Eric OBrien I have Honda Accord 2005 2.4 .. the revs won't above 4500 rpm making kind of sneezing sound! Could it be alternator problem?

Could be disconnect the alternator and then try to start it and driving around just driving around the block just so you make sure you don't run the battery out and then the car will shut off let me know how it goes

***** First, take off the plug on air intake valve ..sensor, usually on the pipe .. Usually, this sensor is the culprit with mud / dust esp after driving through rain, slush.. parking the car for a while. When you remove the plug the rev should become constant, don't worry if it is high. Spray some WD-40 .. let the dirt drip off, wipe dry with lint free.. & plug it in. You can even replace it.. it's cheap. If the variation persists clean up the valve which isn't tough, you can do it after watching videos.. don't think it will persist after the plug part is done.. check for leakage on the pipe if it is old. The heat & cold take a toll on it... resulting in small cracks.

For anybody reading this post and having the same problem it could be a number of things first is check your oil if you have low oil and there's no oil pressure than your Vtec sensor will not work in the car will not go over 3000 RPMs as a safety feature to stop you from destroying your motor and from there it could be all of the other things alternator camshaft sensor VTEC oil pressure sensor regular oil pressure sensor try the first thing first though it's as simple as putting a couple courts in your car and getting the oil pressure back up

Mine was doing the same thing, it turned out to be the ALTERNATOR! It had bad diodes, was producing voltage spikes and causing wrong error codes. Found a forum post describing it. If you remove the 4-pin connector from the back of the alternator, clear the code and drive around a little bit (not too long or you could drain the battery) and the code DOES NOT return then that is your problem. Hope this helps someone!

Don't just assume it's the alternator because I had the same problem then went and changed my alternator and no fix. my code was p1382 but was the camshaft position sensor or also called cylinder position sensor located inside the distributor. before you change the alternator make sure to get that sensor checked for dirt or any ware.

@@truebreed89 my bad everyone didn’t realize I got asked so many questions and for me the problem was never fixed until after the sensor replacement but this was after replacing my alternator. I really think both need to be replaced at the same time, I’ve heard of alternators passing voltage at your local shop but their machines aren’t good enough to detect if there are any damaged diodes inside. Probably about a month after I replaced the sensor the alternator I ran with the old sensor failed on me and had to get a replacement, not sure if the faulty sensor caused damage to it but after the new sensor and alternator that engine made it to 400k. Hope this helps.

Okay I was having the same problem. only mine would do it sometimes. About half the time I would get in it. one thing I noticed was my cruise control wouldn't work when it was acting up. So I took your advice and unplugged the alternator. It ran great. But before I do I am going to test is a few more times to make sure. Replacing parts is not cheap now a days but thank you for making this video.

Mine do the same thing and I already changed a lot things on it alternator coils spark plugs camshaft sensor battery throttle so just because changing the alternator in your case fixed that don t mean it have to be the alternator mine still doing the same even a changed fuel pump I don't know what's else it can be some people say it can be the timing or the computer

Same issue. P1381 so I replaced TDC sensor & set timing.It ran worse than before and would stall sometimes. P1361 came up. Changed the distributor,alternator, plugs & wires. P1381 came back and limp mode never stopped. It doesn't stall but the Batt light and doors ajar picture light every now & then up as if alternator bad. Alternator is new and i've had no issues with batt loss or problems starting after a year.

Had the same problem with my 2000 Accord for 3 years and didn’t know what the problem was. It would be interment though, but lately was doing that constantly. I replaced a lot of sensors and distributor box with coils, sparks with wires and no solution. Finally I saw this video post and read the comments, and changed my alternator. Bam, it fixed my problem! The car stopped making that extra whiny noise too. Thank you for posting this video, it helped me fix my problem with my car.

one more thought, what you can do is remove your alternator and go place like auto zone or advance auto parts store and just test it. But you have to remove it off your vehicle and bring the actual alternator so they can test it. Its way cheaper then guessing and buying new parts. Hope this helps

Having this same problem with my 1996 Honda Accord EX. I replaced the TDC Sensor, got a new timing all because someone loosened my Crank Shaft Pulley bolt at a mechanic shop. everything is good but my car is stuck in Limp Mode. I get P1361 as my code.

2001 2.3 vtec is stoping at 5000 rpm From past vtec experience it is carbon blockage under the EGR ,Honda makes a tool for this ,car is new to me and I am going to clean out the passage under the ERG. The prelude would not go into vtec mode untill it was cleared ,hope for the same.

I recently did a compression test. It started doing this after I did the compression test. Wasn't a problem before. I think multiple codes can put your Honda in "limp mode". The computer is essentially say, "something isn't right, gonna stay low rpm to ensure nothing breaks further" so to speak. Anyway. Many things can cause this. Not just the alternator. Don't assume alternator will fix your problem. I would first clean all MAF sensors and throttle positioning ect.

