence on my life and I am eternally grateful to him.

“Those curious entertainments that daily provide the young with vivid images of adult failure and even madness”….Brilliant description of the news, wow.

Heartbreaking facts about the future, wish we had more Niel Postmans than Bill Gates churned out of our education system 😞 To all who are interested, please look up Gurukula system and the concept of Guru Dakshina.

What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism. Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance. Orwell feared we would become a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture.