At idle for some reason I can't get my Honda Accord EX-L engine to go over 5,000 rpm's, I think this may be a safety limiter at idle. When I try to go pass 5000 RPMs it won't and the engine starts to shake. Gonna try to red line it later on the road to verify. Otherwise I heard it's a crankshaft sensor issue. But I think possibly it could be an internal sensor sensing misfires at high rpm's and not allowing the engine to go any higher for safety. It also could simply be I need to clean my air filter. If the engines not getting enough quality air, it might produce this issue.

@@ethangranger3486 yes, it ended up being corrosion all inside my camshaft position sensor connector & crankshaft position sensor connector. I thought I needed to replace the sensors until I checked inside the connectors and found my problem. Connectors are a lot cheaper and very easy to install. Car has been running amazing since @ 250k miles if there is no corrosion I would still opt to buy electrical component cleaner and spray the inside of connector and sensor, let it dry and see if it works.sometimes a connector can be bad without signs so buy the connector replace them and If that doesn’t fix it replace your sensors.

My 1991 Honda accord is doing this and is NOT a VTEC engine, pulled the alternator (which is only a year old) had it tested it tested fine. Suspect the MAP's sensor because the low idle changed from 800 to 1300 when the problem started. Any suggestions?

For all of the Alternator comments: The alternator is part of the charging system. It absolutely has nothing to do with his performance issue in this video shown. Check the oil level, and if its low then try filling it up and try again

Just to help people out. In most vehicles this statement would be true. However with most Honda’s and a few other Japanese vehicles this is simply not the case. Honda alternators have diodes that can fail but still allow the charging circuit to work. However it feeds disruptive signals back into the ignition system giving you symptoms like a failing rectifier (located inside the distributor). But it’s actually the bad diodes in the alternator. If your car is like the one in the video a simple test is to unplug your alternator and give it a chick hard drive that would normally produce the misfiring condition. If this time the vehicle never misfires then you’ve icelated the problem. And need to replace the alternator; not because it’s not charging but because it’s diodes have failed. By the I ran a Honda, Nissan and Toyota repair shop for yes and we saw this fairly often. Cheers

When mounting a turbo kit, and relocation of the oil filter, 750cc injectors, fuel pump 255 liters / min, intercooler, ECU P28 shipped and basemap, ... the engine cuts off at 3500 rpm to resume at 2000 rpm. No possibility of going up in the rpm. Do you have an idea?

I replaced the alternator and it fixed the problem,,,,,try disconnecting the alternator and start it and then drive it around the block if that gets rid of the problem replacing the alternator will most likely fix the problem

I have a 2001 Honda Accord EX also and I'm having the same exact problem I got the code P1381 and it wont rev past 3000 rpm's either, but I found something online that said that if the alternator is not working properly that it could cause a P1381 code......Diagnostic procedure to finding out what the problem according to what I read online said to check the connections at the Distributor and PCM make sure connections are tight and secure then clear or erase check engine light then disconnect the 4-pin harness connector on the back side of the alternator then test drive the car if the check engine light comes back on the CYP(Cylinder Position Sensor) inside the distributor is malfunctioning so the Distributor needs to be replaced...........now if the check engine light does not come back on then the alternator was causing the P1381 code so the alternator should be replaced...I haven't tried this diagnostic procedure myself yet but I plan on doing it today and if it fixes the problem I will be sure to let u know.

I just replaced my distributor rotor distributor cap distributor wires replaced spark plugs rebuilt fuel pump brand new alternator and brand new Main Fuse in my 99' Accord, just started not being able to accelerate past 3k RPM. could it the the VTech Cilynoid ? Or internally with a bearing ? I've watched many vids there are so many possibilities of these issues..

Believe it or not, the crankshaft sensor can & will trigger the P1381 CODE so check your CRANKSHAFT SENSOR

Easiest way to tell is take wires off alternator and test drive. If it drive good change alt.

can anyone suggest anything for my honda accord 2002 v4 ,It's giving off the codes p1381, p1259 it won't go over 300 rpm , we thought we got the problem fixed when we replaced solenoid something ( sorry not to familiar with these things) 1 month later the problem returned & it's doing the same thing

Same issue. P1381 so I replaced TDC sensor & set timing. It ran worse than before and would stall sometimes. P1361 came up. Changed the battery,distributor,alternator, plugs & wires. P1381 came back and limp mode never stopped. It doesn't stall but the Batt light and doors ajar picture light every now & then up as if alternator bad. Alternator is new though. Still haven't figured it out after 13k miles

I replaced the alternator and it fixed the problem,,,,,try disconnecting the alternator and start it and then drive it around the block if that gets rid of the problem replacing the alternator will most likely fix the problem

Elias Fraire alternator replacement ws my issue......test it by.....unplugging alternator and take it for a short drive if it fixes your problem replace alternator

02 accord 2.3 vtec automatic. If I press throttle to quickly gain speed (merging on highway for example) the rpm guage revs and bounces at 4k rpm. If I let off and slowly increase speed, it accelerates past 4k without issue. Any insight?

Distributor doesn’t help either I just changed mine
